First time removing a transmission
Smokeyyank replied to jodawill's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Welcome to great part about Jeeps, making mechanics out of everyone! What transmission you got? Its not too hard to drop, especially with some extra hands and a jack. Get some wobble sockets or extensions. Nut on top is a B. As for other things not a lot. Rear main is the biggest. -
Got the new patch panel in and laided down some bondo. After that started to figure out the inner fender piece. Made a patch panel and plug welded it in. Once that was done started the cut and fold on the rear fender. Will go back and tack it around and few spots then eventually seam seal it once I get the rest in.
-
Started working on panel. Prepped the new piece by drilling spot for welds and cutting the rockers. Then started welding in the new pieces. Then first pass at grinding. Still have to clean it up but progress. After this is done will get the sliders in.

Don't know why I didnt check this out sooner. Epic journey!

Started working on the rear arch as that's got to get fixed before I can do the rest of the sliders. Started by drilling out plug welds Cleaned up the inside a bit, still more rust, but not fully rusted through. New patch panel getting tested fit. Pretty good overall fit. Need to figure out the inner wheel well. Since it was rusted out I have to put a new piece in but the whole area back there is a quagmire of a sheet metal mess with pinch seams and such.

It initially came from IL were it got bought new and spent two years before coming to CO. The rear arch is a known problem because of the foam the sprayed in and not sealing the seams as best they could. Same with the rockers spray foam and not well sealed. Compared to WJ's from the midwest this thing is mint, LOL!

Been slowly going past few weekend with spring break and life. Got the axles and everything else underneath removed. Hovercraft mode engaged! Started to remove the rear coil mounts. I got new ones I'll be putting in to stretch the WB a little and stiffeners going in. Plus they are rusted the f out. Next up will be fully fixing the rear arch rust and then getting the sliders in.

Mmmmm sexy.....

Doable with the right tools and time. Plus its "unseen" so even if your welds look like Hellen Keller got to them no one will really see it.

Forced induction is waaaayyy more fun than displacement could ever have.

Overpriced, yeah fn stupid money. Useless? No way, things go to hell and back likes its a Sunday drive. As for the aussie utes, hell yes, those holdens are sweet. There's always a WJ ute...... https://www.smythkitcars.com/jeep-ute

Naw, we all know what we really want and it's not a clapped out fiat with a Jeep badge
-
Exactly, need to get some more Darwin award contestants and the regulations aren't helping.
-
I agree, you get it worse because of being close to Parker/ Elizabeth area. Like a incubator out there for them.
-
Nothing screams small p p energy more than some twat waffle in a brodozer doing this. While I don't agree with over regulation for the auto industry this is one I would be all for. Stupid AF.

Slow weekend jeep wise, laid down a skim coat of bondo over the patch panels. Will clean it up and get it all sealed. After put down some weld through primer on the inside of the frame stiffeners and rear bumper wings. Going to try and work on those this week with the weather warming up.

Started working on the floor patches. Kind of a PITA because the seat support bracket needed to be replaced as that was rusted through along with the floor board. So started with making a new bracket for the seat mounting. Not gonna talk about the hellen keller welds. Got a new machine and was messing around with settings trying to find the sweet spot. Hate welding sheet metal but once I dialed it in was a lot better. Doesn't help I didn't use smaller wire or gas. After put some primer and quick rattle can . Then put on the floorboard piece. All back together What it started at Still need to clean up a few spots but otherwise will put a skim coat of bondo, prime, paint and seam seal it. Passenger side is almost done and after that will get the stiffeners done.

The windshield surround is rubber now. Normally not huge on chrome but it's just enough -
