New project 1988 MJ Comanche Pioneer
RockMJ replied to Texas88's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Welcome aboard! Yeah, I have to second that motion about pulling a new harness. Probably wouldnt hurt to inspect the cab wiring as well. Any questions you might have, just go ahead and ask the members! RockMJ -
Oh and I refinished the headliner and installed the dome light :D RockMJ
-
Made a little progress today... Tomorrow I wrap up the front clip RockMJ

Its going into an MJ. I guess my big question was what should these wires be tapped into in the MJ harness to make them work? I plan on just running some wires over to the b-pillar lights I put in but I cannot remember how I wired them. Ill take a look at the wiring I did in a bit and see what the color code is RockMJ

Ive owned almost every Jeep from the 1980's on and going from a 2004 Unlimited to the MJ was a bit of a change. But in a good way. I can definitely say that the group of guys I went wheeling with a few times in the LJ have all but stopped talking to me since I got the MJ. The entire club is basically made of up TJ's and YJ's and I believe one XJ so they are pretty biased towards "real Jeeps." I had one guy ask me if I really think its wheelable? I just laughed at the ignorance and simply said its all dependent on the driver, not the Jeep. Ive seen a few high dollar rigs get stuck countless times on simple obstacles because of driver error. A ZJ on 40's and 60/14 combo getting hung up on stuff guys on 35's were walking over. All in all, they are all Jeeps and we all love them the same but we have loyalty to our "oddball" rigs that nobody else understands. Gotta love the MJ's and the feathers they ruffle :D RockMJ

I am thinking of mounting it in the middle of the headliner and making up some brackets out of aluminum to attach the dome light to. Should work just fine and ill let everyone know what I come up with RockMJ

Hey guys, I just received my NOS OEM Cherokee dome light assembly from teamcherokee.com. Just wondering if anyone knows the wiring color codes I should be hooking these up to? On the plug the colors are: Orange (thicker wire. 12v source?) White (thicker wire. Door switches?) White (two smaller gauge to one plug. Grounds?) Here is a picture for reference Once I get the wiring down I need to figure out how to secure it to the headliner. Any ideas? RockMJ

I received some more goodies for the MJ. Its been a good week so far :D RockMJ

Rich, I would but I am working tomorrow so ill be gone all day. Ahh, next time though! I need some stuff, mainly a tailgate, a replacement clock and maybe some bucket seats. Ill have to link up with you guys in the future for sure RockMJ

I like it! Nothing wrong with doing things differently to accomplish the same goal. Street only Jeeps do exist, even though many of us pretend they don't :brows: RockMJ

Not discounted anymore? I just ordered mine probably three weeks ago and I paid for one and got two. I just sent him a message on eBay ahead of time saying I was a CC member. Another option is to put in a stock Cherokee dome light with map lights. I just bought a NOS one from teamcherokee.com for 30$. They also sell rear view mirrors on sites like Quadratec that have map lights in them as another option. Hope that helps RockMJ

After hearing/reading about this, Hanson is definitely off my list of items to buy. I have dealt with them when I had a ZJ way back when and they were helpful with my questions at the time. However, the argument of short box vs long box doesnt make any sense and bringing up Skunkworks is another useless point to justify lying to a customer. Giving a customer the run around and then trying to back up your reason for stringing him along is in bad taste, but doing it on a public forum makes the company look bad. I personally cannot understand why a company would offer a product for sale if it isnt ready to be produced and shipped. Regardless as to whether or not his card was charged or not you shouldnt offer something for sale if its going to be months before its shipped, or if so, at least post it on the website as an FYI. I am glad I read this post as I was going to purchase one of these bumpers next month. Thanks for the heads up on this, I will definitely pass on the headache. You can probably blame the JK craze for your problem lol RockMJ

Not a problem to make one up. I just have an aftermarket tachometer in mine and my OEM cluster didnt have one. Send me some PM's if you guys want so we keep the thread clutter down :D RockMJ

I thought about it but it doesnt match the rest of what I'm doing. I'm going to see how well the needles are illuminated at night and if need be ill change the colors up. So far its looking promising RockMJ

Sounds good Willy! When I did mine I just took out the ACOS I had up front and put a stock .25" pad back in and it sat perfect. Loving the progress man! RockMJ

Finished up my custom gauge overlay. Decided to go with a white backing. It is finished and looking amazing RockMJ

Willy, awesome work man! A word of advice though, that TnT truss is going to add some height to the front end of the Jeep. I used this truss on my 44 build in my ZJ and it added at least 1-1.5" of lift to the front because of the difference in the coil buckets over the factory ones. Just a heads up so your not like "what the hell?" can't wait to see the progress RockMJ

here's my progress for today. Column is repainted to match the interior changes and the new steering wheel is installed! meljr, yeah I am also going to be making a set of white ones to see which I like better. So far, I'm loving the look RockMJ

The stock backing doesnt allow light through so these won't either. The lighting on them isnt affected at all over the stock ones. I am still working out the configuration of them right now so printing them is a ways off. Probably going to use a heavy gloss card stock thats laminated with a sticky back or double sided tape. The screws that hold the oem overlays in place will work just fine if I didnt want to put any adhesive on them. It should look really, really sharp RockMJ

I just received my Grant steering wheel complete kit. Will be installing it later today :D RockMJ
-
Junkyard run anyone? I need a few things and it sounds like LKQ is probably the biggest and best in the general area? Would still like to meet some other MJ owners in the area :D RockMJ
-
Just sneak the axle out from under it 8) . Sounds like a decent project for sure RockMJ
-
More than likely the CPS (Crank Position Sensor). These are notorious for going bad and when they do the Jeep will not start. Generally speaking when things like this occur you just run down the check list of fuel, spark, and air. Ive had several XJ's leave me stranded because of the CPS. Hope that helps RockMJ

Pete! I forgot to mention I got my stuff and its great stuff! Rocking the decal on the back window and its not even driving yet  . Thanks again man! RockMJ

RockMJ replied to H3RESQ's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Ive been trying to get to Moab for nearly 10 years now. Everytime I start planning the trip something comes up lol. My wife actually asked me the other day if we want to start planning a trip out there for when the MJ is done. Awesome pics man and I'm looking forward to some more RockMJ
