Check the ground tab in the socket they like to fall apart. It's on the side not in the bottom. That was why mine wouldn't work.

Mine pulls nicely to 4000 that's all I've ever pushed it. Glad to have so many responses all worth thinking about. I wish I hadn't spent money rebuilding the original D30.

I believe the second letter is the engine. Up to 88 I believe 87-90 91-92 I believe the parts book is wrong in the engine year somewhat. Does that look right with what your seeing?

The earlier ones were T for truck.

J is 4WD T is 2WD This is the VIN but I believe it follows the body code.

61 is short bed 62 is long bed

I don't plan on towing with it ever. I have a WK for those jobs. Just stuff in the bed. I have a D35 and a D30. That leads me to the next step. Regear or swap out. Either way I only want to do it once.

I have no idea. I just copied and pasted the build sheets. I had to type in the body model and build dates. The only build date I can remember is 8/8/88. I was doing it on dual screens at work during dead time. Was fun to see all the pictures though.

There's not an option code for the front axle. There bad news is the parts catalog only lists a Dana 30 for a front axle option.
