WOW! We don't paint outside in Oregon in that kind of weather. You must have put a lot of kicker in it to speed up the drying or you were standing around for a few days :D

I'd run a compression test myself. It very easy to do & compression guages are easy to buy or borrow. I had the same pronblem, oil blowing up & over the tailgate & lots of oil in air cleaner. Mechanic said same, need ring job. Being the skeptic I'am, I checked compression. It was very close to where it suppose to be on all cyl. So I replaced the rear main, pulled the valve cover & cleaned all the gunk out, put on new vac lines, put in fresh oil, and got lucky. I haven't leaked any oil & only added 1/2 qt in about 3k miles. However, if a comp test shows bad rings, etc., the mech GUESS may be right.

My 89 reads 3022 miles & you can add that to the 140k on the old speedo on the shelf. Actual mileage will never be known.

what is it and do I need it for the conversion
deziped replied to JeepDew's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yes-um, my 89 XJ cruise control looked like that with the same centering & sensetivity adjustment on it. Box on right is TCU unit. -
Yes you can. And your low beams will go off when you switch to highs as you intend.. But as previously advised go through a relay.

This color (needs a bath) is cinnabar. It was more bronze looking before it was clear coated. I suggest you go by an auto paint store & look through their paint catalogs. You might find sum-thun totally unique & diff you like that will make your MJ stand out in the crowd. Now if I can find some striping tape I'm gonna try & perk this one up a bit. Good luck on yoursImage Not Found[/img]

SWB topper or camper shell
deziped replied to rubiconron's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
This Brahma topper is of a late 80 early 90 Mazda. Not a perfect fit but works fine.Image Not Found[/img] -
Yeah it was a great christmas this year. Nice prime rib dinner, all the kids, & lot of G kids home from across the country. Hope everyone else had a great day as well.

If your between 16-17 Oregon will give you a provisional license with restrictions. Like during 1st 6 months you can't have anybody in the vehicle under 20 if their not immediate family. For 2nd 6 you can't carrry more than 3 pass under 20 who are not the same as fore mentioned. For 1st year you can't be on the road between midnight & 5AM, there are a couple exceptions. This was instituted after the state took a look at how many newly licensed drivers, and their ride alongs, were being killed. It's not a bad idea.

Hmmmm. Speeding(14 over) & hauling your buddy (you know what the law say about that in Oregon) . Sorry, but it appears it will be a while before your legally back on the road. I wonder what other part of drivers ed (if you had it) you didn't comprehend. `I all so was a slow learner myself, and paid the price.

This is my 5 yr old Rodesian Ridgeback, Zanzibar. He had a cancerous tumor about the sixe of a small tangerine removed from his LR hip 9 months ago. Unfortunatly they didn't get it all and more lumps are popping up here and there on his body. We've decided to let him go until he shows signs that its getting the best of him then we'll put him down. You seldom win with the big C. Gonna be tuf to do it. Image Not FoundImage Not Found[/img]

Hey IFIXIT8. My wife bought one of those Ply T's (79 I think) brand new. 1st weekend she had it we went to Oregon coast & it rained like hell. Footwells all filled with with water as the factory didnt get the seal around the windshield proper. She took it back with the water still in it & got her money back.

Gas smell - but no gas leaking! Any suggestions
deziped replied to robfg67's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Check with the engine running. My leak never showed any dripping or puddling unless the fuel rail was under pressure. An 89 I believe will only be under enuf pressure when actually running to make it leak. Take a hold of the injectors and wiggle them around. Might want to have a fire ext handy when checking them -
Been smelling gas odor in my 89 4L for awhile. Last night ran to store & on way back odor got extremely strong. Got home & popped the hood & gas was blowing out of 1 & 2 in a stream. So much couldn't tell if it was the seals or bad bodies. I went to NAPA & picked up (8) MPF3-12085 (brown & NAPA brand) & (4) CRB2-15004 (black & Standard Brand). Had to mix & match as thats all they had. Anyhow, put them in this afternoon in about a hour & half & leak & odor gone. All 6 rail seals were perfectly flat on outer edges and had leaked some previously it appears.

Anyone every find a Comanche with a T-4 or T-5 in it?
deziped replied to Pete M's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
My old 88 MJ, now my daughters, has a 2.5 with the OEM T4 & 231. That thing didn't have enuf HP/Torque to do any harm to the tranny. It was great on the flats but showed its short coming on any slight hill. I drove it WOT to get the best out of it. So does she. :brows: -
My first owned was a 41 Ford Club Cp at 16. Followed by as best i can recall 37-40 other cars & trucks over the years. VW's, 240Z, RX7's, v8 LUV, etc. My favorite this 56 Special. Put thous o miles on it in Europe from Denmark to Italy & places in between. A real autobahn cruiser in its time.

For about $70 using a tape, pencil, makita cutoff & buzz box I made this bumper & receiver hitch below. I made these out of 1/4" plate & bolted them to existing frame holes Image Not Found Then welded this 1/4 tube to the brkts Image Not Found Then the receiver to the bumper for same GWR as a Draw Tite hitch & don't have to worry about departure angles off-roading. I,ve been running a pair of 100W off the OEM fog light circuit for a couple years & no problems. Some states no like hi's & fog on at same time like in Oregon. Oh, & make sure you don't flash them at the wrong on coming brights. I did & got ticketed, & smoky was at least three cars & a 1/4 mile down the road but he wrote it  anyways.

89 MJ's are charged from alternator to PDC to battery. Not directly from alt. to battery. Thats why you can remove your battery from the circuit and MJ will continue to run w/out battery voltage. Also why sometimes if the fuseable link in the alt to PDC line goes bad you think your alt is shot when its not. Use a multi-meter to see if any voltage is coming out of bat post on rear of alt.. It's easy to get to. My alt died on me yesterday & it was only putting out 0.15 V. Put in Remanf 100A alt & I now have 14.5V across battery w all access & ligts on. :chillin:
