I've not messed with a carb in 30 years, I have no intention to now either, so I cannot give you any specific advice. That said........ That carb is obviously designed for or around emissions, and it's a cluster-F, chuck in the trash where it belongs. I'd be looking for a 2 barrel Weber, nothing else. With a stock engine, you'll never get a 4 barrel jetted correctly. If you do go with a 4, you'll likely need a new intake, you'll be looking at $400 for a decent Edelbrock, and another $400 for a small Holley, 450 cfm or there about. Mechanical secondaries for sure. I scanned around last night and found nothing but a couple of S10 forums, nothing serious nor definitive regarding carbed 3.4 Call these guys, http://unitedspeedworld.com/ or Jegs or local speed shops in AZ, there is a lot racing out your way, you should have no problem finding information. One fuel line, one accelerator cable, and maybe one vacuum line........and........whatever you decide about a choke, cable or wire or.....that's it, keep it simple, it should look nothing like the cluster you have on there now. A good Weber is still going to run you about $450, I'm guessing, there won't be a cheap solution. Lastly, most, if not all, manufactures produce off-road versions, has to do with the way the floats are designed........make sure you ask if Weber has an off-road version of whatever carb you choose.

After 40 years in Clwr/Tampa area, I've had my share of tornadoes, winds, hurricanes and floods. I had no idea that Houston was below sea level, even FL is 4-30' above, mostly.

Rear ends....Comanche rear ends that is.
Jeep Driver replied to coolwind57's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I got my last set of3"x 9/16" ubolts from a tractor trailer supply/service shop.......IIRC, $4 each with washers and deep nuts.....about $21. I used a HD 5/8 spring plate and made my own shock mounts. -
I bought the HF stud welder today, the thing actually works. Learning curve.......I had to fill in a couple of pin holes with the mig. I put a straight edge to it and it's actually pretty good, good enough for Bondo.

It's a good thing my grinding skills are better than my welding skills...........LOL At least the hinge won't come off.

It's what they do, and they do it better than anyone else in the world. I suspect the US mil is 10-20 years advanced in tech than what we know about, other than that, there is nothing the US has that China does not. Our gov is not on your side, they are not protecting you, not operating your you best interest.....but that's another matter all together which will not be discussed here.

How about a 2009 Cherokee front clip on your MJ? I'd buy that, that's cool.

There is nothing wrong with the 8.25 in an MJ, I have one, it's a good affordable choice. -
As an aside......my own editorial......... For years, I would get home from work and sit at a computer and read.....read.......read, for hours, 3 to 4 hours per night. News, politics, current events. It became impossible to discern BS from the truth. You need to be aware: 90% of what is published, shown on TV, is designed to entertain the monkeys. That's right, you are nothing more than a pet that needs to be entertained and distracted. You are being played, by everyone. I was not joking in the China thread when I said I wish they would buy Jeep. China would, in fact, build better product, cheaper, more reliable, and they would build what we want, not what they think (we) the suckers will buy. Jeep/Chrysler already sold out to the Germans and the French, what makes you think they won't (already have) sell out to the Chinese? As to the J-truck, if they built one right, it would dominate the 1/2 ton/sport truck/4x4 sales for the next 10 years, but, they won't.

Jeep Cherokee is still in Production in China This is the good old Jeep Cherokee, still in production in China today. Name is different: Beijing Auto Works Knight S12. The Knight is a left-over from the Beijing-Jeep joint venture (later Beijing-Chrysler, later Beijing-Daimler-Chrysler). The JV made the Cherokee in China from 1984 until 2009. When Chrysler-in-crisis pulled out in 2009 Beijing Auto Works, a subsidiary of BAIC, continued production of the Cherokee all by itself. Jeep Cherokee production begins in China The first Jeep Cherokee produced in China rolled off the assembly line on Monday, marking a significant milestone for the sport utility vehicle brand. Executives with Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV and Guangzhou Automobile Group, its Chinese joint-venture partner, were joined by senior government officials for a special event at the company’s Changsha plant, where the vehicle will be produced for that market. “Today marks a milestone in the history of our brand,” said Mike Manley, head of Jeep and chief operating officer of the Asia-Pacific region. The GAC Fiat Chrysler Automobiles joint venture expects full Cherokee production in November, with deliveries to begin before the end of the year. By 2016, the Jeep brand’s portfolio in China is expected to consist of three new models, including the locally-produced Jeep Cherokee and Jeep Renegade. China is an important part of Jeep’s global expansion through 2018. Fiat Chrysler plans to produce 1.9 million Jeeps by 2018 at 10 plants in six countries: the U.S., Italy, China, Brazil, India and one other yet-to-be-announced country. Two years ago, only 798,000 rolled out of four plants in the United States. http://www.detroitnews.com/story/business/autos/chrysler/2015/10/19/jeep-cherokee-china/74210338/

They have nukes and ICBMs............what exactly does the 2018 Cherokee possess in the way of 'tech' that China does not already have? How is whatever tech they might gain.......they won't gain anything........a national security threat?

I decided to repair my worn hinges this way. I could not get the pins to move so I cut them out and used brass washers to make up the difference. They are so nice and tight now, I can't wait to have doors that actually swing like they are supposed to. :)

91 and newer 2.5l intake into 86 2.5l
Jeep Driver replied to Me&my86MJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yeah, there was a change, IDK what year, I was just giving a reference point. Belt position was brought in closer to the block on the later years by about 1/2", accessory brackets are completely different. AMC models the PS pump is the belt tensioner, later models the PS pump is fixed to the intake and a tensioner is below and separate. This is where the bosses change. -
91 and newer 2.5l intake into 86 2.5l
Jeep Driver replied to Me&my86MJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
You have to find a '92 intake, the PS bosses need to match the AMC accessories to get the belt alignment. You'll have to make your own adapter, MPI gasket below and TBI gasket above. Thermo housing is still available, AMC type, you can use the Chrysler style, just make certain you make a provision for the temp sender, crucial. -
Millennials.............. I keep telling you guys............. Men ain't men anymore.

