  1. What is the 4th character in the VIN? Is it an H or a U? If it's an H it had a 2.5L with TBI originally, if it's a U it had a 2.5L with a carburetor originally. I have never seen a 1986 Comanche with a carbureted 2.5L.
  2. That is not true. The 1986 2.5L is TBI and it has a PCV valve. 1987 and up has the CCV system.
  3. Here's what the emissions maintenance timer looks like: I hope this info helps.
  4. The shifter knob thread size is 10.0 X 1.50. The die that I have is an M10. It's metric thread. I hope this info helps.
  5. Lead?? Pencils don't have lead in them, it's graphite
  6. So According to the manufacturer the Pur-One has a better filtering capability. Take a look at this article too: http://www.corolland.com/oil-filters.html Here is what this person said in this article. If I had to pick 5 out of the 10 as being the best, I would pick the Purolator PureOne, K&N, Toyota, Wix, and Purolator PremiumPlus as this group. Their prices start at $3.49 and go up to $9.94. Probably only the Mobil 1 filter is superior to the filters in this group
  7. I thought all Comanche Eliminators were SWB... :hmm: thats what i thought for a while too. LWB Eliminators exist I didn't know that. That's interesting. I've never seen one. I also thought that all eliminators came with buckets seats.
  8. Not the same 2.5L engine of course. The 2.5L in the Comanche in an AMC engine, not a GM.
  9. I thought all Comanche Eliminators were SWB... :hmm:
  10. A Mobil 1 filter is the best filter you can buy as far as quality and filtering capability is concerned.
  11. The PH3387A is not the correct filter for your truck. Don't use it. I looked up the filters for your 1988 Jeep Comanche 2.5L. The correct Fram filter is: PH3985. Stay away from Fram, they are junk. Get a different filter like shelbyluvv said. The Wix 51626 and Napa FIL 1626 are the correct filters also.
  12. Wix lists on their site the 51085 for the 1991 and later 4.0L and the 51626 for the 1987-1990 4.0L.
  13. If you have the horizontal filter mount then you can't have the STP S3985 filter on there. The STP S3985 comes up as the correct filter for a 1988 Jeep Comanche with a 4.0L, This filter will not fit the horizontal filter mount because it has metric threads.
  14. The 2.5L I4 used in the Comanche is TBI (Throttle Body Injection), not carbureted.
  15. I don't understand why the Wix 51626 or the Napa 1626 (Also made by Wix) wouldn't fit. The STP S3985 cross references to the Wix 51626 and the Napa 1626. The filter adapter has metric threads. Are you sure the STP filter that was on it was an S3985?
  16. Make sure you try some of their Blinker Fluid!!! My blinkers have never worked better... :rotfl2:

  18. Here are the pictures of the truck for you:
  19. Check the 2 upper parking/turn signal bulbs in both taillights. They should both be double filament bulbs. Sometimes people put single filament bulbs in them and it connects the 2 prongs and will backfeed through the system. I hope this info helps.
  20. Pete, you beat me to it. I was looking for that picture, so that I could post it.
  21. By the shape of the differential cover.
  22. Yep, that's a Dana 35, no doubt.
  23. Sorry about that. I guess that just shows that you learn something new everyday. I thought the D44s only came under Metric Tons. I didn't know it was an option under some packages with a shortbed. I guess I better go read my 1987 Jeep Comanche brochure and look at the option packages.
  24. I just wanted to let you know that your Comanche couldn't have came stock with a D44 anyways. There were no shortbed Comanches that came stock with a D44. The D44 came stock under the Metric Ton Comanches and all Metric Ton Comanches are longbeds. I hope this info helps.
  25. There were 4 stock tire sizes available on a 1986 Comanche and they were P195/75R15, P205/75R15, P215/75R15 or P225/75R15. I hope this info helps.
