2.8l GM Rebuild I did in engine repair class
JMO413 replied to Me&my86MJ's topic in Member Projects: Other Cool Stuff
I understand the solo thing. I find rebuilding an engine and hearing it run the first time excessively gratifying! -
If I'm reading this correctly 0 is ultimate rich and 255 is ultimate lean. This is a screen shot out of the Renix infection manual. So hopefully it right. And if I'm reading this right mine is rich beacuse the 746 injectors are 20.2/lb and stock injectors are 23.2/lb? So the ECM is compensating? Sorry too high Jack your post. Just want to understand this fuel trim thing.

Nice work and nice video! -
LTFT only changes over time thus long term. STFT fluctuates until you reach operating temp thus short term. I can't find a positive answer on what way is rich and what way is lean. Everywhere I look has opposite answers. My STFT starts at 128 which I believe is default. From there as it warms up it drops to the 90's which makes sense my LTFT is 91. So am I rich or lean on LTFT?

The mail box was an interesting combo today. RIP Don. Don was first person to follow my build and it made my day when I saw that! He is and will be greatly missed.

Maybe? It idles well it goes back and forth from 620 to 670 according to the scanner. I guess I don't know what idle RPM should be.

Went ahead and installed and indexed a new distributor today. I bought a new one beacuse I don't like cutting up OEM parts and I can always go back to OEM if I want. I was surprised it was a Motorcraft distributor. Also installed a new set of Taylor wires. They are some very nice wires. Glad I looked around CC to hear about them. I want to say it starts easier and had a little better throttle response. I might just want to believe that so I feel better also. There distributor was $44 and a Cardone new so I couldn't resist. The wires were $34 only in blue though black was $15 more. Still don't understand that. Bought it from Summit with some belt molding seals. They get you with that free shipping over $99. I was surprised how bad the old cap looked. It was only 8 months old. It made a good one to cut open though. The old gasket was on there good. What little bit of a gasket there was. One more oil leak fixed hopefully.

There scanner definitely reads the CTS in the block. I tested my theory today and unplugged the one in the intake with the scanner hooked up. It still reads a coolant temperature and the gauge doesn't register.

I can just open the video on my phone and click share and YouTube is an option to share to. Similar to sending it to your computer.
-
On a cell phone you can make the video. Then go to the video to share it, this is where you send it to YouTube. You must have a YouTube account. Then you can copy the link to the video on YouTube. My YouTube channel has the 3 videos I have put on here. Hope this helps.

College Budget 1987 MJ Build

Just had to ask. -
You are correct. Are you making the video with a cell phone?
-
The scanner would read the CTS for the ECM. There one in the block.
-
If you want to put videos on, the easiest way I found was to upload them to YouTube first and then copy the link. That's what this was done with.

College Budget 1987 MJ Build

I take it your running a throttle cable straight to the throttle body. As in no Renix bell crank. Any chance you have a week return spring in the throttle body? Just asking it of this bring a problem I had before. -
The master cylinder is still working great. I have had pretty good luck with centric parts. I wish I had pulled the fuse block sooner it really wasn't that bad.
-
I have not done a compression test yet. Never really thought to, to be honest. It runs amazing minutes the little stutter it has at idle. Now if I can find my compression tester. Not sure the last time I saw it.

My XJ has a Magna Flow on it and I like it allot. It was a cat back system from Mopar back in the day. I wish they made a system for the MJ. It was expensive but it was stainless and it's still on 15ish years later. I am in the same boat as you though mine needs replaced from the manifold back if not the manifold also. Let us know what you decide and how it sounds and performs.

Computer swap was a manual.
