  1. You'll have to surgically remove the MJ bracket from the bench. Answer is no, you'll have to remove the brackets from the floor.
  2. I've gone through several of those switches. My plug melted so badly it was unusable. I just rewired for the Ford switch. Bad switch and I'm done with those.
  3. Yeah, I get it. Same part, MJ or XJ. One gets a block off plate and no ashtray. The other gets ashtray and no block off plate. They made one console for two different applications, same part, different configurations. This is done all the time. Same with the cluster tray, same tray, four different gauge configurations, four different part numbers............still the same tray.
  4. No, that's not what I meant.......lol Those of us who study history/science/bible know that the earth has been destroyed several times before and it will be destroyed again, at least partially. Tornadoes remind us of who's in charge, it ain't you, it ain't me. If someone or something doesn't try to kill you today, consider it a blessing.
  5. The ones that I've seen.........the MJ has the brake lever insert/block-out plate, that is likely the difference in part numbers. Otherwise it's the same part.

  7. For those of you who are not used to tornadoes, below is what happens. Yeah, I was trying to be helpful. Fruitless. I'm guessing you opened your garage door, right?
  8. That same band of weather is approaching me now, not good.
  9. Also, just so you know- Cars/trucks are not safe in garages during a tornado. First thing that goes is the garage door, then the outside garage walls. Roof structures collapse. Tornadoes are huge vacuums.
  10. Hail damages rooves.........or roofs. Check yours tomorrow.
  11. The year I had was a '94, it was a donor, but I suspect it is the same for all years later than that.
  12. More room at the accelerator pedal. Clutch and brake moved left AWAY from the accelerator pedal. More room for the fun pedal.
  13. Thanks guys. I had a lead on one locally, contacted seller..........bla bla bla....when I get around to it I'll contact you blllalalblalblagblabl ........one of my few CL BS encounters. It was a '98. That's really what I want. Only reason I was a little anxious is that I want to install my new steering column but I need to do the pedal assembly first, not after. I'm patient, one will come around.
  14. I'll add one more thought- I posted a vid of my new engine at idle in my build thread, mainly to show that after mods the engine ran well. Previously I had found an ignition module NOS, OEM, Siemens, dated 1994, it sat in a box for 24 years, complete with coil. I was saving it for future replacement after the original failed. I decided to go ahead and swap it. Idle is much more even or flat or constant, throttle response is more crisp.....it runs even better. I've not posted on this because, some will say electronics are electronics, they work or they don't. I'll disagree, after thirty years of use, heating, cooling...........age. All things wear out, they tire. Aftermarket parts are not the same quality as OEM. Yet, after 30 years we expect them to perform as new.
  15. If someone did the math- It would be an interesting comparison between the two, 4.56 on 35 to 3.07 on 28, I suspect the final drive would be a wash, about the same. Years ago when I was buying XJs and selling, some were peppy, some were dogs, all ran well, no rhyme nor reason. My wife's XJ is very peppy as Jeeps go, compared to my Nisan 4.0, the Jeep is an absolute dog. If you did a compression check, my guess is that two or more cylinders are down around 90lbs.............worn out or at least tired. I would also suspect aftermarket sensors or a failing sensor.
  16. Thank you very much for the efforts! I'm trying to get my hands on one to replace the MJ assembly with an XJ.
  17. The pedals on the XJ are moved to the left, they are not in the same position as the MJ. This is what I'm looking to achieve. The pin size can be overcome...........not an issue.
  18. http://www.jeepcommander.com/forums/5-general-commander-discussion/11962-rear-axle-identification.html 307 or 373..........those are your options, apparently.
  19. Yeah, let us know about the commander axles, PnPs are full of them now.
  20. I need pics of the pedal assembly, square on with all three pedals and a pic up under the dash of the mounting points. Please.
  21. Looks like you have a late production 86 with the serpentine. Most I've seen are v-belt. As for getting the alt out, two bolts, one plug, one wire, I've gotten mine out without removing any other parts. Easy 30 minute job. Did you get it fixed?
  22. The 'almost right' nuts from Lowes will eventually fail.................ask how I know?
