Where does someone like me find one of those "thingies"?
-
My MJ came with full gauges in blue. Several years ago, I swapped out the gauges to the red ones. I have changed my mind and want to go back to the blue ones. However, some of the gauges do not read correctly (oil and temp). The red OP gauge was reading pressure at 40 - 60 psi. The old blue is reading <20. When I turn the key to start the engine, the OP needle buries far down to the left. The temp gauge has always read low (could be the sending unit). I will use the blue tach and speedo. Can I swap the faces from the blue on to the mechanical parts of the reds? I tried to pull the needles off the red units but could not get the to pop off. Do I need to pull harder? (Before you comment, all the clusters I have [4] are renix era, blue cases, cable drive speedos. Two AMC, one Chryco, and one not sure.)

Thank you. Now I can sleep comfortably at night. :laughin:

Could be, Maybe I'm looking at it upside down :laughin:

Please fix the front grill cover. It is upside down.

Parts, parts and more parts. Parts is parts. I'm not looking to drive it. I just want the parts. Pw windows & locks, cruise, ECM, any sensors and wiring harness.

The one I am going to look at (if the person calls me back. I did speak with him) is an XJ. One of the photos on CL clearly shows the tcase shifter with "2wd-4full-4part-N-4low"
-
I can always hope.

Thanks. I know what to look for. I thought (hoped) that a 44 was a factory default for 242. I will find out this weekend.
-
I am going to look at an '89 XJ with a 4.0, automatic and a NP242 transfer case. The owner says it is original not modified, so the axle gears are 3.55. I know (believe) that the front axle is a Non-CAD Dana 30 - Good. What would the rear axle be: Dana 35 (bad) or Dana 44 (good)?

Oil leak after new rear main install
87MJTIM replied to Scooterlawson80's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Look higher up on the engine...look at the valve cover. -
Not likely, Mine are factory installed. The tow mirrors require an internal bracing to support them. It is unlikely the dealer would disassemble the door to install the bracing, then install the mirror, THEN reassemble the door.

i also have the 3.07 ratio il6 manual.it does great until i get to a hill which are every where haha.I'm thinking fuel injector since if i give it gas before hill and then hold it and pump down every couple secs it does ok mostly as in holding speed but if its not pumped just right then naw she slowing down not drastically but by the top I'm down to 55 or 50 depending on how big hill is.the injectors look twenty years old haha time to change em Sent from my LG-V410 using Tapatalk That's the 3.07. Mine had the problem since it was new...30 yrs ago. Just downshift to 4 and you can get up any hill at 65 MPH. -

What engine and transmission do you have? I have a 4.0 manual transmission. The axles have 3.07 ratio. My MJ does exactly what you describe. You could have the axles re-geared to 3.55 or higher -
What line is it, anyway?
87MJTIM replied to Comavalanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Tex is correct, it is the Tcase vent tube. It bolts up toward the top of the bell housing or somewhere up higher in the engine bay. It allows the tcase to vent without pulling back in water. If your trans was recently out, the line was not properly connected when it was reinstalled. -

To all pet owners' who have lost a loved one: On the other side of the bridge to forever, our animal friends wait for us. Good-bye hurts so much but someday you will think of your animal friend with smiles instead of tears, and it will feel as if this little soul left a rainbow in your heart. A card given to us upon the passing of our first friend.

It is not hard at all. It is messy, time consuming and MESSY. All you need is a standard set of sockets and wrenches. Also, a floor jack and jack stands. See this http://comancheclub.com/topic/45246-rear-main-seal/ I listed the steps for the rear main seal. While you have everything off, it may make sense to change the RMS also.

My wife and I are dog lovers. We've had 5 dogs since 1988. One is still with us. Our dogs are family members. When we travel - we have a travel trailer - our dogs come with us. We do not leave them in kennels. For 3 of our dogs, we have had to make that "last visit with the vet." Our first visit was very hard on us. The visits are always difficult. A good book for dog lovers who have lost their "family members" because of illness is Rescuing Sprite, by Mark Levine.

The MJ came with four different engines and had three different phases. The four engines were 2.5L 4 cyl,, 2.8 V6, 4.0 6 cyl and diesels '86 is a stand alone year. It was the only year that came with the 2.8 V6. This is not a desirable engine. Many owners swap in a GM 3.4 or a 4.0 conversion. There are also differences in the front radiator and supports. '87 - '90 came with the 4.0 6 cyl. These are called Renix Jeeps The fuel delivery system was designed by Renault and Bendix (Re-nix). Good engines, but lots of hoses and sensors. These are not OBD compatible. (A member on CC sells a scanner that can read the signals for the Renix. Well worth the investment.) '91 - '92 are the HO (High Output) engines by Chrysler. These two years saw the fewest productions runs with 92 only seeing approx 4000 made. The 2.5 was offered for all the years. This engine is basically a 4.0 minus two cylinders. The diesel stopped in 89 or 90. Not many diesel were sold in the USA. These are great little trucks. I get a lot of compliments on mine often. It shares a lot of parts with the Cherokee XJ (84-96), so replacement parts are still available through parts stores and online retailers. However, there are part that are unique to the MJ and very hard to find (cargo box and all attachments[tail lights], rear bumpers, fuel sending unit, rear leaf springs and probably others will mention). I love mine. Original owner, 288900 miles. Never plan on selling.

What yr? Eng? Trans? Everyone can/will give advice (some may be useful).
-
I do not know if there is a diff from 2.5 to 4.0, but mine takes 22 mm. A 7/8" wrench fits, also.

There are youtube videos for practically everything! Check FixJeep on YT or www.fixjeep.com. He has a video on re-clocking a NP231 to an AX15 from an XJ to his TJ. If you do the steps in reverse you can clock a YJ trans to an MJ. Link to videos: http://www.fixjeeps.com/Jeep-transfer-case.html template for clocking: http://www.fixjeeps.com/support-files/ax15_np231tcasereclocktemplate.pdf
