It's crappy tire bedliner. Seems pretty tough, and non-slip; so when I have to crawl out of my window and onto my hood I won't fall in the mud... The rear bumper is going to get hacked and shortened. Then I gotta find some other lights. Unless I can work those stockers in.

I took a few more: This is the only "Before" pic that I actually have. Notice the crange... Image Not Found And now: Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found Image Not Found I didn't get the exhaust done yet either. I've got the pipe to run it up the back of the cab... And like I said, I need to trim some more.

stay away from early MJ's???
DirtyComanche replied to jeepaholic's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Or you can run the peugeot until it breaks. Chances are it won't strand you when it breaks, you'll just lose 1st or Reverse or something. -
They were stock jeep fare. You could get them on MJs and XJs, maybe YJs too. The aluminum ones will be where it's at, I'd think.
-
No, it's my poor photography. That and I've got a couple more inches to cut out there.

Thanks Pat. I'd thought about the rear shocks a lot and figured I'd mount them so they were triangulated towards the rear. Either by welding some brackets to the existing X-memeber or building a new one. I just threw them on there as-is to make it driveable. And I've got more trimming to do! I have to have the flares on there for it to be legal  . And those doors come off. Just mud/water/snow and mild trails really don't warrant pulling them off.

Rear Bumper Trailer hitch install
DirtyComanche replied to Speedbump's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Or, if those are seized, take the bed off. Makes it a snap. -
I've got a peugeot, without a radio it's ANNOYING. *Whir whir whir* *Click* *Thump* *Buzzzzzzzzzzzit* *Whir whir whir* And I'm in second gear just like that.

Image Not Found Wasn't too bad. I need to deal with the rear shocks; one of them bottomed out and moved its mount... The front needs some more trimming too. Oh, and I need to finish my exhaust and throw some decking on it. And bumpers! Need those, just about lost my headlights. Man, that's a crappy pic. Ohwell.

I declared war on the hornets with a can of carb cleaner and a propane torch. I'm alergic to the bastards, so I didn't feel bad watching them shrivel up and burn.

What's the standard size for a radio? I have an aftermarket deck (clarion or some BS, it plays MP3 CDs  ) and it fit with only moderate cussing and a bit of bloodshead. Speakers in the doors are 4". The speakers behind the doors were probably 4x6 stock. I'm not sure. Something I ment to do but never bothered. And an 87 would be a 2.5/AX5/NP231.

If you reuse the MJ spring plates, the shock mounts are already on them. And you're going to be out say, 5/8th of an inch on each side. That is, the Xj is 5/8" wider on each side. Maybe. Nobody knows for sure because we suck with tape measures. You could be lazy like Pete and extend the perches and drill a new centre hole. Your pinion angle won't be lovely like that. Actually, wait, you want to go SOA while you do this? XJs are SOA stock, MJs are SUA stock. The old spring perches will be totally useless if you aren't going SOA.

I wasn't going to say anything, but I don't have a swaybar, haven't for a long time... Doesn't handle too bad. You just have to remember you're driving a heep. Actually, it drives way better with the radius arms than it did with the stock 5-link.
-
The 10-spoke aluminum rims were 5.25BS, I think. Your's will fit. But anything larger than a LT225/75R15 will rub the LCAs at full lock. And, AFAIK, the tj 5-link is identical to the XJ/MJ one. So yeah, the control arms should be good.

And with that, the insanity has begun. Congrats on your impending financial problems.

Watch for the general rust issue, in and out of the unibody. Make sure the glass in the back of the cab is intact (it's discontinued). See if the cab leaks, it's annoying and rusts out the floors. Otherwise, if it runs, what the heck... Might want to throw it up on a lift and take a look at the unibody while you're at it. And the gas tank, they're pricey things to replace. The 2.5 will do okay in 4lo, but the rest of the time it blows. Oh, check all the doors/windows and any power options, etc and see what doesn't work. At least you can use them to bargin with, and soem of thsoe thigns can be a pain to fix. The 8.8 is a good and easy swap. You will need spacers on it, or ulta low backspacing rims, as it is a little narrow. Oh yeah, check that all the right fluids are in the right places. That can happen...

And I'm certain they aren't! But whatever. I have no basis for what I think. I know I had a good reason to think they were the same, but I'm not so sure anymore... I think it's because MJ rear flares match the profile for front flares, so I assumed that XJ rear flares would also match the profile for their front flares...
-
I need one of those, my lincoln Ac-225 is a heavy bastard. Normally I just throw it on my creeper.
-
I'm sure they fit. And thinking about it, they can be 2 or 4 door... Blah.

Magnets have been ordered! :-) Red with no bar won.
DirtyComanche replied to Pete M's topic in The Pub
How about some shirts? Magnets are cool, but you can only stick them to so many things before they get boring. I'd buy a shirt... Okay, everybody is dead set on magnets now. I know it's a little late to be saying this. -
The one I know of has some rust on the bed. Had it been the front fenders I'd have signed the check... But the bed, $#!&, where am I going to get one of those? I'll just hold off for now. Or hit the reserve and see if there's anything out there if I really get the itch. Nah, I've probably got enough to do already.

Gotta be 2dr flares for the rear.
-
And if you drive them hard, they last maybe 50K. No thanks.

Question for DirtyComanche...
DirtyComanche replied to Catatonic Comanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Rough Country has a pretty bad rep. Their name and ride quality has a corrolation. -
I considered putting another stocker on the other side. It would be a VERY tight squeeze, as you'd probably have about 2" between them, and the pump/plubing sticks out a ways. I'm not saying it's impossible, but it would be hard. Jerry cans are easy...
