I think the best way would be to install them and run the engine.

San Diego "Street Comanche" now at $2200
MJCARENA replied to MJRemi's topic in Craigslist/eBay... i.e. Not Your Stuff
Thats tempting. Don't think I could talk the wife into another vehicle. :( Hope it goes to someone that will appreciate it for what it is and not hack it up. -
Its for the heater control for the vent doors and cruise control.

Gearing depends on the size tires. Rule of thumb in my other jeep club is 4.56 is good for 33 inch tires, 4.88 for 35 inch tires. You start going bigger then 35 and you might want to change out your axles. Some say that the front Dana 30 is good up to 35's. 37's if you are easy on the throttle and go with chromolly axle shafts. On my XJ wagoneer I have 33's with 4.56 and lockrights, dana 30 front dana44 rear. The lockrights work good for me. Gets me thru the rocks ok. I have the 242 and no problems with it. It all depends on what kind of wheeling you are going to do. Research on line about lockers and gears on here and other jeep sites. Post up some photos.

The book says for automatic to do the adjustment using the four pin square connector. That is why the voltage reading difference. Just do the adjustment like the book says for the manual trans using the flat connector and you should be fine. I adjusted mine with an automatic trans by the book and on both my XJ and MJ and did not like the way they idled, did the adjustment procedure for the manual trans and they idle great and no problems driving.

Welcome. Diamond plate on the floor sounds like alot of work to get it to fit right, but might look pretty cool. Could try the vinyl dye stuff to change colors of the dash, have never used the stuff myself. Have any pictures of the truck.

'86 in Arlington TX $1900
MJCARENA replied to Dave Stark's topic in Craigslist/eBay... i.e. Not Your Stuff
As the price gets lower and how long he owned it gets lower also. :huh???: -
Hi. I would at least go with 4.56 gears minimum with 35 inch tires. I have 33's with 4.56 on my XJ and it is just about right. Check out this link for gear calculations. You can do side by side comparisons of different ratios. Enter stock values and then what you are going to. Your comanche is looking good. http://www.grimmjeeper.com/gears.html

Good looking tires, great price. Will have to check them out next time I need tires. -
This is what I did to my XJ. Works good and have not had any issues with water/rain. Best part was it didn't cost nothing but time. I borrowed the punch tool from an electrician friend. The holes are 1 3/4 inches across. The hardest part was making the template to space out the holes.

I have a lock right in my XJ and it clicks around corners unless you apply some throttle then it squeals a tire. The first turn after you install it usually pops pretty good then it clicks from there. I think yours was put in wrong. There is a gap between the the parts (can't think of the name right now) that has to be within specs, so they can seperate while going around corners. If the gap is to small it won't be able to unlock , if to big it won't lock correctly. I would take it back and have them fix it.

Welcome, I am pretty new myself. Why put a small chevy in, when you already have a 5.0? :smart: I think you meant a 4.0 -
I was wondering if you got a chance to check out the dome/map lights.
-
I am interested in the dome/map lights. What shape are they in, chrome condition and the retaining tabs intact. Thanks
-
That really sucks, sorry to hear this. Thanks for letting us know to remind us. I have had stuff stolen from my yard and it really gets to you. :fs1:
-
You only had it for around 4 months, Just getting the bugs out of an old vehicle. I wonder if the new owner will have any problems, since he drove it away. It takes a certian type of person to take an older vehicle and get it in shape. I have never owned a new vehicle and the newest I do have is my 89 XJ Wagoneer. I hope you the best with your future vehicles.

The black plastic end just snaps on. Push it to the right according to the picture, or otherwise away from the cable. -
That's funny, but true. :rotf:

Replaced the starter. Took it to Lowes to get roofing stuff and when I went to go back for some 2x4's it wouldn't crank over. :( Banged on the starter and it started right up. Used my other truck and got a new starter and the 2x4's. At least it broke at the house. The wife said that the MJ doesn't like to have to do any work. She called it a princess.

Looks great, love the yellow and black .

Looks cool, You should hook up the tail lights through a hazard flasher, so they flash on and off.
