Yeah I have read about that also and the result is it will run rich. I chose to lean it out for economy and HP. Runs 5-8 degrees hotter......but better........more crisp.

Your 4.0 XJ will offer you nothing but maybe interior parts and odds and ends.......mirrors.....doors......etc. You need a 2.5 XJ for AX5 and TC and front 4.10 axle. You will also need to have a DS built. 94 and up will offer you the external bell housing and slave and master...........I have one for sale if you need it.

86 comanche axle info needed
Jeep Driver replied to goatroper57's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
No. I was hinting to you to get to know your junk yards and find out what's in them. You'll find the 4.11 in XJs and Comanches with 2.5 engines. And I have driven around the Cape Girardeau area.........there is at least 6 cars on blocks per front yard :) should be something in your area. -

You just made my point for wanting to keep the 4.10.........YOU WANT THE 4.10 and not the 3.55 for what you are wanting to use it for. Check the junk yards and craigslist for a 4.11 rear. There is one here under a Comanche in the JY.............come and get it. -

The bumper itself looks real nice...........just don't think I'd pull much with it though. -

Find a 4.11 out of a 2.5 Comanche and keep your 4.10 in the front. No you don't want the ZJ axles. If you find a 4.11 out of the rear of a XJ you'll need to move the perches. -
You got it. And yes drilling the hole is the way to stop the crack from growing, it's the only way to stop it, the weld is the repair of the damage and not the fix for the cracking. The cab in it entirety is the frame......that's what uni-body is. You stress the 'frame' you stress the entire cab.

swap standard trans to auto
Jeep Driver replied to flracer's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
BTW when I did my 2x4 to 4x4 swap on the Comanche I used a 94 XJ and by the time I got done selling some of the parts and scraping the rest my donor parts were cost free......yep cost free. Now the new parts are a different matter :P -
swap standard trans to auto
Jeep Driver replied to flracer's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I did that swap to a Ford van years ago......back in the day when a C4 only required a vacuum line and linkage. If it were me I'd take it from a complete donor with a known good tranny. I believe the TPS is different and maybe sections of the wire harness and linkage etc....... Also you can scrap the donor and get some of you money back. I look for donors that have more than one thing to offer...........chrome grill........chrome mirrors.........good buckets......interior trim........good cluster........good tires.......etc...........this is all salable or useable on the Comanche. -
There should be a continuous power wire to the radio for clock and memory.......yellow IIRC.....just tap that one. BTW the blue splice connectors are nice.......no wire cutting and can be tapped anywhere in line.

Yeah it makes a considerable difference. I drove about 300 miles today down I40 chasing down another XJ and not once did I down shift on the inclines and there are plenty here in E TN. Runs about 5-8 degrees hotter too, I can tell it's leaned out a bit now. Along with a bit better mileage. With each sensor I changed out I notice a difference in the way it ran.........the only one I have not changed is the intake manifold pressure sensor, when I unplug it the engine loses idle completely so I assume it's still working. My next and last swap will be the complete throttle body. NOS is available for $250.

Jeep Driver replied to trapperbb's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I've got an 88 with the tach cluster out of what I believe to be a 90XJ.
