86 Beater to Better
BeaterComanche86 replied to BeaterComanche86's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Took care of my leaky valve cover by ditching the plastic and upgrading to a metal one. I took about an inch off the flutes inside (sorry no pics), destroyed the gaskets for those, sanded for what seemed like and eternity, and put on a fresh coat of paint. I managed to use the old valves from the plastic cover, but the fronts cobbed together so that will be temporary. Just as a note 4.0 valve cover bolts work for the 2.5 and I finished it off with a Felpro gasket for the Dakota. Also installed some footwell lights with new male and female Metrapak 150’s. Finally purchased the Nickintimedesign Renix Engine Monitor -
Thanks, figured that was the case just needed a confirmation from the experts.

To keep this going alittle longer what’s the verdict on using a later model ECU in a 86 2.5? And does the 4.0 and 2.5 share ECU’s? Meaning there interchangeable. Wouldn’t think so but why not ask

Do they come as a kit with the connectors, crimps, and locks from mouser? -

I think I’m gonna go with these, comes with connectors, pins, and the locks. Plus they won’t stick out like a sore thumb tucked under dash. I was tempted to spend $200 on a master set of 150’s but I think that can wait. -
That’s a bummer but you gotta do what you gotta do.

There’s a few different options so the prices vary Comanche Emblems Set (2) (uppercase or lowercase) Black - $40 White - $40 Solid Glow - $55 Glow letters, black back - $65 But like Pete said a few more post and the classifieds will open up, start a build thread and adding your vin to the registry will get you a few.

Could go with these repops but if your trying to get OEM, eBay or the wanted section here would be your best bet.

90-96 footwell light connector

I appreciate the persistence, I’m becoming less and less surprised with some of the bone head things Chrysler/AMC do. It’s like the engineers get there kicks from making things complicated. -

Thanks for info, I’ll probaly just end up getting a new male and female connector and pinning that. It’s just my luck that I get such an uncommon set of connectors. -
90-96 footwell light connector
BeaterComanche86 replied to BeaterComanche86's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Thanks @Minuit and @AZJeff I had no idea these were such an obscure connector. Id like to avoid soldering or splicing the wires together so I’ll probably just go with a buildable connector as I have some basic crimp tools. Not looking for a factory restoration but I don’t want it to look as out of place as my head unit lol. Thanks again for the suggestions -

There’s 16451 printed on the female connector: Front view: And the crimp itself which has A 18 printed on it, if that means anything: -

They do have markings on the connector, I’ll have to report back once I’m home from work and I’ll also snap a picture of the crimp itself. I’ve seen a few that look similar on clipsandfasteners.com but wanted to confirm before I bought a pack of them. Thanks for the quick response -
I’m trying to install some 90-96 footwell lights in my 86 and I can’t figure out what crimps I need for the female end. I have both male and female connectors but no source for the female crimps and id really like to avoid splicing them. Anyone know what crimps I need? The picture with the yellow arrow is female connector. These are the lights I have:

Also done a few things the last few week in my free time. New fan clutch which helped with my engine running hot but hasn’t complete solved the issue, fresh fuel filter, installed the steering skid plate, and FINALLY got some new tires. BFG AT 31x10.5x15 -

So I made a few discoveries that I’m not to happy about but at least I can address them. First off my floors have been patched... Yes that is a “for sale” sign in the first picture riveted in and then sealed with spray foam. Also I removed my bench to install the rear carpet piece and found I had 3 of the 7 nuts holding it in place along with the torx bolts that hold the seat belts only finger tight safety first I suppose (heavy sarcasm) On a positive note it did find what’s left of my build sheet under the bench and fixed the slider under the seat. Enough of the complaints and now back to work. -
First Comanche (project)

It looks like it’s mostly there except for the interior, and you could get some more miles out of the 2.5. -

Vac line and wiring diagram?
BeaterComanche86 replied to KatahGii's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Post some pics of said connectors and lines. There’s are some connectors that aren’t used in the mj since it’s the same harness as the xj. Here’s a picture of the vacuum diagram from my 86 located on the firewall. -
I was hoping they had a MJ magnet, looks like I gotta keep ordering parts,

Glad you still have it, and it’s not in the scrap yard.
