  2. Okay, you win. In the United States, there is a fixed relationship between the engine speed and the wheel speed. In Canada the laws of Physics and Mechanics do not apply. Now we can both be right. I would take it a step further...........but I won't. At least it was a mod that said it. :P
  3. Fel-pro seals. It's a one piece and not the two piece of the 4.0 If I'm not mistaken the fly wheel is retain or replace only.........it is crowned or beveled and you cannot resurface. If there is no heat damage or surface damage I would just retain it. This is also the time to move up to the external slave bell housing.
  4. By connecting the switch you are supplying power. Yeah I would splice it in.
  5. Will the later model pumps with the reservoir on the pump itself work?

  7. Either the pick up screen is clogged or the oil filter is.........or yeah you got problems. Napa Gold or Purolator PureOne.

  10. I took a wire wheel to mine............the first thing I did when I got it home.
  11. Yes. Does the one you used also work on a Renix 4.0 ? There are two versions I found.........1/4 NPT or 3/8 NPT. You need to figure out what you have. Advanced Auto has the BW 'big' book they should be able to find the related 3/8 NPT one if that's the one you have.

Certain XJ models were produced with constant-velocity joints instead of universal joints.) 1996–1999: Dana 30, High Pinion, Reverse Cut, 297x/760 universal joint, 27-spline axleshafts. 2000–2001: Dana 30, Low Pinion, Standard Cut, 297x/760 universal joint, 27-spline axleshafts. 1985–2001: Straight non-driven front axle for two-wheel drive only. 14. I'm curious..........what is 'cheap'? Seems that everyone picks up $200 trucks but I can't find one anywhere.
  15. No. You can keep the axle you have. I'm of the mindset that it's best to swap everything over stock to stock and once complete and running then make modifications. The only exception I would make is if I were set on the Chrysler 8.5 instead of the D35 as this will effect drive shaft length.
  16. viewtopic.php?f=2&t=33023 Is this what you are talking about here?
  17. http://knoxville.craigslist.org/cto/2706929620.html This is the kind of donor you will want to look for in your area. I tried to get you to look for a 94 and up........why? Newer spare parts.......metal valve cover instead of the crappy warped plastic one that on their now...........starter.......alt..........radiator........power steering pump.......etc.....external slave. Also if you spend a little more and get a runner you will be able to test the tranny and TC..........I did not get a runner and I will have to swap trannies again.
  18. He's gonna use the axles from the 4.0 XJ and it's a mistake the he will regret but I'm not getting through to him. I think he is also under the impression the he can use the TC and install on his AX4........he cannot and his AX4 is useless too. Live and learn I guess.
  19. You have a 2wheel AX4 you cannot add on the TC from the XJ......you will need an AX4 or AX5 and TC. You will have a 4.11 gear in the rear of your truck now........you do not want to run the 3.55s from the XJ. I have the 2.5 and I have it running as well as it ever will and with 4.11s it's all it can do to get out of it's own way. Take off and 2nd gear and see how it feels...........3.55s will feel like you are taking off somewhere between 1st and 2nd.
  20. In my case I went from non working sensors to a complete and operating system and it was a vast improvement. I think since I had open loops for coolant temp and air temp my ECU was sending out a fuel signal that was cold/choke and it ran that way all the time.......rich.
  21. Yeah but I'm wondering just how sophisticated the '88 systems are? The original owner rebuilt the engine in mine 10 years ago and apparently retained all the original sensors. Even if he had replaced all of them at the time of rebuild (I'm certain he did not) they still had age on them in spite of only having 5K miles on the engine. So I started out with none of the sensors working except the intake pressure sensor. The only sensor that effected running temp directly and was the IAT. Cooling system is new with constant electric fan and temps consistently 5-8 higher across the driving range than prior to sensor changes. After new cooling system the temp gauge remained buried at 190 regardless of rpm/driving condition. It is my conclusion the the one sensor with the most effect on fuel trim was the IAT.

Anyone in E TN or NW NC? Anyone ever get together round here? Gatlinburg?
  23. Image Not Found Here's the deal- A few months ago I did my 4x4 swap with a tranny from a donor XJ that was 'supposed' to be good and it has gotten me by but the synchs are gone so I'm swapping again with another AX5 from a Wrangler. IIRC the XJ AX5 has a vent in the case with a vent hose sent up to the fire wall, the Wrangler has a vent in the shifter housing as seen in the pic. Not only is the shift lever a bit different it is also broken so I wanted to retain the Wrangler vent and replace the lever only when I install. Tool or no tool this sucker was not coming apart easily so I cut it apart. I may just switch housing with the one on the truck now and if the vent is not in the housing I may just install one myself.
