this morning the mechanic finished up mt tranny work (just installing it), turns out its a bad transmission, 1st and 2nd don't work, 3rd and 4th work to some degree, 5th does not work and reverse does now and then.. also while in some of the gear positions the shifter can move left to right, example 2nd right to 4th. i needed to get it home so i drove it the mile to my house in third, it sounded like a bucket of bolts... can this tranny be rebuilt? or am i out of luck, again...

our 5 month old beagle puppy has been sick for the last week or so and has had several trips to the vet. today we found out that he has acute renal failure, ultrasound shows abnormal kidneys, one not even functioning. the doctor is going to keep him over the weekend on IV treatment but he may not make it. the transmission in blue was finally replaced but apparently its bad, sounds like someone dumped bolts in it.. 1st and 2nd don't work 3rd and 4th sorta work, 5th doesn't, and reverse is hit or miss.

its not a good sign when, you tell your mechanic you want to swap from a BA/10 to an AX-15, and he doubts it will work... so i tell him if he has any questions just call me. so after i get the parts needed and he is installing the internal slave he calls me saying there is a part missing and he can't work on it... well i work 20 miles away and i had to lave work early and spend 5 min with an angle grinder to fab up what he needed, again i told him if he needed anything just call me.. well about a hour before they close i called them because they should have finished my jeep by then... they stopped working on it about an hour before i called because the tranny cross member would not line up as it should, i told them i would be there in a few min. after i get there i looked at it and the rubber part of the tranny mount was backward, so i swapped it around and what do you know... it fits... we spent the last 30 min of his work day finishing up reassembling my MJ.. hopefully tomorrow morning they will put in the tranny oil in and charge my battery then i can finally get my jeep and people will stop wasting my time.... found my gear ratio tag! -
But at least you have the brain that you need to do the job, you got him beat there! :smart: yep, there is that. tomorrow when i talk to the main mechanic i will see if i get a discount for working on my own Jeep...

when i put a engine into red i was planning to do that myself, just need a key to my uncle's garage and to move my CJ-5 out to the side carport
-
i would have, but just don't have a place to do it or the tools needed.
-
I had to leave work early so I could instruct my mechanic how to properly attach a crossmember to an MJ.... guess what! the rubber mount was on backward! moron... on dad's mj things went better, i replaced the the drivers side front quarter panel, painted the front of the MJ, painted the grille, polished the Jeep letters and the Comanche emblem.

Blue88Comanche replied to jpnjim's topic in The Pub
My first MJ "Blue" was bought by my grandfather in 1988 he had it till 2008 when i got my drivers license. in the past six months i have acquired two more "red" and "black", the plan for them is to get them running for my dad and little brother. also in the last six months or so i bought a 61 CJ5 and a 89 XJ, mom got a 03 liberty. -
Dual Battery setup
Blue88Comanche replied to Blue88Comanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
that is a little pricey, but it was cool.. I think i need to hold off till my next job starts before i get that into it. -
who is running a dual battery setup? how and where is the second battery mounted in the engine bay? I think i have wiring diagram to run various dual battery setups some where.. thanks

it was a pair, V8 ZJ front coils will lift about 2 inches

Load sensing valve removal questions (Again!) :)
Blue88Comanche replied to Jerry's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
if you are going to remove the MJ prop. valve to insert the plug then might as well drop in the XJ prop. my thing is why risk it, if it is known to lock up when it shouldn't and i know the solution i would do it. -
for the front you can also go with 1997 V8 ZJ coils, i have the Moog brand variable rate and love them. it cost me about 80 bucks, but to me was worth it.

as a quick fix you can use a rivets to attach the sheet metal and J B quick weld to seal it, it won't look nice, but it will get the job done, later on it can be removed and welded on.. where you going to use carpet? if so then you should not notice it at all edit: you can also rhino line it, that will seal the top of it , i would run a bead of quick weld around the corner of the patch metal for a seal then come back around the corners of it inside and under the cab, top it off with rhino liner.

A few "floor" questions...
Blue88Comanche replied to acfortier's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
best way to clean the carpet is to remove it and take it up to a do it your self car wash with the pressure sprayers, unless you have one.. just put some simple green, purple power, or your favorite cleaner on it scrub it a little then spray with high pressure sprayer.. as for the boot, is that the one that attaches to the hump to seal the shifter hole? -
A few "floor" questions...
Blue88Comanche replied to acfortier's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
i put rhino liner on the cab floor after the carpet was pulled, no more water worries for me! I was going to use some sort of sound deadening along with the carpet and padding as well. -
i saw that a few months ago, its sweet!

engineless Jeep help
Blue88Comanche replied to Blue88Comanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
not with me but i will post one when i get home -
the other day i was pokeing around the engine bay of the XJ and my Red Comanche and noticed the engine mounts seemed to be in slightly different locations, My XJ has the 4.0 I-6 in it and the MJ is currently engine less. the P.O. said it had the I-6 in it, but the tag in the engine bay says it has a 150 cubic Inch engine. I have the transmission to what ever was last used in the bed of the MJ and I think its is the AW4. :hmm: What Transmissions automatic transmissions did the 2.5 Liter use? I am going to move all the drive train from the XJ to the MJ so i guess i can move the engine mounts over if it did have the 2.5L. I had been considering doing a 2.5 liter engine any way... any thought or suggestions?

found out that my red Comanche had a 2.5L in it instead of the 4.0L