I have converted the 'curved' over to the MJ...............meh.............not impressed. But they'll be fine, I guess. As I stated in another thread, Corbeau is a grand$. $800 for the seats and $100 for each bracket.......or make your own. The only thing that holding me back from Corbeau is being able the two-tone the seat, black and tan/camel color. Either way, expensive. You'll regret the cheapo Jeep seats..........every seller has them for $200 or so............don't bother. I've got a MJ bench that is trashed but good brackets, what are you guys willing to pay?

Looked like a Ferrari to me.............whatever it is, I can't afford it.

Upgrade Front Turn Signals
Jeep Driver replied to coolwind57's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The only thing I have to add here is that new sockets are available at the parts stores, I replaced all of mine, wire too. Regrettably, I chucked the 90 degree headlight sockets, standard sockets are too tight, I've yet to find stock ones. -
You hold on to those for another 10 years and you'll get every penny of the $900. I'm not interested in MJ tail lights, one of many AMC/Chrysler/Jeep many mistakes. I keep speaking to the larger picture here. Apparently, most folks cannot learn from contemporary history. A buddy of mine from HS had two 67 Mustangs, factory 289 4 speeds, one blue and one white, he totaled them both. Back then, 82-84 or so, those Mustangs were $1200 used cars, anywhere by the dozens. Below is a pic of my 71 Camaro SS, split bumper. I long for those days, they are gone. You won't find a used driver today, Mustang or Camaro, not one either one of us can afford. Same will happen here, ten years from now there will be two types of MJs, rust buckets unworthy of restoration and ones in the $10K to $20K price range. Below is a pic of a NAXJA members FSC, he is also restoring an XJ, thread is here- http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1091129 He is an amateur restorer, a home restorer. I'm only guessing at value here, the FSC is likely in the $35K neighborhood, maybe $40K to the right buyer. A true concours restoration.......maybe in the $80-90K range. What motivates me? I'm 52 years old, I have another 20 productive years left, If I'm blessed. My MJ is already an antique, its straight, worthy, and I know how to work on it, I own it........so............It might as well become my toy. Pigeon Forge is the Hot Rod mecca of the SE, Cruise-ins, Rod Runs, Jeep Invasions, and the like. Millions of people come from all over with all kinds of hardware. My truck may never compete with most but I will build a respectable and unique Jeep. There are plenty of JK/JKU snobs around too and I'll not have them looking down their noses at me. There is money here, lots of money, Cosby is a podunk nothing town in the middle of BFE and I caught this guy getting gas yesterday- Yeah, I want to have a little fun myself, even if I can't afford a $300K Ferrari.

Relay cover tab replacements?
Jeep Driver replied to Skorpyo's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yes we are. I've been beating this drum for some time now. Knox PnP has had NO 97+ XJ for weeks now........none........and they have always had at least a dozen any time I've been there over the last 6 years. -
Relay cover tab replacements?
Jeep Driver replied to Skorpyo's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I've never even seen those in a JY. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Jeep-87-90-XJ-Cherokee-Comanche-underhood-Relay-Cover-w-clips-Renix-8956002298-/232456218086?hash=item361f7865e6:g:JF8AAOSwYzFZmaj0&vxp=mtr -
Who is that? And your point is?
-
Oh, come on now, that's apples to oranges. I don't care what the guy buys or doesn't buy, that's not the point of my post. On one hand you guys want, on the other hand, you don't want to pay for what you want. The guy claims to have $5K invested in axles, for example, I have no doubt he does. Everyone one of you want D44s, there is a thread here of guys complaining about spending $400 for one. Two axles bought, regeared, new bearings, seals, covers, brakes front and rear discs, AND lockers, set up for the MJ, painted...............that's going to run you $5K. I was mocked on another site for my Synergy steering (junk). My ultimate goal is better brakes, Wilwoods will cost me $1,250, as of today, I'm $300 short......next week I'll place my order. Point is- I've invested more than twice what I paid for my MJ in steering, suspension, brakes............. You want, you pay. Tail lights for example, this will cost me $1000.......but I want what I want and I want it done right. Not some cobbled together make-do crap. I'm spending well over $3000 on paint plus my countless hours of body work........worth well over $5K. It's not just the big items either, you completely rebuild a truck and it will nickle-dime you to death. I've got nearly $20K invested in mine and it's a stripped down basket case.........paint. $3K invested in an engine that is coming out next year, making way for a SBC. I weighing trans decisions, new 700r4 or AX15..........don't really want to lose my clutch.......either way........$3500 New engine and trans, easy $10K....easy. I'll be well into $30K when I'm done. I want what I want. Seats, I've got to make a decision on seats, new Corbeau buckets or re-upholster the buckets I have........either way.......$1000. Why bother? My truck will never be for sale, I'll hand it to my son when I'm done with it...........I'll not let you guys mock me for my asking price.

More 1986 MJ 4x4 2.5 L. Clutch parts issues.
Jeep Driver replied to Dogote's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Those are not cracks in the bell, BTW. Every one I've had look exactly like that. I also have a bearing plate, I'll send it if yours is not exactly like mine, but I think they are the same. If you measure, I'll measure.......if the same, I'd rather not send this one out until I decide what to do with the gear box.- 10 replies
