Rain/Water Leak Suggestions
70barracuda replied to CGCWO's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I had 2 water leaks from that area. One was the hood release cable. It was getting wet underneath the hood and traveled down the cable, through the grommet, and into the cab and hit a wire and traveled across till it dropped....that was a fun one to find. The other was the seam of the firewall right next to the clutch master. But again the water followed a wire and then dropped like 6 inches away. I had someone hold a hose on the windshield and let the water run down it like in the rain while I was underneath the dash watching. -
So redid most the wiring under the hood including ground cleanup and now it works fine??? The amp wire runs by what I cleaned up. Maybe I was getting excessive interference?

I wish somebody made a modern vintage looking cassette head unit. Even though I bought this one NOS it's still 30 years old. Modern units just don't fit the aesthetic

Having an issue with my sound system. It's a pioneer headunit, 4 pioneer speakers (only doors are run through amp), and a pioneer amplifier. Put it in last summer and it worked great. Now all of sudden it's acting wierd. On radio, when I turn the volume up it will cut out and I won't be able to get it back until I lower the volume. Also sounds real staticy and not great. When playing a cassette tape it's clear as day and I can go as loud as possible. I'm thinking maybe an issue with the antenna or coax? Maybe a ground issue?

I went with the 3.19. I found 3.2 on a couple websites. 3.125 only once. Thanks.

Does anyone know the width of the front leaf spring bushing? I've found 3.19 in and 3.125 in. Need to know exact if anyone has an idea.

Removing black vinyl from outside window ttim

I used a propane torch to get mine off. Just burnt it off and then polished and it looked great. Just don't breath the smoke in... -

Have the nicer quartz clock out of an 86 and want to put it in my 88. 86 had blue connector with 5 wires, 88 had black connector with 4 wires. Found the gojeep page about the clocks and wiring diagrams and it seems I really only need to connect Red, blue, and ground to make it work. I don't need the dim function. Anyone do this swap? Just want to make sure I'm correct in the wires.

The first 2 pictures are mine now. Then the last picture is all I can find for replacements. Nothing with the correct speedometer connector and nut on the same cable.
-
Speedo cable has started leaking. It's the original factory one. One end is the plastic connector, but the one without the tab, and the other end is a nut. Haven't been able to find what I need between the 2 ends. I see some of the replacements have a serrated connector on the trans side, not a nut. Are they the same thread and size? Factory is 4 cylinder ax4 2wd. Now it's v8 and tremec trans but the factory cable worked great.

I'll be there! What's the word this year for a meetup? Last year was pretty fun.

This weather will just not break here. Laundry list of stuff to do and it's crummy and cold out way too much still. Managed to get some work done. Chrome bumper from the 86 I junked cleaned up nicely while matching the patina. New chrome mirrors and chrome door handles. Also got the new tail light lenses on and installed. Soooo much better than my faded out ones. Added some rear louvers for that 80s look goodness. Currently redoing my oil cooler set up and installed a better fitting pan. -10an all around, thermostat for the oil so it'll reach operating temp and maintain it, and just an all around better setup. I'll get some pics when that's done. Cam will be going in soon along with getting the heads redone. Aluminum flywheel and a fancier clutch will follow. I was hoping to have this almost done by now but this weather just won't cooperate.

So because of my aftermarket steering wheel the horn button no longer works. In NJ a horn is needed so I wanna hook up a switch to a factory spot. Does anyone know if the wiper switch or defroster switch from a Cherokee work like a momentary? I know on the newer Cherokee the switches have a momentary push function for the rear sprayer. Just seeing if the older style switch is the same.

I have a set in decent shape

I'm sure with some light metal work it could be made to fit really nice. My truck is by no means nice body wise so I didnt care about gaps. Whats nice though is the mounting holes on the bumper line up perfectly with 2 holes in the bed so no drilling or cutting to make it fit. Just bolted right on.

not custom. its for a 82 to 93 s10 off ebay. I paid like $100 for it and it lines up well enough.

Ended up going with no trim at all. Only had 2 left on eBay so didn't want to miss out.

Hmm been a while since I had all red. Maybe it'll look better with new lenses? I originally did black lines to break up the back end a bit. And it's either a dakota or S10, I forget but can find out. Ah that makes the decision a bit easier. I thought they were shiny chrome.
