LS swap guys! Need some input!
70barracuda replied to krustyballer16's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I have the terminator x on my swap. Absolutely great system. Super easy to wire in, took 10 minutes to program, and it fired up almost instantly the first time it ran. It's self learning so the more you drive the better it gets. Plus the software for custom tuning is free. I havent dabbled in that yet, the self tune is very good so far. It also has options for power adders so turbo-ing is simple in that respect. I gutted everything to do with factory engine management except the fuel pump and alternator. Those 2 are the only things I tapped into. Terminator x has its own fuel pump output wire so you can do that, but I just kept the factory pump signal with key on. The LS alternators are 1 wire "on". Just hook that up to the factory "on" wire. It's all in the same plug on the factory harness. All lights, dash, and factory accessories are still on factory harness. The terminator has a couple options for what style LS you have (truck, car, reluctor wheel, etc) I did cable actuated throttle body. I didn't want to mess with a new pedal and I like the feeling of an actual cable. I am very glad I dropped the coin on the terminator. I researched A TON on all different engine management stuff and I always came back to the terminator x. You're going with an auto so you can get the xmax for transmission controls. It has so many features and outputs to control fans and other stuff and the "dash" is very awesome. It's alot of spaghetti when you lay it out but it's all labled and everything is in the right spot. My ONLY complaint is that because it's meant for really any vehicle there is a lot of extra wiring to hide. But I just looked it under the dash. I completely hid the ecu behind the lower dash trim and all the wires are hidden under the dash. Highly recommend it. -
Got the driver side in. Had to re-engineer the whole bracket. Because the trans tunnel is so large and the brackets sit so wide I had to chop the seat slider bracket and shorten it so clear the hump. Then welded is all back and plated it for strength. Then had to make a new mount on the bottom of the seat for the modified brackets. All in all it was super hard, just a lot of cutting welding and test fitting. But it came out so good and the seats are awesome.

Finally able to work on the seats. Got the passenger side done. The brackets sit super wide on these so making them fit is a challenge. I used krustyballer's brackets as a base and the procar brackets on top. Driver will definitely be alot harder. The trans tunnel is so wide on that side. But passenger is in and fits pretty good. The seat is a tad wobbly so I may need to beef up the whole mount system. But it's in and looks great.

Finally warm enough to really wrench on this again. Upgrades the rocker trunnions to solid bronze bushing from CHE. really really nice stuff. I wanted to completely get away from needle bearings. Took a long time one by one but it was simple. Also got the new ls6 intake and new holley fuel rails on. Oh and the sweet holley valve covers.

I just did the a 5.3 ax15 swap. Got it driving last year. I have no experience with an auto but the manual swap was not bad at all. The only issue I had is the clutch is a little finicky setting up but once dialed in it's good. You can see my build thread for a lot of info and pictures. It can get pricey but there are ways to get cheaper but "still work" parts. I'm actually upgrading my transmission because I'm gonna be making a lot more power so I'll have the whole ax15 swap kit for sale soon. It's all novak parts.

The refurbs are around $500 lol. And yeah I'm prepared for the rebuild and tightening screws. I redid mine and it wasn't hard at all. Yes definitely. I'll pm you

What's the going rate on these? Ebay has a ton but they are like $300+. Seems super high to me.

That's not bad at all actually.

Looking for a good tilt column for my 88. Color doesn't matter as long as it's in good shape. Thanks.

That's pretty much where I have mine situated and my temps are really good when moving. I also made a little shield and wrapped the tube in heat tape. Making it work with how little room we have between the radiator and throttle body is tough. You definitely got a lot more going on in the engine bay tho. Lol -

I don't know about cherokee belts but these are pretty much a bolt in brand new replacement. All you gotta do is enlarge the bolt hole on the retractor. That's it. Fit perfectly behind all the trim and look great. https://www.seatbeltsplus.com/category/3-Point-Retractable-Seat-Belts.html -
Been a while since an update. Finally getting nice out here so it's time to get the manche back out and running. I plan to de-winterize it this week. In the meantime I got some sweet new seats. Procar elites. Not super expensive but seem super nice. Atleast to me. Finally will have the interior done! Just waiting on the brackets now. Got a ton of parts from over the winter to install so this spring I'll be pretty busy.
