  1. and its an edelbrock intake on a 2.8 so any performance i can get is welcomed
  2. well i have the front clip off for a motor/tranny swap. but I'm considering doing a 97+ conversion and since i would have to swap fenders, and the flares are different what should i do for flares for the rear? i was looking at doing a flatfender knockoff kit. but if anyone has better ideas I'm all ears. i like the look of pre 97 flares they just look better.
  3. the wheels and tires are off for some reason thats what it is. i think the wheels were photoshopped smaller to make the tires look bigger
  4. so the intake i ordered for my mj says that if used on jeep cherokee (comanche) that hood shims will be required. I'm not going to screw up the look of my truck by boosting the back of my hood 2 inches so i was gonna go with a cowl induction look. does anybody know where i can get a good readymade hood or a decent looking scoop i can stick on and cut out the sheet metal?
  5. so now i picked up a new motor for 150 bucks pulled the heads to find it was rebuilt have been unreasonably excited. i ordered an edelbrock performer intake, cam, and some comp cam roller rockers a lifters. now I'm ordering about 700 bucks in parts and embarking on a search for a new ax5 and ill be golden. i might get to enjoy my tube doors this summer.
  6. well ive been so busy with the truck ive had no time to update my thread. so here we go. about 3 weeks ago i was pulling a trailer going down I5 to go pick up a gokart(pics will be added) on the way there we were doing 75 and suddenly it started popping and jerking. me and my buddy look at eachother, pull over, and check everything out. the temp gauge was pegged. i checked the oil for cream. it was clean. went okay? started it and it idled like crap. went hmmmm. adjusted the timing and had my buddy give it a rev it blew black smoke then blue smoke. well i said every swear word i knew and then finished the trip. and we pick up this.
  7. this thing lives in washington? what city? after i get my motor/tranny/axle swap and 6 inch done we should meet up i want to see this thing in person! :bowdown:

I'm running a 2.8 with a 3 inch and 31s and 4.10s and it goes down the road quite nicely feels like it has a little more giddy up too (till my motor took a crap) but i digress you won't really notice the lift i was kind of mad when i spent money to essentially make the springs shinier and newer. the only downside ive experienced with 31s was in 4hi it wants to smoke the clutch. but thats what 4lo is for right?
  9. i ran into a guy in my towns general store had a 92! I said nice truck and he looked at mine and said i like yours more. i told him about the forums but have yet to see him on here though
  10. the major problem with the chevy 2.8 was that they didnt drill the oil ports for the cam big enough so they got clogged easily which caused them to smoke and knock. and for the record my truck has outlasted 4 4.0s. people say they last forever but i will stick to my 2 point suck.
  11. so my motor took a dump. so i went on the craigslist machine and found a motor with new head gaskets. went and got its 150 bucks later its sitting on the stand in the shop. as i look at my purchase i notice pink installation oil on the cam. thats weird. i get the heads off and the valves have rebuild markings on them in grease pen. never been fired. then my buddies dad points out that the cylinders are honed and i see crosshatching. the cam was used and its missing half the rocker arms and lifters. i ordered an edelbrock performer cam and intake. i also ordered some comp cam lifters and roller rockers. but for 150 bucks i got a REBUILT 2.8!!!!

  13. someone posted it and now i can find it (go figure right). i want some headers for my 2.8 and can't find the link. does somebody know where to get some?
  14. does anybody know of a aftermarket shift boot that will fit my truck? it has the short console for a bench seat. my boot is getting so old worn and tight that its limiting my second and reverse gears
  15. well my tired 2.8 took its last breathe so its time for a new one. i found a low mile one for 150 bucks on the craigslist machine. will any 2.8 bolt up? or do i have to worry about some things? its an ax5 not a frenchie trans
  16. so making a 100 mile round trip and sarge starts jerking and popping like the timing is off. i pull over and its idling like crap and the temp spiked. it cooled down and i started it again. (still on the side of the freeway with a small trailer behind me as well) i make it home and it drives okay runs smooth at anything above 2000 rpm but won't idle for crap. sounds like its on 2 cylinders. i am led to believe that its a burnt valve. i have since run some restore and lucas tune up in a bottle in it. also retimed it. does anyone know of any tricks to fix a burnt valve? i don't want to pull the heads because at that point i will just rip the 2.8 out and throw in something else.
  17. is it possible to run a ax15 on a 2.8? i was thinking of beefing up my drivetrain before a motor swap

    PARTS RIG!!!

    my buddy just told me he's getting rid of his no-titled 86 cherokee wheeler. it has 4.10 gears to match my truck, which is nice because my axle seals and bearing are fried! i pick it up friday. i forgot the best part. it's FREE!!!!!

  21. i do have to say i think i am in love with your gauges and steering wheel. something like that is exactly what I'm looking at doing for mine but something with olive drab black and white
  22. I'm using the ones from my 85 4 cylinder 5 speed base model it has the cresent brackets that put you closer to the roof but i can almost fall asleep in the things
  23. thats the first thing i broke on my truck was my d35 spider gears. went out doing burnouts and drifting with some 31s. shell do it but not for long :eek: fixed that and i have yet to have a problem

  25. pulled pretty much all of my emissions gizmos off. pulled all the vacuum lines that went with it. freed up a lot of space. then did valve cover gaskets and painted my covers lime green. then did a tune up and pulled the glass pack off so i can actually here myself go down the road.
