  1. Jack up the rear of the truck and turn one of the tires, if the tire on the other side turns in the same direction then you have a posi rear end. If it turns the opposite direction you have an open differential. I hope this info helps.

  3. Grant, I sent you a private message. Thanks
  4. It plugs into this cruise control box that should be behind the knee board on the lower dash.
  5. Yep, the emissions maintenance light is set off by a timer. Here is a picture of the timer.
  6. :rotf: :shake: And for the record...not much for custom plates here, but I somehow wound up with one on each of my vehicles, and I got no problem showing them off as I like them both :D But to think you wasted my time typing those damn VIN numbers :wall: :fool: They are probably not right anyway, cause you get 5 or 6 in and all the numbers and letters start to mix together in a string of confusion, and I am still a look-at-keyboard when I type person, so there is bound to be an error in there somewhere   -James The VINs are right... I looked both of them up on AutoCheck. :rotfl2:
  7. No, I didn't misread you. I'm not arguing with anyone here either. I just wanted to see if you'd do it. Just kidding around with you man. LOL :rotfl2:
  8. If you don't think it's a big deal, then post your VIN and license plate number...
  9. Here's a page on how to diagnose the sensors and it gives the voltage specs. This page is for the 4.0L, but a lot of the sensors are the same. I hope this info helps. http://www.lunghd.com/Tech_Articles/Eng ... ostics.htm
  10. Because people can find out who you are and where you live.
  11. The front axle has not been swapped out like everyone who are misinformed are telling you. The 1986 Comanche 2wd could have either the 1 piece rotor and hub setup or the 2 piece rotor and hub setup. My 1986 Comanche 2wd has the same 2 piece rotor and hub setup that yours has. My 1986 Jeep Comanche factory parts manual shows both setups available on the 1986 Comanche 2wd. I do not know about the 1987 and up Comanche 2wds though. Also when you go look up parts for your truck on Autozone or any other auto parts website they list both setups for the 1986 Comanche 2wd, so you have to know what setup you have. You got the wrong rotor from the auto parts, take it back and get the correct rotor for the truck. I hope this info helps.
  12. I went through this same issue with my 1986 Comanche. I believe this is a 1986 Comanche thing only. All 1986 Comanches are longbeds. The Shortbed didn't come out until 1987. I don't think this has anything to do with the truck being a shortbed or a longbed. The 1987 and up Comanches have the cables going into the backing plates from the front. I have two 1986 Comanches, one that I drive and one for parts. The parking brake cables on both of them go into the backing plates from the rear. This makes the rear brakes completely opposite of all the others. The parking brake arms inside the drums are on the front side of the drum instead of the rear side. All the brake parts like the adjusters and the brake adjusting levers are marked with either an L or an R. The adjuster and adjusting lever marked with an L is supposed to be for the drivers side, but instead is on passenger side on the 1986 Comanches, so of course the adjuster and adjusting arm marked with an R goes on the drivers side on the 1986 Comanches instead of the passenger side like it is supposed to. You have to know this when getting parts. None of the auto parts have this correct on their computers when you look up brake parts for a 1986 Comanche. The adjusting cables inside the drum are also opposite they are on the front side of the drum instead of the rear side where they are on all other drum brakes I've seen. I hope this info helps.
  13. My 1986 Comanche 2WD has the 2 piece rotors with the hubs seperate from the rotors. The 1986 Comanche 2WD could have either setup. I am not sure about the other years. My factory 1986 parts manual lists both setups for the 1986 Comanche 2WD. You will have to check yours to see which setup it has. I hope this info helps.
  14. I have two of these coins also.
  15. Pete, I have one of these posters too.
  16. Does anyone else have any input on this? Thanks.
  17. Are you sure that this is a 4.0L I-6? A 1986 Jeep CJ wouldn't have a 4.0L I-6 in it. It would have a 4.2L 258 CI I-6 in it. It is not the same engine. The 4.2L 258 CI is carbureted and the 4.0L is Multi-Port fuel injected. Hope this info helps.
  18. The other question I have is about the brake adjusting cables inside the drums. Are they supposed to be facing the front or facing the rear? Mine are on the front side of the drums on my 1986 Comanche and I do not see any other way they can go being that the parking brake cables come into the brake backing plates from the rear on the 1986 Comanches. On all the brake diagrams they show the adjusting cables facing the rear, but they are not showing a 1986 Comanche. the 1986 Comanches are evidently different. I see no way the cables can be put on facing the rear. Will the adjusting cables work correctly and adjust the brakes correctly if they are facing the front like mine are? Can they work either way? I am just trying to figure out what is right on a 1986 Comanche. Can anyone with a 1986 Comanche look at their rear brakes and tell me if their brake adjusting cables are facing the front or facing the rear? Thanks a lot for any help that anyone can provide.
  19. JeepcoMJ, Did you ever look at those Cherokee axles you have to see if the parking brake cables go into the brake backing plates from the front or from the rear? Thanks.
  20. Thanks a lot. That is very helpful. I was thinking maybe someone switched the brake backing plates on my truck from one side to the other which would make the cables go in from the rear instead of the front. How do the cables go in on the Cherokee? Because all of the diagrams I see show the cables coming in from the front, but I think they are showing the rear brakes on a Cherokee because all the manuals cover the Cherokee and Comanche. Thanks in advance for the help. i have 3 cherokee rear axles, so I will look in the morning for you :D Ok, Thanks. Let me ask you one more question. The brake adjusting cables inside the drums. Which side are they supposed to be on? Facing the front of the truck or facing the rear? Thanks
