That is awesome! They should have offered that scheme on XJs for sure.

That’s my ‘88 short bed Sportruck rocking ‘86 doors and hood. I saved those body panels from a truck being crushed! I love that color scheme. I still need to continue the stripes down the bed. I used a Bad Dad Fab mount to hide the winch behind a factory bumper. Nice looking truck you have! I have a set of Turbines about to go on mine as well.

I got my ‘88 4x4 a sister ‘89 4x2 Pioneer. 😆 Brought her home on Christmas Eve after a last minute 9 hour drive to Florida.

Oh yeah! Forgot the bed rails too. The wheels are interesting.. I don’t think I recall seeing any like that before. I know they are aftermarket, but I’m not sure who made them. I’ll pull one tomorrow and get a better idea.

1989 Pioneer 2wd SWB 2.5l 5-speed. Buckets, a/c, am/fm radio Has some cool 80s/90s upgrades including the original Lund visor, and a racerback of unknown origin. Comanche bed liner. Pioneer truck speakers mounted to the rear cab. Overall, it’s a solid truck with some rust starting in the floors from leaks. Presently in Western NC. I went and picked it up in FL on Christmas Eve. Not currently running, but turns over. Once I go over everything, I think I can get it running with fresh fuel. I will likely have to repair some wires and replace sensors/ignition components. Brakes still work at this point. Still has fluid in the radiator and oil is full. Has been sitting roughly 10 years. A rodent was living in the engine bay though. I will get more information from the panels tomorrow.

Custom leaf springs - spring-under with a Ford 8.8
Jeepzahn replied to Jeepzahn's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Currently, my front height is 8.5” The rear height (with the 8.8 axle) is around 8.75” at the driver’s, and 9.3” at the passenger side. I’ve always had a rear height discrepancy from side to side -
Custom leaf springs - spring-under with a Ford 8.8
Jeepzahn replied to Jeepzahn's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Thank you everyone for the helpful info! I’ve reached out to a few more companies, but have yet to try Alcan. Hell Creek’s 4.5” lift spring has a 1440# spring rate, which is plenty I think. They were very helpful when I inquired about this. I know they don’t make their own springs anymore, but they do use a US manufacturer and their original specs. Pete M Let me get back to you on that. I will say, I am running XJ UpCountry coils (CC784) with a 3/4” spacer, if I’m not mistaken. My rear springs are factory 4x4 with some S10 bits mixed in, and C1500 drop shackles. I hate the look of those shackles, but I needed to compensate for the sag when I was loaded up. -
Just what we all need is another leaf spring thread, but I am having difficulty finding what I need. I’ve been under the impression that I could order a custom set from General Spring, but that is not the case. I am currently running an 8.8 rear axle on my 88 swb 4x4. I am using a bastard-pack and Chevy drop shackles to fit 31’s and keep a rake to the stance. I typically have a camper top and gear/tools in the bed, and the current springs are way too soft. I am planning on running 32’s soon, but want to change my leaf springs first. My problem is with the increased tube diameter of the 8.8 and wanting to stay spring-under. I am not interested in cheap lift springs or AALs. I contacted General Spring about getting increased arch on a set of their 1700# capacity military-wrapped 5-pack springs, but they will only do stock. I am waiting to hear back from Eaton spring now. I know Deavor may also be an option, but they seem a bit more pricey. Does anyone have any recommendations on what to do here? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Hey guys. I can put some things together as well, but my skills are very limited. I am going to keep messing with designs as I enjoy it anyhow. I get my stickers printed at Sticker Mule. They are not the cheapest, but are of great quality and they hold up very well. I have gotten a lot of stickers printed through them for a small personal business. I can also get quotes for digitally or screen printed shirts here locally. Let me know what you guys think and I will see what else I can come up with. Here is a quickie I did this evening: I don't necessarily like how the website is displayed, but I wanted to keep the text as close to "American Motors" as possible.

I just recently went through all this. There is some info in my build thread and pictures from when I did it. I went with LuK for pretty much everything. The only problem I have had so far is the master cylinder seems to have been defective and now I see it is leaking. Its only a few months old. It was a LuK unit I got on Amazon. I am going to try another brand and replace it, but I imagine it was just a defective part.

