1986 Comanche Break Replacement
danbyrambler replied to tsa256's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Hello everyone, I have recently inherited a 1986 Jeep Comanche for my 16th birthday, but it has a few problems. Happy birthday! Wish I'd been able to start out with something nice as an MJ when I turned 16 - - - Anyway, Have a reputable shop look at your brake lines - Most your age & many a lot older have never experienced sudden loss of brakes - Usually no warning - It isn't good - - All to common on older vehicles after rebuild/replace of calipers/cylinders/master cylinder & such - - - - - Ask for LOADED rebuilt calipers if you go that way - means ready to bolt on in most cases - ask anyway JIC  -
You think so? If I'm a seller and after some potential buyer inspects the vehicle, decides he wants it, then says "Oh, I have to go check with the wife, relative, or whatever" because he's not prepared to buy, I wouldn't be happy. Don't waste my time. Read again - - - -"Regardless of weather you're the buyer or the seller - You 1st have to sell yourself" - - - Advice for buyers AND sellers where/when negotiation is likely - - - - And the rest was for a buyer only - - - "If an impasse is reached . . . " - - - Maybe this was a little vague - - Means haggling at a standstill - - Use the "Let me check" ploy to see if seller will budge/show int in continuing - If "NO" then whatever you think - - - Leaving name/number best/final offer, always - Falling on ground sobbing-Revealing secret society tatoo or Lets go get a beer, maybe - - - - - - - - - FWIW - Had a thriving Electronics store for a few - Sometimes wish hadn't sold it- Anyway, learned a little from my partner - He could sell - A good salesman knows how to deal with tire kickers & doesn't get all offended - time wasted only if you learn nothing - part of the game - get over it - whine about something you can change - - - It's on you If you perceive the buyer is sincere & they walk - -Some of his adv to me - - - Nuff said, Sell yourself 1st & learn how to close - - - - - - - - - Harold Hill is a good study, LOL - - Opportunity-Persuasion-Integrity - -BEST & WORST all in one.

FWIW - Regardless of weather you're the buyer or the seller - You 1st have to sell yourself - - Doesn't hurt to let a seller know you love the truck - Just don't pi$$ 'em off by pointing to every little flaw - Don't quote KBB/other prices - No need to prove your knowledge of what's wrong/could go wrong - The seller prob knows all of these things & if they don't it's gonna be harder to come of as a good guy, plus they'll react like all of us upon hearing bad/unwelcome news - - - - Sell yourself 1st & get them inna good mood selling the truck to you - - Do not show up in anything flashy/expensive - Leave the Rolex at home - - When the price comes up be honest or semi honest - Just tell 'em you want it, it's probably worth it but you don't have that much $ - - If they move, fine, you've started off correctly - if an impasse is reached just cover your tracks by saying something like let me ck with wife/friend/relative & see if I can come up with a little more, then yes/no & it'll be time for the big decision - - - - - Just the more flys with honey thing - - - - - - - - - - Nice looking MJ - - Hope the seller isn't following this thread - - Good luck

OK - U did the lift - good, one less consideration - - - Pic of dif & front DS no apply since 4mm was added after - New pic showing pinion angle would help - - - U may be finished as far as the caster thing goes - - - Pinion angle should now be close to zero, esp since WJ LCA are 16" IIRC & shims have been added to boot - - - Trucks looking good - - The 31s make the wheel well position look a little skewed to the rear but that's another issue U can tackle after you're satisfied with caster. -

Don't know, but to me your truck looks a little taller than a 2" lift - - Did U do the work? - - - Tires too close to back of wheel well? Pic of front DS looks to me like dif pinion is a little high - - Longer LCAs will help with both - - - Know it's all over, but here 'tis again Control Arm Length Chart Lift...........LCA UCA Stock ......15.75.......15 ¾........15.00.......15 2”.............15.92.......16........... 14.88.......15 3”............ 16.09.......16.......... .14.92.......15 4”.............16.33.......16 3/8......15.03.......15 4.5” .........16.47.......16 ½........15.11.......15 5”.............16.62.......16 5/8......15.21.......15 ¼ 6” ............16.97.......17........ ..15.44.......15 ½ 7”.............17.36.......17 3/8......15.74.......15 ¾ 8”.............17.81.......17 ¾........16.09.......16 9”.............18.30.......18 ¼........16.50.......16 ½ 10” ..........18.82...... 18 ¾........16.96.......17 -

