  1. Thanks, mvusse. I'm beginning to think that only the 1986 Comanches have the parking brake cables going in from the back and the 1987s and up have them going in from the front.
  2. All 3 of them have Dana 35 axles.
  3. I would like to know whether your parking brake cables go into the brake backing plates from the front of the truck or from the rear? I have two 1986 Comanches and the parking brake cables go into the brake backing plates from the rear of truck. I also have a 1987 Comanche and the parking brake cables go into the brake backing plates from the front of the truck. The 1986 Comanches are both longbeds of course and the 1987 is a shortbed. I am wondering if the cables go into the backing plates differently based on whether it is a longbed or shortbed? Thanks in advance for any information and help.
  4. I just went and looked in my 1986 Jeep Comanche factory parts manual and the flywheels for the 2.5L and the 2.8L look totally different from each other in the pictures. The part numbers are also different. The factory part number for the 2.5L flywheel is 89 33 002 408 and the factory part number for the 2.8L flywheel is 89 83 501 897. Hope this info helps.
  5. How in the world would they get him a clutch kit for a GM Iron Duke 2.5L if they looked the clutch kit up for his truck? The GM Iron Duke 2.5L was never used in the Cherokee or Comanche ever and was never available. The 2.5L used in the Cherokee and Comanche is an AMC 2.5L and is a totally different motor than the GM Iron Duke 2.5L.
  6. Thanks... But, I was thinking about something along the lines of RE Monotube or OME (I HATE the Yellow)... Also, so I bother with the JKS Bar Pin Eliminators now? Make the install any easier? I had them done on my TJ, but didn't do the install myself... Thanks Wade Monroe Sensatrac shocks are not yellow like the regular Monroe shocks are. They are black.
  7. Not all 2wd Comanches have the the 1 piece bearing and rotor setup. My 1986 2wd Comanche has the rotor and hub setup where the rotor just pulls off of the hub like the 4wds. My factory shop manual says that they built them both ways, So you could have either setup with a 2wd Comanche.
  8. Umm... It is a V6. He said the truck's carb was unhappy with him. Look at the quote above. The only motor used in the Comanche that had a carburetor in 1986 is the 2.8L V6. So it must have a 2.8L V6 in it if he's talking about carburetors. Also, his one video does say 2.8L V6 exhaust on it and the other one says 2.8 Comanche.
  9. They are completely different. The Comanche has 3 bulbs in each taillight while the Dakota has 2.
  10. yea i found that out. I just knew the wrangler had differences in years on stuff....and thought for some reason that 93 was the first year. guess not. thanks, I'm smarter now :D We learn something new everyday. I didn't know the Wrangler got the 4.0L in 1991 either. I thought it came along a little later in the Wrangler.
  11. yep they're the same, but 84-85 I think had a provision for a mechanical fuel pump or something along those lines. it's easy to block off. My 1986 2.5L has the provision on the passenger side of the block for a mechanical fuel pump. All the factory did was bolt a block off plate over it when they went to TBI in 1986. It is the same block as the 1984 and 1985 Cherokee 2.5L. I don't know if they ever changed the casting of the 2.5L block. If they did I don't know when. I would bet the 1987, 1988, 1989, and 1990 still have the Provision for the mechanical fuel pump on the passenger side of the block with a block off plate bolted over it from the factory. I don't know if they changed the 2.5L block in 1991 when they went from TBI to MPI or not.
  12. djag12, I sent you a PM. Thanks in advance.
  13. This dealer is telling you a line of BS. and what they are doing is illegal. I would be sure to tell them this. It is illegal by federal law to not honor or perform a repair associated with a recall. Recalls do not expire ever. If it says the recall is still open on your vehicle and the repair has not been performed, It has to be done by federal law or Jeep is asking for a lawsuit. I would contact the state attorney general of your state and tell them what is going on. They will settle it. I don't like to see people walked on like this. Hope this info helps.
  14. The rear differential is most likely a Dana 35 and it would either have 3.54 gears or 4.10 gears with that engine and transmission combination. The Front differential is a Dana 30 and it would have to have the same gears since it's 4x4 or the drivetrain would bind up. These specs are right out of the 1986 Jeep Comanche factory workshop manual. Hope this info helps.
  15. The AX-5 has an external slave cylinder. I would try bleeding the clutch system before changing anything. It might just need bled out because it has some air in the system.
  16. No, it will not. The bellhousings are completely different. what he said. if you find an ax15 from a dodge dakota, I want the bellhousing. I'd give you a 4.0 bellhousing to go with it, I'd even find you an external slave one (hint, I need an ax15 bellhousing from a dakota so I can put an ax15 behind the 3800) What do you have behind your 3800 now? An AX-5? Is the 3800 V6 a 60 degree V6? Just wondered.
  17. No, it will not. The bellhousings are completely different.
  18. I would say most likely the temp gauge is bad. Like JeepcoMJ has said some of these trucks are over 20 years old now and it wouldn't surprise me if the gauge is bad.
  19. I agree, I do not want to argue about this. It is not worth it. I am not disputing anything you have said about it coming that way to you. I am not claiming to know everything about Comanches and I am sure I have a lot more to learn. I learn something new everyday, such as this. I don't even know what 4 speed my 1986 has in it. I have never really checked into it and I would like to know now. I do know that it came from the factory with a 4 speed though. I am unsure whether it is a T-4 or an AX-4. I am guessing that it is an AX-4 by what I know, but there is no guarantee. I will have to find out though.
  20. So, Another dealer installed 4 speed?
  21. I am not doing anything. All I am doing is stating the facts and you can't face the facts. Actually, as I'm reading it, you're stating 99.9% of the facts that Jeepco already stated. All you're doing is putting them in your own words attempting to make him look bad. I've read this thread thoroughly, and have seen his truck firsthand, and can tell you that what he's stated is in fact correct. Look back on your own posts in here, and then read his more closely; notice anything? THEY'RE ALMOST IDENTICAL!! Put the pipe down, get off your high horse, get your head out of your @$$, and come back to the real world. Only then will you be treated with more respect. I apologize to those who know me and know I'm not usually like this. Can we please get back to the subject that this thread was originally meant to be about? Yeah, his posts read that I'm wrong and that his Comanche came from the factory with a 2.8L V6 and a 4 speed. My posts read that the 2.8L V6 never came from the factory with a 4 speed and that it was a 5 speed originally. That is the same as his posts isn't it? Yeah right...

  23. Who? Me? lol. yeah...the Original owner asked for it that way. the whole thing is strange. I read your post quite well. I would bet on it having 3.54 gears. There is hardly any difference between 3.54 gears and 3.55 gears. Basically the same ratio. They are so close that you can run them together on a 4WD. the ratio when I checked was 3.547 or something like that, so it would figure to 3.55 actually. I said you can't read well because you're disregarding what the PO ordered it as. anyways, BACK TO TOPIC. T4/T5 in comanches. I would still say it has 3.54 gears because that's what was available on that drivetrain and you couldn't order anything else, but that or 4.10 gears with it. Just like a 4 speed wasn't available from the factory with the 2.8L V6. There is nothing special about it. It is your base model 1986 Comanche with a 2.8L V6 and a 5 speed with 3.54 gears. I am not disregarding what you say the previous owner said he ordered it with. I am saying I think the previous owner told you a big lie. It did not come that way from the factory. Someone put the transmission in it obviously. If it came that way from the factory the VIN would say that it came with a 4 speed from the factory and it does not.
