Black89Comanche - Dad's First Comanche
Blue88Comanche replied to Blue88Comanche's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
i will know more about the pup tonight after i get off work. today is when mom and dad where going to find out if Chaos will make it or not, so we thought it would be in my and my sister's best interest that we not know till we get home from work and school.. this way we aren't wigged out the rest of the day... I found a D44 in the JY under a Cherokee  and there are several 8.25s out there as well. I was thinking about geting one for my red MJ- 41 replies

Input on this 2" lift I'm putting together
Blue88Comanche replied to Timmmmmy's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
you can get some chevy drop shackles if you want something cheaper than leaf springs I have the Moog 1997 V8 ZJ 4x4 variable rate springs and love them! you will be happy! as for the shocks i would get the lift put together then measure what you need to get rather than getting beforehand and not get the correct size. i hear good things about the XJ LCAs that is something i plan to do in the future -

engine swap questions
Blue88Comanche replied to MenhoMJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
your 4 cyl. is not strong enough to run anything less that 4.10 easily, you might could get away with usinig the other gears but you may push the engine too much. the only issue i see is in mid 89 they started swapping over to 23 spline.. for example my old BA/10 was 21 and my new AX-15 is 23. I don't know for sure when the AW-4 was converted to 23 spline but because you AX-5 is a 94 I would make sure it has a 23 spline count. it won't hurt to count the splines on you AX-5 to make sure that is correct CAD stands for Central Axle Disconnect, basically some of the early XJs and MJs had a 3 part front axle. how it works is there is a collar that slides over the central and passenger side shaft to connect it. you can still use that type of axle but you will need to lock the CAD over.. to do it just remove the CAD housing move the collar to the locked position and reinstall the CAD housing upside down. here is a link to another writeup EDIT: as for the linkage here is another link to a writeup, however you still need the 242 shift gate as for the cad my picture is not a good one as every thing blends in.. -
for you all who are running some sort of sub woofer using RCA cables.. how on earth did you get the RCA cable run from the dash? my radio bay is packed and can't find a way to get the RCA connectors through the dash. I would like to run the RCA cable as well as the remote turn on through the passenger side or under the center console. thanks

i am assuming you have the ax-5, as long as it has 23 spline count you can use any 242 TC from 89+.. also you will need a 242 shifter gate/ handle. will need the shifter linkage for the ax5 from a MJ or XJ. for the speedometer just remove the electronic sender if you get a 91+ and use your original cable setup the front axle can be any XJ or MJ D30 but look for 90+ axle without the CAD the ax5 should fit in the trans tunnel however the IIRC the tc will be clocked differently than a MJ or XJ. as far as gears go i can't really help just know that most 4 cyl. come with as least 4.10 sets -
more or less by my self, mom helps with what she can. i jacked up all 4 tires, started the MJ and put in first just to listen to the drive train, also turned the wheel to the far left and right, it didn't make any odd sounds. turned it off and checked everything again, all the joins are good. this started after the new tranny and TC was put in, the old setup was fine, till the BA10 went out.. now i have a AX-15 from a 89 MJ and a 242 TC from a 94 XJ

Will these axles work?
Blue88Comanche replied to pitbull4x4's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Look for a 94 Cherokee donor........everything you need is there.......including the external slave bell housing. Will come with the 4.11 - 4.10 gears. Typically the 2 door variety. also you will need a shorter rear drive shaft, one from a cherokee will not fit. if you use the cherokee rear axle you will need to move the spring perches. make sure the crank position sensor an the bell-housing it in the same spot as the old one. 94 transfer case will have the electronic speed sending unit in it, just remove it and use your old cable setup. now would also be a good time to change your lower control arms to ones from a WJ. viewtopic.php?f=2&t=32508 -

washed, and waxed blue. apparently when a MJ sits in the sun for 10 months with out being washed and waxed when you get around to doing it, it turns your waxing rags blue? wired in fog lamp harness and hooked in the "city" lights till i get some fogs. locked the cad over. checked all the u joints, and still can't find that grinding sound when i turn.
-
I jacked up the Jeep and turned the wheels checking them the joints arent loose. before i took the jeep to the shop i was not having any problems but i had the factory ba/10 and np231. could the np242 tc be whats making that sound? it only does that when i am in a turn.

just checked the u joints, they seem to be fine

cleaning small parts
Blue88Comanche replied to Blue88Comanche's topic in MJ Tech: DIY Projects and Write-Ups
sorry forgot to take before and after pics, already have the wiring in the MJ. it does work by it self to some degree, there was a good amount of dirt in the bottom of the pot. still need to use a small brush to clean some of the heavy stuff, but it does do pretty good for what it is. -
on the driveshaft or the axle it self?
-
and both diffs are open diffs.

i got my MJ back the other day and fixed the shifting problem (the shifter it self was damaged) but there is a ratcheting sound when i make turns and it sounds awful. when i go straight it sounds ok. i have a ax15 tranny and a np242 tc. i had the tc in 2wd, with the cad not locked over to start with, then i locked the cad and still made the sounds, last try i put the tc in 4wd full time and it still made that sound. as far as i can tell the tc was working before it was installed (when i turned the input it worked properly at the various settings.

Motion vs Rusty's coil springs
Blue88Comanche replied to JeepNewb's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
What's bad about rusty's offroad? I have a cross member from them for my ax-15, it seems well made and lined up perfectly. Also had fast shipping. Then again that could have been a fluke because the eBay store I bought my "ax-15 wana bees" mounts had a good rateing but shipped the wrong part twice! -
