mini beast Project: Stock To Beast!!!
BLHTAZ replied to MiNi Beast's topic in MJ Hardcore Tech: Epic Journeys to Greatness
Fixed that for ya... ;) Sorry to see the destruction, but glad you are OK. -
Our frige has been making a clunking noise every time the compressor shuts off for about 3-4 months now. It has slowly been getting louder over time. I finally had time to pull it out and take the back off so I could get a look as I was thinking that maybe one (or more) of the mounting bolts had come loose, but they are all good & tight and the bushings are in good shape. I grabbed the compressor and gave it a little shake to find that there is something inside banging around when I wiggle it. The frige is working fine, but for how long...?? :dunno: I can't imagine any other response than ... "time for a new frige" , but who knows? This one is about 10+/- years old now. If it makes any difference to anyone...it's a Whirlpool 21 cu. ft.. ;)

That is a good price too. I got lucky and found a guy locally here with one that was nearly new that he needed to sell when mine went bad.

Well....you got black flares, which is what you wanted...right? The only problem is that you wanted them the natural unpainted black as I read it. I personally don't see the painted black as a big deal, but if it bothers you then do as suggested and get some stripper and clean them up ;) .

Help identifying something.

Recalls & warranties are only honored as long as the parts are available. While there are still a few parts still out there for these ABS systems, many of them have been discontinued and are gone so there is no way that a lot of the issues can be fixed any longer. I have come across two in the last year that I could not get what was needed for the repairs. The owners are left with the choice of removing the system or trashing the vehicle unfortunately. -
Wish it was closer to me... :chillin:

8) That is cool. It's the look we have talked about going with on ours, but it's in such good shape that I just can't bring myself to do much more than I have to it. It was real hard for me to even cut the bottom of the fenders for the custom front bumper. Nice find though... :D

Looking good. I like that overhead console in it and I have thought about doing that in mine.

If you are very careful and smart about the use of the skinny pedal, you "should" be OK, but there is just no telling with the D35. As I said...I have seend them break when someone was simply accelerating from a traffic light.

My two axle trailer weighs 1600. With our YJ on it, my V-8 Ram truck does "OK" pulling it, but there is NO WAY that an MJ can handle that kind of weight.

Yeah, the discharge hose is a common problem because it runs right against the battery. Mine exploded on me too. I had to replace the condenser along with the hose because the hose stripped the threads off of the condenser when I removed it...and yes, you need to repalce the drier at the same time.

Anyone using Royal Purple diff oil?
BLHTAZ replied to JohnQ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
That is correct. I use AMSOIL, not RP, but AMSOIL doesn't require the modifier either. -
What do you think it will take....
BLHTAZ replied to LJRockstar's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
In most places...if the damage is not your fault, they can not total it if you don't agree to it. Knowing what I do from a similar situation and similar damage to our MJ by a 15 year old on his learners permit, that is probably $2500 + worth of damage. Ours was close, but not quite as bad as yours and the other folks insurance fixed it  . Get advice & research your local insurance laws/regulations. -
I like option #1 personally

The "Might Joe" build... -Full Console 1/25/09-
BLHTAZ replied to BLHTAZ's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
They are 31x10.50's. The tires make more noise inside than the exhaust...especially at 65 MPH :brows: -
Yes...they really are that bad. I have seen many of them break when someone has been taking off from a stop light. Putting a locker in them GREATLY increases the risk of breaking them. I am one of the insane crowd that used the "Super 35" kit with the Detroit locker. I have not had an issue with it yet and have taken it on many rock crawling trips with the 33 & 35" tires, but I would never recommend anyone spend that kind of money on a D35  I could have had a D60 for what I have in that D35 now.

Performance upgrades & improved MPG are not synonymous. Some performance upgrades can help with MPG, but it's not likely. There are cold air intakes made for the 4.0L, but finding one for the Renix can be a little tough.

I don't know about the hood louvers, but the t-body spacer is not worth the money.

Tires. Yes. A tire thread.
BLHTAZ replied to DirtyComanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
You are one of a very small crowd. When I worked for 4 Wheel Parts, the Claw was the most hated and returned tire of anything we sold. We had people threaten to sue the company if we did not take them back and replace them with a "decent" tire. Why? I'm curious what their complaints were. Too noisy? Bias or radials? I can just picture some idiot with a nose bleed Super Duty complaining about how his 49" bias Baja Claws bounce around for the first five miles every morning and grab every crack in the road. :rotf: Willy They were primarily Wrangler owners. We always did our best to keep the guys with big trucks away from them to start with. The tires do not wear good, they ride very badly on the road, they don't get traction in the mud, they don't grip rocks well, etc, etc... were the things I heard constantly. As far as I know they were all radials. The biggest & most common complaints were the bad ride and short tread life. Personally, I run the ProComp Xterrains on our YJ. They are very noisy on the road, but it doesn't get driven hwy at all and very little short trips in town. The Xterrains are great on the rocks, which is what we bought them for, but they are not real good in mud and we hate mud so that doesn't matter ;) -
Interesting... Don't have time to play right now, but Iwlil check it out more later. The music will drive you crazy if you don't turn it off...

When I lived in PA, my mother always grew it too. I hated it (and still do), but they used to sit and eat it raw. They had a bowl of salt to dip it in...never heard of using sugar.

If you have the ability or access to the factility, you could cut and sleeve your stock links for now and then get the disco's when you can.

I run ProComp ES9000's on both of our Jeeps and my 2002 Dodge Ram. My second place choice would be Bilstein. If I had the cash to blow on a great shock, it would be Edelbrock, but at $150+ each...they are a little out of the budget right now. ;) I used the OME's on out YJ at one point. They lasted about 18 months and they were leaking and useless so I would never recommend them to anyone.

purple finders custom purple bumper
BLHTAZ replied to project88mj's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I congratulate you on your inginuity in customizing your rig. I wish I had the facilities to build my own stuff. I agree that the rear bumper leaves some to be desired as far as strength and design, but hey...you did it yourself and will learn from it. The color would not be my choice either, but it's not my truck and if you like it...that's what matters  .
