  1. In the 4.0 fuel injection manual JMO413 posted, look at the second note. ECU thinks WOT and is not spraying fuel. A little help from some extra fuel in the intake will get it to crank 400 rpms, and start spraying fuel. when the engine is warm it will make it to the 400 rpm with out any extra help.???
  2. When the engine is cold, turn the ignition switch on (Don't crank the engine), do you hear the fuel pump come on for a few seconds?
  3. (and the bolts will be clean when you put the pan back on!!)
  4. Can you verify where it is leaking? Seal behind the U joint yolk, rear diff cover, rear axle seals, or wheel cylinders? Pull the rear brake drums off and have a look. Are you loosing brake fluid? See if you can tell what is actually bad. None of these are major jobs, It could be time for you to spread your wings and fly!
  5. Why don't you get it running, and then see what you have to work with and go from there. Good Luck!
  6. Maybe you bumped some of the wiring when you changed the coil and that "fixed it"
  7. Pull the cigarette lighter out, and see if your problem disappears. I had a battery drain on a Jeep YJ. The heating element was rusted up and pushed in (to heat up). The heating element would let a current through but there wasn't enough continuity to heat it, just enough to drain the battery.
  8. I have had a couple of Jeeps that someone used a welder to "clamp" the adjusting sleeve. I guess the train of thought is "set it and forget it"
  9. Cherokee Dash??
  10. If you strip the head of those, you are going to be in a "fix for sure" trying to get it out. I tried the socket trick with no success. Went to Harbor Freight and bought the socket set and have used 6 or 7 times now.
  11. The 2 bolts on the top of the bell housing are a "PITA" and they have the star head to boot!
  12. Remove CPS before you unbolt the transmission. Do Crusiers tip on the sensor before you put it back in. (it makes a noticeable difference)
  13. If you never asked a question, you would never learn anything! I ask a lot of questions, but keep forgetting the answers!
  14. I agree with everyone else, get to know the truck and have fun with it FIRST! Find out what needs attention and fix it. Once you have a little experience with it you will have a better idea of modifications that you would like to do.
  15. I bought and sold farm equipment for years and became familiar with diesel oil. I have used it in all of the Jeeps I have owned. Never had any problems. Just like Cruiser, I use it in mowers and motorcycles. No Problems!
  16. Listen to what Eagle and I have said. Look to see if you have shifting rail problems! When you shift it does it shift smoothly? You have a truck you drove home, so you at last know it will drive and shifted (at one point). Have you talked to who you bought the truck from to see if he has any ideas? What has been done to the truck if anything? You need to think and research about swapping types of transmissions. what HAS to be changed?? you might be surprised: driveshaft?? transmission cross member?? For instance; Early AX15 had a 5/8 pilot bushing input shaft, later ones had a 3/4 pilot bushing hole. Finding a pilot bushing that will fit in the 4.0 Renix crank and fit on to the later input shaft is tricky; (think after market)
  17. Drain the oil, see what comes out. Try a magnet in the drain hole and see what sticks to it. You are going to have to remove the transmission no matter what is wrong. My guesses are: Bearings worn out or balls missing, chewed up gears etc. trash in the trans act. Syncros sticking or broken Trying to go into 2 gears at once or gear sliders not moving to neutral (worn shift mechanism) You might see if you can remove the shift lever and look down inside to see if the shifting rails are all in neutral, may not be shifting completely out or in to gear. Good Luck
  18. Kjell, do you know if your truck was originally sold in Europe or imported there? I went out and scratched the undercoat off of my 89's frame and no vin. stamped in the frame.
  19. The VIN on the lower drivers side windshield won't work? (keeping in mind that this is a unibody)
  20. Just pay the extra to have them stamp the frame! I would bet that you will probably find that there will be some other "fees" they will want to tack on. Worrying about it will make you an old man (like me) You might also contact the consulate of the country where you would like to tag it.
  21. look for fluid on top of the fuse box, (inside the cab) leaking from the clutch master cylinder. Common problem that causes several more problems. If it is put a rag or something to keep the fluid from getting into the fuse box.
  22. THERE ARE PEOPLE IN THIS WORLD WHO CAN TEAR UP A BOWLING BALL WITH THEIR BARE HANDS. If this is you, then I would avoid the BA 10/5. Drain the oil in the BA and look to see if there is a bunch of "sparkles" in the oil (chewed up bearings/gears). If it looks good, then it's your time/money, so do what ever you want to. GOOD LUCK
  23. I agree, I hate not doing repairs "correctly"; BUT... I have had a gut full of trying to fix bad wiring. With this work around, if you want AC you flip the switch and the compressor engages, no wait, no problem. (You know what it is like where you are to not have a WORKING AC!) Now it on to the next project!
  24. The simple answer is Yes. All of the original wiring is still there so the wiring to the fan is not disturbed. I used the wire to the compressor clutch to power the coil of a separate relay (not original one) and grounded the other side so that when you turned on the AC you energized the relay. A separate circuit through the relay contacts ran from the starter relay (Battery +) to the wire from the AC clutch, eliminating the weak original circuit. I used 12 gauge wire in this circuit, a 20 amp fuse between the starter relay and the jeep relay, and wire ends that will plug into the original Jeep wiring. I don't know if many other people are having a problem like this, but this seems to have fixed my problem. I have owned 3 Comanche's with AC. None of them had a working AC system when I got them. All 3 have had a full charge of freon in them. All 3 had AC wiring problems. Thanks again to MJCARENA for the relay idea.
