Following the thread here: https://comancheclub.com/topic/50780-ac-r12-to-r12a-refrigerant-recharge-results/ I'm a bit confused as to how I can measure the pressure--the kit I ordered did not have a gauge inline: https://www.frostycool.com/frostycool-12a-recharge-kit-2x-cans-12a-charging-hose-low-side-adapter/ Do I just buy a charge hose with a gauge instead? The fitting used for the R12 to R12a adapter is a large-looking air hose fitting.

Replacement Door Lock Cylinder Gaskets?
acfortier replied to acfortier's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Actually, think I found it: https://www.quadratec.com/products/55014_34.htm I think this part no. cross references the OMIX one that you can't get anymore. -
Cluster swap from '96 to '91
acfortier replied to acfortier's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Well, I don't think I'm going to swap them. The new cluster has a different setup than the old one. You can see the difference in the two speedometers: -
Yeah, hopefully. I did check this morning after raining all night, and it looks like the grommet for the hood release (?) cable was weeping it a bit.

Cluster swap from '96 to '91
acfortier replied to acfortier's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yeah, I think I might just do that. Wasn't too hard to get the cylinder out of the first one, and I think it'll stay in place once it goes back in. I tried, but didn't want to force/break it. -

Cluster swap from '96 to '91
acfortier replied to acfortier's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yeah, I tried to rotate some of the numbers manually and they didn't seem like they wanted to budge. I'll give it a shot again, but didn't want to break it. Or, I guess I could rip out the other odometer and plop it into this one. -
Cluster swap from '96 to '91
acfortier replied to acfortier's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I got the whole cylinder removed, but there isn't a way to move the individual numbers--it's like there's some internal mechanism that's holding them in their proper place. At least I can spin it a lot faster? -
Cluster swap from '96 to '91
acfortier replied to acfortier's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yeah, I can see that it's held in with some plastic tabs over the small metal rod that runs through the cylinder. Didn't know if I want to try to cut through/break that to get the cylinder out... -
Cluster swap from '96 to '91

I thought about the natural return position, but I wasn't sure if that was stopping because of the rubber piece that stops the needle. If the needle isn't there to stop it, it may keep going? -
Cluster swap from '96 to '91

If you want to, up to you. I think the only way to recalibrate the speedo if the needle is removed would be to use a GPS app on my phone and put the needle back where it should be... which doesn't sound like fun. I'm not sure if that really matters in terms of the gauge cluster. -
I had to replace that completely, since the hazards wouldn't stay on, so it's nice and new and shiny

Thanks! Ordering one now.

As I was taking apart my steering column to fix the turn signal switch, I think the horn contact portion in the cancelling cam exploded on me, and I can't seem to find the spring that was in there. Also looks like buying a new cancelling cam doesn't include the stuff for the horn contact. Would this be proper repair kit? https://www.dormanproducts.com/p-5975-83230.aspx

Cluster swap from '96 to '91
acfortier replied to acfortier's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The real question is, how can I swap in the new odometer (which reads 186xxx) to match what is currently on my odometer (231xxx) without spinning it by hand, which will probably take me hours, lol. Might just have to keep the old speedo with it's yellowish needle. -
Cluster swap from '96 to '91
acfortier replied to acfortier's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
That's what I'm thinking, too... couple other Google searches confirmed the same. -
Is this a direct swap? Are there any changes in the individual gauges from '91 to '96 that would make them inoperable? I broke the needle on my gas gauge and got a cluster from a '96 XJ in the junkyard, but the needles on the '96 are whiter than those on my '91, so thought about swapping everything over. Tach should work, since it came from a 4.0... I would think everything else would work? Would the speedo be off?

Yep

I can snap a picture tomorrow of how mine sits in the door. But the black rubber part should be in the bottom channel of the door.

My hazard lights don't stay on if I depress the button--it pops back out. Is this a part of the multifunction switch in the column?

Gotcha! I'll check the oil in the compressor and then try to charge it up. I'm still undecided about the mirrors. I have an order with Quadratec in, so not sure when they'll be back in stock, but there's no real rush--not driving the Comanche yet. I remember doing the upgrade on my previous Comanche, and it was a night and day difference. I haven't driven this one enough to comment on it's current braking power, but I figured why not--it's easy enough to swap out. Picked up an Addco 543 kit for a ZJ for $80, brand new. The bushings are currently shot on the Comanche now, so I figured swapping it out for something beefier made more sense. We've been getting some decent rain today, and I decided to go check out the Comanche to see if I can find where the rest of the leak is coming from. Unfortunately, I haven't pinpointed exactly where it's coming from, but it's definitely wet behind that large piece of foam backing, so I'll have to remove that to get a better look. Not sure what that entails, as it seems fairly intertwined with other components.

Didn't know this existed! I like the Retro ones. Not sure if I'd want black or white... Definitely going to order some though. Thanks!

Addco 468 correct? -
I wish I could get a full blue cluster for 91... the red cluster just doesn't feel like it belongs.
