Unique AC compressor issue
eaglescout526 replied to eaglescout526's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
This actually wouldn’t surprise me. I’ve had a couple relays for the compressor “die” from heat soaking and a new cold relay would solve the issue. The compressor is NOS but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t have issues, I think it’s 30 years old but still had mineral oil in it so it was for R12 before the requirement. I don't know about any shims, I’ll look but the brake cleaner is a good idea to try. -
I might be the only one with this issue but my compressor after coming down from high RPMs after a 20 min drive slips and doesn’t stay engaged unless the RPMs climb or I get out and smack the clutch with a wrench to engage. I have a feeling the magnet is hating the high heat it is enduring out here. It runs absolutely fine in the morning which points me to heat soak issue. But I’m curious if anyone else has this or if it’s just me on the surface of the sun.

Broken Tacho Spring?
eaglescout526 replied to DzienManche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Can you snap a pic of the cluster? The 87-90 requires a different speedo cable to use which is a clip on style with a nylon clip. 84-86 had just a metal end that plugged into the cluster and was held in by a clip. -

Oooo sounds like some neat history then. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s Jim Click or our LHM store down there. -

Broken Tacho Spring?
eaglescout526 replied to DzienManche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Oh hang on. Is it the blue face? If it is, like I said, the components on the back for the tach are poor quality and fail and make the tach do weird things like what you have got going on. They need to be replaced if the tach were to work properly again. You can also update to the 87-90 cluster but you have to change out your speedo cable. The later tachs are adjustable. -
Broken Tacho Spring?
eaglescout526 replied to DzienManche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Only 84-86 tachs can not be adjusted and since their age, their circuit boards and components need some love. 87-96 should be adjustable. If you say it has a broken spring, then the tach needle shouldn’t move back to 0 and should stay where it’s at. That being said, you could have bad grounds that would be interfering with the signal. -
Mine has fog, cargo and trans plugs. That’s it.

GrandBoost98s Comanche 2
eaglescout526 replied to GrandBoost98's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Yes. I forgot about the YJ guys. They should be exactly the same. -
The ground is just for the little lamp on the switch itself. Otherwise it’s just basically a power transfer switch. you can always use a multimeter and do a continuity check to see which tab is which. I think the bottom one(if you’re looking at it head on with the lamp on the top switch portion) is ground.

Sounds good. Shoot me a PM. I can say they are in the Delphi family. I’ll do some digging too to help expedite the process. -

I have the connectors for the tail lamp harness at the body and I have plenty of wire I can use to make the harnesses, but getting those new style connectors wouldbe been a challenge for me to try to find without a dozen trial and error. So if you want to take this on, I can send what I have if you are interested. A lot of the wire i have came from my work that are scrap harnesses. -

Given my busy life and the fact they changed the connector from weatherpack to a newer style from Delphi, I have decided that this is something I won’t be able to pursue. I apologize to everyone. If I find a spare moment and if I get a pic of the current plug, I can do some digging and look into doing this. -
GrandBoost98s Comanche 2
eaglescout526 replied to GrandBoost98's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
I should put in my sig that I’ll take a Dr Pepper in moments of gratitude haha. But thanks. Oh and 87-90 there isn’t a difference. 86 is slightly but not by much. It can be used in a pinch but the difference is the 86 ECU will be looking for that WOT switch vs the later ones that use the power steering pressure switch.