A long night in the garage with much success! I finally gathered all the parts I needed and decided to start on the front suspension tonight. I had already installed the WJ LCAs and ZJ tie rod. Tonight, I installed a new MJ drag link, and the CC784 coils (V8 ZJ UpCountry). They are variable rate, and noticeably beefier compared to the factory MJ springs. I also replaced the spring isolators with a Moog replacement. I installed JKU Rubicon shocks on the front fresh off the USPS truck (Thanks hornbrod!). I put on the 31s/15x8 Canyons before I tackled the front to see how much space I had. It was very limited. This is how it is sitting with the coils in and everything buttoned up. The front came up around 1.5”. Roughly 3” of lift if you count the tire size increase as well. I picked up a set of 88 S10 blazer 4 ply leaf-springs with pretty low miles yesterday, but I haven’t decided if I’m even going to mess with the back at this point. A bastard pack with these springs may make it too high in the back. [emoji848] I do have a set of 3/4” isolators for the front, incase I want to come up a little more... however, so far so good! Comanche with Wagoneer front end - Western NC
Jeepzahn replied to Jeepzahn's topic in Craigslist/eBay... i.e. Not Your Stuff
Haha, yeah really! We can probably all relate to that in one form or another. The price is a bit high on this one for the condition it’s in.. but, damn that front end has been growing on me lately. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
What is the status? Figure out anything @Tony el Tigre? If not, do you hear the fuel pump cut on when you turn on the ignition?

I have a fascination with polishing turds! Haha. I was just thinking, the other day, about needing a sticker of a little pile of poop with a sparkle on it. I do like to try and use what is available, and reduce/reuse/recycle as much as I can. I find it satisfying and hunting for parts is fun, and better for my wallet. However, I do think I will purchase those springs in the future, but I can't justify the $520+ cost at this time to bring the rear up a little. Thank you though @HOrnbrod. Are those the springs you are running on your 91? -

Barn find freebie. Was covered in decades of dust. It's an old LEER Knight for a foreign truck of some sort. It works great, I sleep back there all the time while truck camping. -

I need to decide on what to use and find a donor set of leaves to bring the rear up. I have some old YJ springs that I disassembled, but they feel a bit flimsy and worthless for anything. I may try cutting the ends off the main just to try, but I think truck springs are a better bet. I have access to a set of 77 Wagoneer springs that could be of use.. -

Finally getting close to 31s and a little height on the Comanche. All the suspension components are fairly worn out, so its nice feeling the subtle improvements in any change. I installed a new V8 ZJ tie rod, a few weeks ago, to replace the worn stock unit. Steering is much tighter now. I still need to install a new drag link, and not sure if I am going to try an alternative, or just run a factory Comanche drag link. Today I installed the WJ lower control arms after trimming them for clearance. This also made the front end feel different while driving. A lot of this has to do with needing an alignment. I have a pair of CC784 coils on the way, and the wheels are just about finished and ready to get the 31s mounted. Really excited to see it sitting a few inches higher. I ended up ordering some Mastercraft Courser CXT A/Ts in 31x10.5r15 for the 15x8 Canyons. Just in time for Winter! Also, my 12v cigarette lighter crapped out, and since I only use USB, I decided to wire in a USB port to replace the 12v socket. It works great, charges faster, was pretty cheap, and simple install. -
This is a hard find for sure. I needed one as well last year, and ended up having to get the "Spectre" brand adaptor, which I found on Amazon for fairly cheap. That allowed me to use a universal hose to the airbox. Unfortunately, it's not OEM, but it got the job done and doesn't look horrible. If I come across one ill certainly let you know and can ship it. Good luck!

I am trying to understand what someone did here..? And also, why the clutch line is plastic there? Its typically metal line, with a little "flexy" section in the middle somewhere. That looks really strange to me, and I wonder if it was leaking and someone just spread a bunch of JB Weld on it or something.. weird. Awesome build though man! Looking forward to seeing the progression

It looks like you drink as much beer with your MJ as I do with mine. Love this build! Keep up the great work man. Cheers!

Started on a set of wheels yesterday that are going on the Comanche mounted with 31s. Some are worse than others, but they all have some pitting. I used Aircraft Remover to strip the clear coat and paint from the wheels. Eventually, I got one to look like this: I used a scuff pad to get the pitting out of the last wheel pictured. I am going to use an attachment for the drill or angle-grinder to make the rest go a lot faster. The question is what to do when i'm done? I really want to see them all polished up, I think it will look really clean. However, I am thinking I should do a decent clear coat job on them afterwards... Anyone have any experience with this? Particularly with factory wheels..
