Sweet Rollbar! ;)

:rotf: I'm just gonna put a black stock one back on it...

I have a secret that I have been keeping from you all ;) The newest addition: Florida truck that spent only one winter in Michigan, therefore its solid as the dickens. 1990 2wd-4.0L/AW4/D35 (100,266 miles) and chances are its gonna stay that way. I bought this one for the gas mileage and plan on keeping it stock. Maybe a few years from now it will get some new paint (its very deserving of it) but as for now, just replacing the essentials and getting it ready for a summer full of driving. $675 and drove it 15 miles to my home on the highway.

My G/f has a '90 XJ with the renix 4.0L/AW4/242 setup in it with 170,000. The Jeep is getting horrible gas mileage, like in the single digits. We have alot of hills around town but it shouldnt be that bad in my opinion. Whenever the Jeep is put in Park or Neutral with it warmed up, the darn thing revs up to around 2 grand. I know that this isnt right. Any thoughts on the problem? I've already cleaned the throttle body all up. Also, it sounds like it misses right after its been started up and then a few seconds in, runs just fine. I doubt that there is a problem with the headgasket but there could be a small leak. I'm thinking it might be a fuel injector related issue. Anyone have the injector number's off hand that should be in the Jeep? Thanks - Brent

I wish I had a pic of them handy... I know they were on my G/F's '90 XJ and I have seen them on another front axle out of a '90 MJ. On the axle in the front of my MJ I had the 6 pt bolts but mine came from a '92 in the JY and I don't know the past history of it. Trust us, they do exist and are a major PITA. Be glad you don't have them. -

No no, sorry if I confused ya. You replace the 12pt hunks o junk with the 6 pt bolts Carquest has. I had to do it in a pinch (our carquest is open later than our hardware store) so I went out there and low and behold they did have the two bolt "kit" for like $9. So I got em. If it were during the day I would have tried the hardware store first... The 5 pc bolt extractor kit is here: http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00952161000P I'd take one of the bolts if you have one in with you so you can buy the set that will fit it the best (they sell different sizes in the 5pc sets of them). Or you can go all out and buy the $60 full set of them. -

Some have that stupid 12 pt. I hate it. What the other guys are referring to is the hex replacement that can be bought at Carquest. Its much nicer and I recommend you go get yourself a set for each side. If you have a welder handy, weld a little piece of cold rolled stock onto the head of the bolt and turn it off that way. IF that doesnt work. Craftsman makes a rounded off bolt extraction set that you tap on with a hammer and then put a 6 pt socket on to get it off. I had to go get a set for some lug nuts after a shop used a darn impact to reef them on. Ended up rounding if off when I tried to take it off. I'll never go back to a shop that puts my tires on that tight again. -
Or just get a sawzall and have some fun! I guarantee its cheaper plus you can take all of the steel, er I mean rust, to the JY and get some money for it. That rusty truck looks like a vehicle that will nickel and dime you to death if you plan on building it up to me.

Sounds like its internal so of course you'll have to drop the whole shebang to get to it. Just be careful when you let it all down. Once you get the tranny&t-case on the ground, the slave cyl is EASY to swap out. Just disconnect the lines to it (you will have to this so you can drop the setup down to the ground) and take off the retaining ring thing on it and pop the new one and its new ring on. Easy as pie. Make sure you grease the input shaft of the tranny up when you put it all back in and if you planned on putting in a new clutch, this would be the time to do it. New slave cyls come with clutch kits... Have fun. ;)

More pics for you guys: The RE1660 trackbar went in nice and easy. It was the old trackbar that proved to be the bugger to come out. The frame mount took some cutting of the bolts to get free but hey, it was junk to me so I had no problem whipping out the cutter and freeing my MJ of that darned achilles heel. Here is a pic of it put in. I also got the D44 rearend from dfreeman16 that I will be putting in while I am home from college for Christmas break. I plan on putting ZJ rear discs on it along with an SYE and CV driveshaft to the end of my powerplant to mate it to. Thanks for making it possible Dave! Now for pics from the trail: These were taken a while back, now we have 2' of snow that I havent had the chance to go play in yet up here...

HOLY COW! Looks like the person who built that last YJ on there had a set of 4 tires laying around and decided to put them on something to get rid of them. Way way way too unengineered for meats that big. Plus you factor in that its still using stock axles (30 and 35) and that the shackles have nowhere near the amount of travel needed to run foolishly sized springs like those. What a good laugh ;)

That old girl looks like a parts truck to me IMHO. Better fish in the sea that won't require as much hassle and attention for you to make something nice out of them. If you buy it, don't spend lots of money on it. I'd buy it for a winter beater to drive into the ground or to see how long it takes to kill it just like they did with that Hilux on Top Gear... Just my $.02

What does this do for the rear leafs?

I didnt mind them when I had them on mine... I've also saw them used on YJ's. -

Jeff, what year axle did those come off of? What years would work?
-
I thought that 35's and 44's on the ZJ's both used the same disc setups... so that tells me he could use it on a future axle if he wanted... This may be of some help for ya: http://www.madxj.com/MADXJ/technical/technicalfiles/BAzjRearDiscsOnXJ/ZJrearDiscsOnXJ.htm

Can someone identify what this used to be...

Be glad that you just have one little spot to replace... -
Any way that it could have been stressed to the point of rupture? New brake lines shouldn't break.
-
8.25 for sure. I am running one now in my rear. soon to be swapped tho.
-
...or if you are interested in selling them, let me know... otherwise thanks for the pics and such, they should help alot.
-
Jeff, did you ever end up putting these on? How well do they work? I'm looking at getting a similar setup for a D44 I am about to purchase... Exactly what years ZJ would have these?

Lookin Good! I think its awesome to see those big oblong license plates on Jeeps. Tells you that they are loved worldwide.
