Brought home the new Jeep addition on Saturday. Except for all the rain we had to drive home in :ack: it was a nice drive and the Ranger pulled it better then I expected, and got much better fuel mileage to  Outside is not as bad as I thought. Inside will take some work, needs some major floor repair. The PO sure was lucky it did not burn to the ground. Was happy to look under it and find a Chrysler axle and not a D35. Do not know much about the Chrysler axle then it looks a LOT bigger then the D35. What are the Pros & cons on it?

Advice on a Welder
CEThomas replied to JeeperjohnfromPA's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Watch e-bay. I got a Clarke 180 220V mig for around $325 shipped in the spring. -
Kind of like like on day I was helping someone on his second plane and just as I pulled up I asked him how it balanced and he gave me that look  The first plane was set up by someone else and they never told him about CG :headpop: I could not set for a long time :D At lest in the real thing I have better luck then some of the RC problems:rock on: Would like to get a ultralight sometime, but the 172 will always be my first love
-
Thanks, I know heavy springs do not take care of everything. I also know where the balance point on my ranger super cab is located and all about weight aft of CG. Of anything I have ever had this super cab his the most forward CG I have ever seen  My goal is not to move the CG aft and move the weight advantage off the front brakes but get enough weight on the rear axle to hold it to the ground. Not sure if you have ever flowen a plane but if you have you know how things get when you move the CG back to much :D Charles

Thanks, Eagle I will set it over the axle. I have heavy springs in the Ranger and even with the 4.0 behind the axle I do not get a lot of drop on the Ranger. Up to December when I sold them I had a trailer and 2500 GMC. I took that with my tractor at 14,000# to my place in Tellico down in TN more then I care to think. Not counting all the grain wagons I have towed. Now tow 3 grain wagons full and get one wipping and then you know you have towed something :D Charles

I am going to drop the 4.0 in the bed behind the axle to give the Ranger more grip.

Yes, from u-haul :chillin: In this area everyone is a u-haul rep. you can just drive down the road are they run them out of the front yard. The ones that are not u-haul are not open on weekends
-
Well I may have a dolly, If the guy brings it back on time Saturday :chillin:
-
Yes, u-haul is a PITA. I have to pick-up the dolly with the tow vehicle and advise them that I am getting a Geo Metro :D to get off the lot. Going to pull the DS flat or dolly tow ;) Yes have to get some lights set up, it's all flat ground and 50% of it is 2 lane back roads. Should know something today if they can find a dolly for me.
-
How many cat's do you need? I offer free cats to anyone that comes to my garage :D U-hall wants a full size truck or van used for the car hauler. Going to drop the 4.0 in the back of the Ranger for weight on the rear axle. And the way I am going is all flat land
-
Good ideal, First call I made was to U-haul and was told good luck in finding one, college kids heading home and none to be had
-
Well the cats out of the bag ;) This weekend we get another Jeep to add to the family, something for my daughter to drive in the winter and (MY) wheeling rig :D It's a 92 XJ with a blown engine :chillin: It's located about 3.5 hrs away and I am having trouble finding a tow dolly. I was wondering how it would be to flat tow and is the factory bumper stout enough to handle flat towing if I can not find a tow dolly by the weekend.

I took out 3 deer with my Capri and the Ins. co gave me a $3,200 check to get it fixed. I got $60 in parts and done some body work and went on a shopping trip for the shop. 2 weeks later I had a lift, big compresser, high-lift trans jack and a few other items :D Charles

I have been to a JY and came home w/o anything  But this is what it looks like when you go to see Wildman's :D

Trans power / comfort switch ????
CEThomas replied to CEThomas's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Thanks, The engine, engine wiring and trans in the MJ are out of a 91, inside wiring and trans computer from a 93 XJ. Project X is a 92 XJ. Charles -
Brake porpotioning valve...
CEThomas replied to DirtyComanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
512tr You have to tell me more about that engine, I love it :D Charles -
I thought all aw-4's came with the trans power / comfort switch and that you needed to have it :???: The XJ that we got the dash / wiring harness did not have it, and Project X also is not equiped with one. So once again why am I running around looking for one
-
I would have my balls removed b4 I would have a S-10. That was the longest 24 months I ever had till I could give it back :chillin:
-
Yes top dead center and about 500w pushing through it and talk about 30 miles down the road ;)
-
I got a watch, not the type most you have had. You had to wind it each day to keep it going :chillin:
-
Going to mount our CB & amp between the bucket seats on the back wall do to the size. Antenna will be a 6" wipe on the side of the bed.
-
Price was right on what I got :D But yes I am looking for a parts XJ now
-
Yes I did look at the harness when I got it, it was on the skid with the engine and trans, could not fit the rest of the XJ on the skid :D The P/S pump you see is the old 2.5 pump that got bolted on the 4.0. No it's not leaking, just took the P/S tank off and got fluid everywhere ;)

89 to 91 wiring difference???
CEThomas replied to CEThomas's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Thanks, Kind of thought that was the deal. I did not get the inside wireing harness when I got the engine and engine harness:headpop: Kind of screwed now as most local JY around here price the harness so high so that do not have to mess with it  -
Pluged the under hood wiring harness into the balkhead plug on the 89 inside harness in hopes that we would not have to pull the inside harness and replace it. Well nothing works and have no power inside the cab, not even the lights or radio  So I take it must be a different pin layout. Anyway around it or will I have to pull the harness
