  2. Google a pic of the AW4 and compare. The drivetrain form a 4x4 XJ/MJ is probably what is used for this conversion 99% of the time but if they wished to do some electrical swapping it could be from a donor YJ/TJ/ZJ and could be one of several different automatics. All used the 4.0 engine and 231 transfer case like the XJ/MJ but the tranny between them changed.
  3. That over pass is 1.5 miles from my house and I cross it multiple times weekly. That little dirt bag spent months in the hospital but survived. He had just gotten out of jail after being released following his latest arrest and was driving home at Mach 7 while passing people in the inner break-down lane.when he came past one of our local officers ( whom I also happen to know), apparently crapped himself, and lost control. He is a "poor little rich kid" whose mumzie and daddy had always bought his way out of trouble but this time he about "bought it" on his own...That video link posted will not play for me but if you look closely at this you can see him flying across the road after he was ejected. The car slamming on the brakes on the right almost runs over him. All of his cars from now on will have a wheelchair lift....
  4. So let's see some pics of it in action....
  5. I'll go one further: Please try to support :LOCAL places, from eateries to parts places, whenever possible. You neighbor who owns a local grocery needs your help more than Wallyworld does.
  6. Rust Prevention Advice Needed + Location: Larwill, Indiana = Best advice? Move...
  7. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pegaso_Z-102 Pretty neat
  8. What a reliable source, what with that ultra rare 3-speed AW4...
  9. I have seen some really nice work down with the newer "glue" they have to mate body panels. It takes a special tool to recess the original panel & then you slather the adhesive on the new panel and then put the new panel in the recess. Fits like a glove and takes much less filler to smooth over than most people have to use after welding panels together.
  10. In my little town are 3 Vipers, Maserati Quattroporte and a GT owned by the same family, 2 Bentley Continental GT's ( same color on the same road!!), a Lambo Murcielago, a Saleen S7, more Porsche's than you can shack a stick at and the granddaddy of them all: a Mercedes/McLaren SLR. Me? I have a Sonic, an MJ, and a CJ7.... I expect to be asked to move any day now...
  11. This. He refers to using the MJ "unibody" in the back instead of correctly calling it a sub-frame. Little things like this may mean nothing our may indicate a total hack job.
  12. Put it back in the Caravan where it belongs and punt? A failed governor pressure sensor and transducer is a commonly reported problem with those trannies. I was told that this and/or a failed PCM will often not show codes???? What to do about it is something that I don't know.

    Gentleman?

At least make sure he has had all of his shots before he goes...

    Gentleman?

    You is famous
  16. This rig has come up before but why on earth would you go through all of that work and leave that junk D35 under the back? Gives me pause as to what else was half-a$$ed. That being said if I had an extra $4k laying around I would be sorely tempted. I would need to see how cobbled together it was in person. For instance: no interior shots.
  17. Check over on pirate especially for PORC. That guy is lucky to still be breathing.
  18. The other issue is the Renix. It may be cheaper in the long run to buy a complete OBD 4.0/AW4/231 junk rig to get all of the wiring and all. I ran & 'wheeled my '88 with that same 21-spline tranny and didn't hurt it.
  19. They may have one of the worst customer service reps out there. I know of a guy that they screwed a guy out of $1,200 and countless such stories. Rocky Road, the now apparently defunct Motion, and the various forms of Performance Off Road Center ( PORC & cheapoffroadpart/cheap4xrparts on ebay) are on the top of the low-life scum bag rip off artist list. Sure places like Rough Country have terrible customer service, but these guys go further into the realm of being crooks.
  20. 235/85/16 is a nice tall/narrow tire size that works out to about 32x9.5. Nokians rock. I have also had Trxus M/T's in the winter. Nice tire but pricey. Had winterforces on the ol' minivan and they worked very well on icy & snow covered roads in that app. Never had it out in more than 3"-4" though...that's what the jeeps were for! Nothing like the basic super swamper mud tread design is worth anything unless you are in mud-like snow. Hard packed slick snow or ice makes renders them pretty useless from my experience. If ALL you see is very deep snow they may be a good option. Treadwright has a great reputation and the offer a cheaper version of the greendiamond concept called kedge grip. great reviews. www.treadwright.com
  21. Common misconception. I have read more than once that the KK was 5x5. But having checked personally they are 5x4.5.
  22. 4" lift with 32x11.5x15 tires on factory Gambler rims. No rubbing or trimming need and it was used fairly hard off-road.
  23. Welded axles on a street car are probably not a great idea. The chew up tires pretty well and if you are starting off with a low-tread street tire anyway....
  24. Many folks prefer the last few years of the MJ to get the H.O./ OBD injection system and to avoid the CAD front axle. The laters also have a higher (stronger) spline count in the auto tranny and they avoid the Peugeot sticks. Looking for a '90-newer would get you most if not all of these attributes. That being said I loved my '88 and miss it to this day. The 4.0L/AW4 auto combo is good for several hundred thousand miles so don't be afraid of a truck because it is well north of 100K. You are very stingy with your profile info. Location is always helpful. Rust is going to be an issue in most parts of the country but especially in the Rust Belt like the Great Lakes region. Rocker panels and floor boards are common areas.
  25. What...A re-bodied Dodge Caliber isn't your idea of a trail rig? That is exactly what the Compass/Patriot twins are... A few years ago an old neighbor of mine was bashing the Compass and bragging on his newly purchased Patriot.... :rotf:
