  1. I have the 88 with what I believe is the cluster from a 90 with tach.
  2. Magnaflow on mine........no cat...........sounds nice.
  3. What filter are you using? I only use NAPA Gold or Pure1 myself now. After having two no-flow Frams............never again!
  4. Clean your grounds.........sound electrical not mechanical.
  5. My tax return finally came today........ So now I will be able to get the tank for my new mig that's been sitting in it's box for the last two years. Been using a Lincoln box but I want the mig for this project. And then to order the metal. I intend to build the receiver behind the new bumper...........IOWs using the bumper as a facade for the hitch. I'll post pics in a few weeks when I get geared up for the project.
  6. I just spent the last hour searching the SE for a 2.5 XJ, there was one in NC yesterday for $750. They pop up now and then but don't last long. If you are serious about finding one it takes dedication and the willingness to run out the door and chase it down when you find one. Can't tell you how many deal I've lost by not getting there in time. I made a deal in Richmond VA one evening, 3 calls to the seller by 8pm, got directions and gave him my commitment to be there by 9am. Got the wife to bed early, truck cleaned, gassed, day bag and papers packed. I'm on my way to bed to get a couple hours sleep and the phone rings, it's 10:30, seller calls to tell me not to come because he just sold it.........WTF??? Who shows up at 10:30 at night to buy a Jeep?? Same type of a-hole that shows up at 7am........wakes seller out of bed........to beat me out of a 9am buy.........yep.
  7. Why the 5 speed? Cause I like my 5th gear........you will too. I putt around in 5th gear all the time.........900rpm at 35mph round town.........and on the highway, 1900rpm at 70mph. You'll like the 5 speed.
  8. There are 2w trans and 4w trans.......you cannot bolt a TC to a 2w trans...........there is no flange to bolt to. Look for a 94+ XJ with 2.5
  9. Don't waste your time and money on the SS........I did.
  10. The 2W cable is too short for the 4W..........my guess is.....(you stretched it?) you pulled it out of the back of the speedo.
  11. I looked at an MJ to buy a couple of months ago. Owner had a single to dual exhaust from what he said was a 96 Camaro. Muffler mounted right behind the rear axle and the tips ran out behind the tires at the back of the wheel wells.......fit was near perfect. Magnaflow was the brand IRRC.........sounded great.
  12. CPS is the crank shaft position sensor.........they will load up with filth and may cause it not to read correctly. But if you pull it out to clean it I'd go ahead and replace it.......you'll only want to do it once.......PITA. You stated here you disconnected the CPs..........?
  13. Also getting rid of the cat and that useless crappy-@$$ air box will make a huge difference. Clean your throttle body too.
  14. Well others can state their opinions............. The approach I took with mine was to go through the entire electrical system.........upgrade and replace. Even though the previous owner had the engine rebuilt (only 5K on when I got it) he did not replace any of the sensors or upgraded any of the electrical. After 25 years...........don't you think it's time? BTW.....it does make difference.......a noticeable one. And I have the same 88 2.5 as you and if you want the full potential out of it......well......
  15. It may be time to start throwing some sensors at it. And cleaning your grounds and C101 connector. I would start with the O2 and CPS. And check for vacuum leaks.
  16. Doesn't exist for the BA 10/5. Ok........move to one that does.
  17. I'm going to go by LineX for a quote in the next couple of weeks. You guy should read up a little on the materials they use, much more durable and better finish quality. Also note that LineX material contain no solvents and drys in seconds.
  18. I would suggest if you have a keeper to be on the look-out for an external bell and master/slave, when your internal goes out you will already have the parts for the conversion. And the bearing sleeve too.
  19. Thats what I was afraid of, its the one that came in the clutch kit and I can't remember the brand. When guys here brag about paying $147 for a complete clutch kit including TOB............(eyes roll).
  20. I have posted on this myself at least a dozen times. This should be, needs to be, a sticky warning.
  21. Hard to find......been looking. The cover is warping that why I use a liberal amount of UB the snug the bolts down just until the UB begins to ooze.
  22. I had a problem............and I think someone else here did too and I followed their lead..........ordered one (cable) for a XJ without cruise.
  23. I used 4g and soldered my lugs.