It is in one form r another here/NAXJA/Pirate/JF - Forgot where I copied from - - - There's some wiggle/adjust room to be had with the LCA shims also - DK what tires you're running - You're prob gonna be able set pinion straight with DS with watcha got & Casters gonna be OK - DonH's got good info on checking that here on CC somewhere - Same for Toe - Toe is simplicity with anothers help, tape measure & couple straight edges like carpenters levels - - - I came up with a TB adjust/drop bracket from some where - for 3 to 5" lift - - - Yours 4 postage if you need it - - - Might want to ck the sway bar links as well - - - I'm not a suspension expert - - Just learned a few working on my stuff & taking advantage of the knowledge/opinions here - -

Running Too Cool - Why?
danbyrambler replied to ParadiseMJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Good heater output pretty much normal run time? - - My 87 4.0 TG always read a little onna low side & more so in winter - - Low 20s is starting to get with it tho - should be able to see TG needle move a little as TS opens/closes/operates whatever - - Had a Triumph Spitfire once & did the cardboard thing when it got down there - TG pointer swung like a clock pendulum almost - - - Lazer temp readers are neat tools - - Will be able to do a fast & dirty under hood ck with one - - -
Sounds like you know how to swing a hammer - Big perlins for the size/structure - Roof also? Up here this close to Arkansas they're PURLINS - LOL

Well . . . FWIW . . Do U know who you're gonna buy the concrete from? What bag mix U plan on? The supplier will have a pretty good idea of intended use just from the size of the order & knows an analysis isn't likely - - There's a really good chance you're gonna get 5 bag mix regardless of what U specify - Fiber? - - Meant to combat shrinkage cracks IIRC - mostly for outdoor apps & same as bag mix- probably won't happen regardless, except in the $s U pay - - Speaking from Family business exper - Mobile home/Trailer pads - Shame a guys gotta watch everything - - - - You probably know the rest, but JIC - - Gonna continue with Pole Barn type construction? - footing rebar's overkill if so - - now's the time to set the poles or make the footing deeper where they're gonna be - - don't know your soil type but I'd use pole pads anyway if poles are going in ground - Floor mesh 4 sure & rebar in footing where an overhead/vehicle door might go, but really, for the size of it, the $ savings won't be huge to not reinforce everything - Also time for termite treatment under the pour - Line everything with plastic before pour & cover with plastic afterwards & keep wet at least 5 days - - - Truck gonna be able to get along side the pour? Dragging that stuff's no fun - - - Just reread this & not all concrete guys are cheats - same as used car guys - Just enough of 'em, ya know? Anyway, Looking good, keep the pics coming, especially 1 of the day when it's all done & you're standing in the middle of it thinking "All right! Look at all this room!" - Should bring a smile when U're planning the next one.

Noob Here W/an 87 Comanche
danbyrambler replied to 54bobby's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Couple - - There's a RPM/TIRE SIZE/RATIO Calculator or 2 here on CC - Search is a neat tool or just google it - tons of 'em - - - Assuming your dif does have 410/456s just reach under the truck & mark the side of the drive shaft - move MJ fwd r back one tire rev & look at ds again - 410 if U still see the mark - if 456 it'll be onna other side  -
Pretty much so - - - On my 89 MJ the light unit snaps in & fits tightly - No visible gap - looks nice - when turned on a hairline crack shows at the top - really not noticeable except to a nit picker like me - - I'd try sans bezel 1st to see what's what - - - - I put these in my 87 as well & used the bezel - No biggie except you gotta twist around in the seat a little to use whatever you cut with - - also, it's kinda hard to service after the bezel is installed - I swapped in LED bulbs after awhile & found that everything fits TIGHT, I mean the lights fit the bezel tightly - Good stuff - gotta be careful removing - - - - Also made some jumpers using 18g to make things a little easier - - Male spade end(shown) has to be narrowed slightly to fit MJ plug & then Pink to A - Blk/W to B & Blk to C - - - Pic of installed looks skewed because of camera angle & spot of light is from the flash
