Intermittent wiper module repaired

I for the life of me cannot find my meter so I have to go out and get another one today. That's been my holdup right now. I did also find another one in my stash for testing as well. Just for a short update. -

Intermittent wiper module repaired
The86manche replied to The86manche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Wow this generated quite a bit of interest! Well let me go over the other ones that I have and see what I can do. I've got the other two taken apart and they seem slightly different than the one i fixed previously. Maybe an 86 and earlier model. And these are 87 and up? regardless. Only one capacitor has changed and i only need to check values on them to see what and if anything has failed. -

Never seen that on these but I've seen it on the grand cherokee vic modules and headlight switches. I'm more of a fix it before replacing it kind of guy. If I can fix it I'll give it a shot. I have kind of wanted to have a new modern circut board made and program wiper module commands to it but that's somewhat foreign territory. -
Went down to a local electronics parts store and picked up a few capacitors for a buck a piece, 4 in total for 1 module and decided I'd try my hand at fixing a wiper module. They usually fail and I was curious to see what they look like without their case on. It looks like this. I had actually already done the repairs when I took these photos. The old resistors were green and white. When I had opened it I checked resistance to each one and found one to be open. And also one of the circumstances was broken. Hence the red wiring to repair the circut. Went out to my truck today, plugged it in and checked all intermittent settings.. IT WORKS! we got a working module again! I have several more I intend to repair and confirm function again and afterwards will be up for sale. I'd be happy to repair any if anyone has a pile they want fixed or to get rid of.

Project clean machine?

I'll work on the inside later. While it does its thing I'll work on the other wheel tub. Which was a little worse than the one I was working on before. The scale was a little thicker on this one so I broke out my wire wheel tool and got to work with some descaling since the media blast wasn't cutting it. And some progress with the blasting. I need to get a little coarser media.- 99 replies

Project clean machine?

Well we had a nice day today so after i work I got to do some.. work. I wheel tub I was working on I pulled back out and went over it with the sand blaster one more time. I went to tractor supply and got a bunch of media, turns out too fine, but It still works. Wiped it down and coated it with 2 coats of rustoleum rust reformer. I won't lie I'm a skeptic for this stuff but I wanted to give it a try anyway. I let it dry in the sun and gove it a week to see if anything comes through. I plan to apoxy these as well. Drys to a flat black finish and all in all I was happy with the results.- 99 replies

The door handle on the s10 said 'boss' and I've never seen or heard of that so I snapped a pic to look it up. Never found anything on it though

I've got tons of photos. These were from another yard that Steve magnate was going around and videoing cars on. Beautiful cars everywhere.

Project clean machine?

At first glance you wouldn't notice anything wrong but it was one of those things, the longer I looked at it the more I noticed something seemed off. What I needed was absolutely still usable and good and I appreciate you guys loading it up for me. I remember seeing the truck. Was a sad sight but it went on to help my truck- 99 replies

But after parts gathering and hoarding I decided it was time to get actually working on the truck. The parts I had removed I have started sand blasting and will apoxy prime when done. Starting with the wheel tubs. A discovery I made with these is part of the reason they rot out . This piece I was blasting I discovered there was shiny bare metal still existing just below the scale line opposite the drain hole. Which led me to believe they were bare metal coming out of the factory. Just up top though, where they couldn't get any sort of coverage. So anyway. I started blasting. I ran out of media and went to some sand paper to help break up some scale. I have picked up more blast media and will resume blasting in a few days. I intend to do the bed side skins as well.- 99 replies
