Tan to black interior - need feedback/suggestions/etc
big66440 replied to Eric W's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I'm doing the EXACT same thing right now, my interior is tan also and I'm painting it black here's a link to the products I've been using. Ive painted a few panels already and they look very very good. I had actually never heard of them but considering they specialize in Jeeps they would " care " a little more about their customers, I completely understand parts being back ordered a few days or even mistakes in the inventory and not being able to fulfill an order but just simply not responding to e mails and even playing games when the customer ( me ) is on the line is just B.S.

AC capillary tube/ thermostat question
big66440 replied to big66440's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Do you have the part number for the one you wound up with? I really don't mind drilling it to make it work. I cannot actually drill the one I have without puncturing it, its kind of hard to explain. -

Bump? anyone?, Its evaporator four seasons part number 54614 if it helps -
Sounds like my list as well, I understand simple honest set backs since I work for an auto parts retailer and understand things can get crazy sometimes but they just simply don't seem to care and I don't care to deal with vendors like that.

I placed an order for some parts on Oct the 6th, I didn't receive a confirmation e mail so I sent an email asking for an update not once but TWICE within the past week and didn't get a response. I gave them a call this morning and was on hold for approximately 20 minutes so I hung up and called back and was able to give my information to a sales rep about my order she put me on hold for about 5-10 minutes and just simply got cut off I was PISSED OFF by then so I called back and left a voice message ( which I'm pretty sure is useless with these idiots if they can't even respond to e mails). I tried calling them again and spoke with a rep who finally told me my items were never shipped :fs1:  :headpop: and she doesn't know the reason why, she agreed to call me back but never did. I finally got an email with a USPS tracking number, I just hope the parts are here before the week end which I had already set aside to work on my truck but either way I won't be giving them any more business I can't stand chasing sellers around to find out what's going on with my parts when I chose to give them my hard earned money.

Feeling bad about how much $$ you have in your MJ?
big66440 replied to RochesterMJ's topic in The Pub
X2 on this, I am simply not interested in anything new coming out of a factory at the moment. Sure a new truck would be more comfortable etc etc etc but my MJ just " fits" I'm sure a lot of you guys know what I mean. -
I'm planning on replacing my AC evaporator along with my heater core and just noticed my new aftermarket evaporator does not have the small hole to put the capillary tube through, do you guys think i should send it back and try to get a factory one? I know Jeepair.com has them. I really need to get this done by this weekend so id really appreciate some help or personal experience with this, thanks

So you're saying if we can find post 91 ( I'm assuming) vent windows they will likely seal better?

Any ideas where this is coming from?!
big66440 replied to EnlistedManche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Check the "gasket" where your heater core and evaporator tubes pass through the firewall as well. -
How did you mount the striker? it looks really good BTW

Heater box differences, question.
big66440 replied to big66440's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I sure am I plan on insulating the firewall as well, I've been insulating with "rattletrap" and have been very pleased with the results. My plan is to have the heater box clean with my new heater core and A/C evaporator as well as having a clean and painted dash ready to be installed so I can focus as much time as possible in sealing, insulating and cleaning that area. I figured that would save me at least 4-5 hours to really focus on the firewall. -

That pretty much answers it, thank you. -

Do you guys know if the heater box itself ( black box that has A/C evaporator and heater core under the dash) is the same for all Cherokees up to 1996? I'm planning on yanking one from the JY cleaning it up and having it ready to install in my 89 Comanche, thanks.

Heater Core Question
big66440 replied to tylergrant2011's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I'm actually on the same boat as you are, I'll be overhauling my AC system as well while I'm in there. You have to remove the dashboard in order to replace the heater core, here is a link that's worth its weight in gold. From the looks of it it's not difficult just time consuming. http://www.cherokeeforum.com/f51/dash-removal-35444/ Here's another link, this is actually the way the factory shop manual says to replace it http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=931690 -
What temp does the electric fan come on?
big66440 replied to big66440's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yes it will be the primary fan, do you have any recomendations on good controllers? I remember from another thread you had/have a Spal controller would you guys know of a reputable company for one? -
Since i recently began completely overhauling my AC system I was wondering if there is a way to upgrade the system using parts off of newer XJ's or other Jeeps? I've been having a hard time finding some of the parts and if I can use parts off newer vehicles to make the replacement parts easier in the future ( I'm not getting rid of my MJ anytime soon) or to make the system work better id be really interested in going that route, thanks in advance.

Need some advice from the AC pros please.
big66440 replied to big66440's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Thank you, will do. -
I'm going to be replacing my heater core soon together with my AC evaporator, expansion valve and drier/ accumulator, I won't be able to install the rest of my system ( hoses, condenser and compressor) for about 1 1/2 to 2 months . Will my new A/C parts be ruined by the time I finish the rest of my system? I'm planning on capping off the new parts for the AC as soon as they get installed to keep moisture and debris out of there, thank you. BTW this truck is my daily driver and the A/C system that is in the truck right now is in really bad shape which is why I'm overhauling it.

I'd say it depends on what you do with your truck and your budget, I have a D35 on my 2WD DD Comanche and it's perfectly fine.
