  1. In fact the person who hit my wife his car was totaled and our insurance company paid out. Emotions and attachments and wishes and desires mean nothing. The car has a value and if it's cheaper to total than repair.....that is their choice.
  2. I am planning on doing the repairs myself, nobody touches my cars but me unless absolutely necessary (inspection, etc). This is not major repairs, the total it due to the age of the truck. The difference between you XJ and my MJ was the loss was your (your wifes) fault, if I had wrecked the truck it would be a shame on me kind of deal and I would deal with it. In this case I was at a complete stop at a construction zone, it wasn't raining, foggy, or dark, and I was visibile for at least 100 yards, maybe more and this guy still managed to smash in to me. I am not taking a loss due to someone elses mistake if at all possible. I'm not going to argue with you and the laws in your state (unknown) maybe different but loss is loss regardless of who is at fault. Their insurance company is not required to do anything actually but represent their party and you may be required to sue them. You can make all the demands you want but if they decide to total they will and cut you a check for the value.
  3. You'll never see $3000.......sorry for your loss. You might see $1200 and it may be totaled with the insurance company owning salvage rights and you losing the truck. Some states force a 'salvage title' on major repairs.....TN does. If you want to keep your truck offer to settle with the insurance company for an acceptable amount and do the repairs yourself. Buy another box for $350 and get on with life. As for the frame? any reputable shop will be able to measure and tell you. Life's a bi--h sometimes. We ate our 98XJ three weeks ago after my wife totaled it.......I'm looking for another and it's not worth the claim.
  4. Hey that would be great. jeepmurphy@yahoo.com Thanks!
  5. I intend to get my truck painted and I want to replace the gasket on my rear slider. I called Safelite and Glass Doctor and I can't get past the idiot women who answer the phone. Anyone know a source for the rear slider or gasket? Will a new slider come with the gasket attached? Thanks
  6. It won't go into any gear? Sounds like the shifter is hitting the floor...........as jacking the rear up takes some stress off the drive train. Motor mounts? Drive shaft too long forcing the engine and tranny forward an inch?
  7. http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/hnp/c ... 65970.html I suppose it's this one. Just wondering......What would you northerners pay to have someone drive up a southern truck that isn't a rusted out POS?
  8. Thank you, that's what I was looking for.
  9. Sellers only claim.........'came off dakota shortbed'....with no other declaration. Do I trust their measurements? no thanks. Then drive 150 miles to pick it up? no thanks again.:) Generally asking I guess is for a cross reference for bed sizes.
  10. I got a lead on a cap for a 94 Dakota short bed, will it fit a Comanche short bed?

  13. I have a lead on a Cherokee and the owner claims it has a bad wrist pin. How common or rare is that and how do you think he came to that determination? First I've heard of a wrist pin going in a 4.0 and I would think it difficult to identify.
  14. Let me ask- Will worn spring bushings give a sloppy ride? To the degree that it will really be noticeable? If so..........I priced the bushings at about $30 each......$120 for a set. Would I be better off in the long run to just replace the whole springs?
  15. But WHICH Monroe shocks did you buy? It isn't fair to compare Monroes cheapest shock with another companies premium, performance shock. FWIW, it was exactly the type of driving you describe that I found the KYBs to be so horrible for -- especially the rears. They were fine over big dips, but over small cracks and ripples in the pavement they were unable to keep up, and the tail end (of a Cherokee, which is heavier than an empty MJ) was getting bounced all over the road. Personally, for your application I'd suggest the Monroe (or Rancho) Reflex shocks, but if you're dead set against Monroe, don't buy 'em on my say-so. I don't remember the model # but yeah the cheapest.....frankly the only shock Advance stocks for the Comanche in store. And admittedly I have not tried a better Monroe so maybe I should not have dismissed them. I did run by Napa today and get a feel of the Ranchos, pretty stiff, maybe I'll like them better.
  16. Will the high alt sensor help a 2.5 gain any low end power?
  17. Excellent, thank you. I may be foolish but I'm replacing as I can afford to.
  18. I tossed my bench seat on the scrap trailer today.........what are the brackets worth? Should I cut them off in the morning?
  19. Have any of you adapted a rear sway bar to your Comanche?
  20. I had the Bilsteins on a Ranger which for a truck actually handled pretty well already but he Bilsteins really woke it up. Yeah I like a really stiff ride and I have little tolerance for sway and lean in turns.......lotta back winding roads here in the mountains. I also don't like the the truck to be unsettled after hitting a bump. My Comanche is stock height and I don't expect a performance suspension by any means but damn...........I can feel the difference in behavior from the front to rear with no payload and I don't like it. BTW the KYB and Monroes are new........about 6 weeks old. I had enough PP money to order all my front end parts from RockAuto but not the rear shock......so I settled for Advanced Auto local and cash for the Monroes.....so sorry. And no I did not know that Monroe and Rancho were one in the same, thanks. Maybe I'll wait the week for the shipping.
  21. The KYB G2s are now special order for me or order on line and wait a week. I have the KYBs in the front and Monroes in the rear.......I will NEVER again spend money on Monroes. I am accustom to Bilsteins all around but I don't have $400 to spend on shocks but NEED to get these Monroes off ASAP! For you Rancho owners- Are Ranchos over rated? I'm considering the 5000s, what can I expect? BTW, I like the KYB, good shock for the money but once you've used Bilsteins.......nothing compares. Thanks

  24. If you have the large diameter tube-n-tube shaft........my drive shop refused to shorten it. I had them make up a new 3" shaft. They also would not use the shaft from a XJ as they said it was too small in diameter for a truck and there was a good chance I'd wring the shaft under load. Cost me $225 and they only used my yoke......the rest was new and all Spicer parts. And what a difference.......smooth, very smooth.
