Can Comanches be reliable daily drivers?
RockMJ replied to big66440's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I'm in the same boat essentially. My LJ and I parted ways shortly after moving to FL and with gathered funds I bought a 88 MJ. I always wanted a Comanche and I was and still am excited about driving it. I have driven it once around the block before I parked it and started tearing into it. I have my fair share of cleaning up to do when it comes to the PO's "handy work." I am replacing or refreshing pretty much everything inside, outside and under the Jeep minus the engine and trans. Thankfully both are sound and when, not IF, but when the BA-10 goes out it will get the 4x4 swap. But definitely take pride in your MJ man. There arent a ton of them running around anymore, let a lone ones that are in good shape. Ive lived in FL for about seven months now and I have yet to see another MJ on the road and I travel all over the place regularly. Any questions that you might have go ahead and ask. Your in the right place RockMJ -
Definitely did man. Thanks again! RockMJ

And for future reference for anyone trying this, here's the wiring. Cherokee Dome Light Orange: 12v Constant Thick White: Door Check Thin Dual Whites: Grounds Comanche B-Pillar Courtesy Lights Red- 12v Constant Black/White Striped: Door Check Black- Ground Hope that helps anyone attempting this in the future! I will wire it up tomorrow and post some pictures RockMJ

I should probably mention that I am going to tap these wires into the b-pillar courtesy lights to keep the wiring uniform. Ill post up the finished product soon! RockMJ

Awesome thats what I was looking for! I had a hunch just from looking at the wiring but I was not 100% certain thats how it went. Thanks a ton man RockMJ

Anybody have any input? I am ready to put the headliner back in the Jeep and I want to make up the wiring harness ahead of time. Thanks! RockMJ

Works perfectly man. Just pull the brackets off, cut them and flip them around  RockMJ

Yeah, that was the PO lol. The day I got it I flipped it and I pointed it out to him and he looked at it and said it looked fine to him haha. Thanks for the compliments man, its been a lot of work sanding and refinishing all the parts, but its getting there! RockMJ

I almost have the front end finished up but here's a quick picture of it all together. I still need to run the wiring for the LJ fog lights but its all finished for the most part. And a very important before and after picture from when I got it to what it is today. Woohoo! RockMJ

Planning an axle swap in the future? Looks good other than the stock axles lol. Those rust pictures are going to give me nightmares man. RockMJ

x10 man haha! I am planning to finish up the front end this week, tackle the interior this weekend, and make my way back to the tailgate next week or weekend some time. Its funny because I went outside this morning to make sure I wasnt crazy and that it really was spotless lol. Thanks again man! RockMJ

I picked them up off eBay for about 115$ shipped. I cannot find the item in the sellers store otherwise I would post up the link. But these lights are bright and will suffice until I do an HID conversion. On a similar note, I got a lot of work done today on the MJ. I modified a set of factory fog lights from my LJ to work with the MJ's stock bumper and put some more of the front end together. I also sanded and painted the grille, un-dented the front bumper and painted it. RockMJ

Hey guys, just wondering if there are any other musicians on here? Rock, jazz, reggae, electronic etc? I personal produce electronic forms of tunage but I was curious if anyone else on here messed around with it. If anyone is interested ill post up my link to my soundcloud account. Later! RockMJ
-
Perfect condition. No dents, no rust, nothing. Just needs some paint and refinishing RockMJ
-
Awesome thanks for the info! I also started putting my front clip back together after all the paint work and new parts RockMJ
-
 I will let you know if anything on your list is there. Hey Rich, I snagged that tailgate you found me on CL. Thanks a ton buddy! RockMJ
-
Picked up a "new" tailgate! Completely rust and dent free on both sides. I'm so happy with it. Now it needs paint, some bedliner, and new decals and its go time! RockMJ
