Bilsteins for stock height
acfortier replied to acfortier's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Bilstein doesn't seem to list a shock for the Cherokee unless it's lifted, unfortunately. -
Vinyl Flooring Instead Of Carpet?
acfortier replied to JWheeler331's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I want to go with a vinyl floor, but was hoping to find an OEM one for fitment purposes. But, honestly, not sure if I'll be able to find one that isn't ruined. Picked up a parts truck, but the drivers side was ripped from the rusted floor boards. -
Trying to figure out Bilstein part #s for my Comanche, at stock height. No plans to lift it. For the front, it seems that OEM something like: * Compressed - 13.25" * Extended - 21.125" * Travel - 7.875" * Stem/Bar Pin mount Using the Bilstein chart, it comes down to these two: * https://www.shockwarehouse.com/site/product.cfm/id/613285/name/Bilstein-B8-5100-Shock-Absorber-Chevrolet-Silverado-1500-Ford-F-150-Front-24-236942 * https://www.shockwarehouse.com/site/product.cfm/id/504177/name/Bilstein-24-293099-Front-B8-5100-Lifted-Shock-Absorber-Jeep-Wrangler I'm not really sure how a shock made for a lifted 6" F150 will be the same as the shock for a TJ, but I'm leaning towards the TJ shock. For the rear, I think this one is closely lined up with OEM specs: * https://www.shockwarehouse.com/site/product.cfm?id=1524028 Would any of this change if I plan to throw in a D44 + MT leafs?

Removing black coating from windshield trim
acfortier replied to fiatslug87's topic in MJ Tech: DIY Projects and Write-Ups
Going to have to try this! Mine are flaking off, they've seen better days. Maybe plasti-dip them afterwards to bring them back to black? -
Dash VIN Plate Migration
acfortier replied to ExpatMJGuy's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I completely forgot to do this when I swapped my dash... ugh. I guess it doesn't matter for MA inspection, they didn't say anything. -
(What appear to be) OEM roll bars CHEAP.
acfortier replied to strictlyxjs's topic in Craigslist/eBay... i.e. Not Your Stuff
I wonder if I could fit it in the back of my JLU. Might have to borrow my stepdads truck… -

How confident are folks that these are def. OEM roll bars? I may make the drive to pick up one or both of them. -

I'm extremely tempted... 4 hours one way to PA, 4.5 hours one way to NY... -
Just a tad too far for me, too... Did they really cover up the cargo box lamp? That seems like a poor design.

Are they for SWB or LWB?

You're halfway there!

I wish I could find a set of NOS caps.

Let’s discuss taillights
acfortier replied to ghetdjc320's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
It honestly seems a bit silly that they would just reproduce the lens if the lens and housing are fused together in that manner. I haven't looked, did they release instructions on how one is supposed to replace their lens? -
Is it possible to save these armrests?
acfortier replied to 87Warrior's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I used Simple Green on all of my interior panels. Actually, now that I think of it, not sure if bamboo is rougher than nylon? Either way, I was satisfied with the outcome and don't think they were scratched/damaged afterwards. But a toothbrush (or something large that has soft bristles) would definitely be the way to go. -

I used a bamboo scrub brush and it seemed to work well without damaging it. -
I think in 86 there was either the AX-4 or AX-5 behind the 2.8L, once the 4.0 was introduced it got the BA 10/5 until 89 when they switched over to the AX-15?

Crown replacement grille quality?
acfortier replied to scguy's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Crown, for the most part, uses the OEM part numbers for their parts. -

Well, drove it ~50 miles yesterday and didn't have any issues whatsoever. Hoping that it was the ASD relay all along. -

Tailgate looks to be in good shape. Haven't had the chance to take it off the trailer yet or pictures. But you'll have first dibs on it. Seemed in decent shape, I'll take some pictures when I can -

Comanche - $200 East Longmeadow, MA
acfortier replied to NHMJXJ's topic in Craigslist/eBay... i.e. Not Your Stuff
Just picked it up today. Pretty rough shape, will probably keep a few things, and part out the rest. -
Not mine yet, haven't looked at it, probably won't have time until this weekend. Has someone else looking at it today/tomorrow. My plan would be to use it as a parts truck for my current rig.
