Hey guys I tried installing a new head unit on my Comanche last night and could not get it to work, I checked the voltage at the harness( the one that plugs into the head unit itself) and at the radio fuse and it's at 11.89 volts on both with the engine off/ ignition switch on ACC. I also did a voltage drop from the positive battery terminal to the same locations and came up with .31 voltage drop which seems a bit too much , I was wondering if there was an easy quick way to clean up a connection or some of the connections to get more juice to my head unit so it can work ( i tested the head unit directly to the battery and it works) or if you guys had suggestions on properly bypassing the factory harness and adding a circuit so I can finally listen to some music while driving, thanks in advance :D

How about good quality replacement sensors for the Renix guys, instead of the crap that's offered by the aftermarket,,,,,, and maybe a high quality header too :dunno:

I wouldn't recommend this, you can fry electronic components very easy doing this " test "

I was wondering if the H802CP pistons could be used in an 89 4.0 with a 7120 cylinder head? the only difference I was able to see was the H802CP pistons had about a .007" taller compression distance than the correct ones listed for the 1989 4.0 engines ( part number 677AP). Reason I ask is because the H802CP pistons have a coated skirt, they're cheaper and according to the federal mogul website they are 165 grams lighter per piston/pin combo compared to the 677AP.

4.0 water pump differences question
big66440 replied to big66440's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Thanks for the heads up, do you know what problems they have? -
Hello, I'm in the market for a new water pump and was interested in the flow kooler high flow pump part number 1748 but its only listed for 91 and newer 4.0's though, is there a difference in the older Renix era water pumps? EDIT ; correct part number is 1747, my mistake.

I agree with Hornbrod, I got my steering box out of a 98ZJ this last memorial day weekend for 50%off at the pick a part and made a HUGE difference on my MJ, it gives it a much more modern feel best 30 bucks I've spent on the front suspension so far.

No Dash Lights or Tail lights
big66440 replied to TheDirtyJeep401's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Check and see if someone connected the plugs for the trailer lights by your rear bumper, I had the same exact thing happen to me. They are not supposed to be connected to each other. -

You hit the nail dead on !!! " the world is full of dip$#!&s" -
I've been running an airtex for about 3 years now with good results, I'll admit I am still a bit skeptical about it but I keep my tank at least half full ALL the time which really helps in keeping your fuel pump alive. I ran the Bosch 69302 on it for about a year till it gave out, but I will admit it was probably my fault that killed it so quickly since back then I hardly ever ran more than a 1/4 tank of gas.

How does this main bearing look?
big66440 replied to Minuit's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Looks good, you may want to replace the rear main seal while you're at it just for extra peace of mind. -
I would be stern about telling them but not an A hole I had to tell a bunch of kids to get off my 66 Dodge pick up once they were all sitting in the bed talking and chatting, after I told them all it wasn't a place to hang out they never did it again.

4.0 Head gasket differences ?
big66440 replied to big66440's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Ok I figured it out on my own, I made the mistake and misread the info provided by Fel Pro it's the same gasket from 1987 to 2001. As for the best head gasket sorry daking I wouldn't be able to answer that but I would recommend with sticking with brand name gaskets. -
Are there any differences in the actual head gasket for the 4.0? My head gasket went out and I was thinking of going with the Fel Pro 530SD ( severe duty) but it's listed for the 92 and newer 4.0's. BTW I'll be replacing my Renix head with a 7120 I have ready to be installed ( I've read about the Intake modifications required)

master cylinder/ brake booster upgrade
big66440 replied to dj5's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I beg to differ , even with all new components and rear shoes adjusted properly ( I did that on my Comanche as soon as I received it) the factory brakes leave A LOT!!! to be desired. The newer dual diaphragm booster set ups are much better than what originally came with these trucks. -
