  1. I saw a guy on here or Cherokee forum who welded very slim wings on the stubby bumper that could barely be noticed but protect the sides. I believe they were wedge shaped so the edges were very slim, but had a strong backing. If I find it I’ll post up here. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. I’m not much help probably, but I put a 90 xj cluster in an 87 mj. Everything worked once I got the right oil and water sender. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. My Cherokee has a lot of the power options, added insulation and sound deadening under the carpet, 2 amps, subwoofer and box, 35” spare, a decent amount of tools, and lots of armor. It’s a heavy pig. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. If it’s staying basically stock 3.55 is a lot easier to find. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. Yes it will. My Comanche currently has a bumper, header panel, and grill from a 96 xj. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. It’s already got upgraded 4 hole injectors, but I’m not trying to up the power. I just want to know what’s wrong, not how to possibly bandaid the problem. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. Not sure where the 2.5 xj came from, but there’s definitely something wrong. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. Yes, I’m comparing my 4.0 Comanche to my 4.0 cherokee since it’s the only other 4.0 I have easily available. I had stated this previously in this thread also. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. Does anyone here have a cam in a stock 4.0? Looking to do a stock rebuild with my renix block, 7120 or 0630 head, 99 intake, newer style exhaust header and down pipe, 60mm tb, and 746 injectors. Figure when I do the rebuild it would be the time to throw a cam in there. It’ll be street driven. Occasional light towing, and just a fun street truck. What do ya’ll have? 10. The Cherokee weighs 1000 lbs more than the Comanche according to the scale at the local scrap yard. You have to remember the Cherokee has 35” tires which weigh more, 4wd, long arms made of 1/4” wall dom tube, 2x6 3/16 wall rock sliders, plate bumpers and the Comanche is a bone stock stripped down 2wd 5 speed swb truck. Nothing really stock on the xj anymore. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. Although the gearing is slightly lower, the Cherokee also weighs over 1000lbs more according to the scrap yard scales. There is also much more rolling resistance, and there is much more drag with it being lifted 5.5”. All of these comparisons are really apples to oranges. Just really feel there is something up with it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. I personally plan to keep the renix operating system with a bastard engine. Use a 99+ intake, with whichever head has the better flow but still has the temp sensor (forgot the number and years), renix block, 96 fuel rail, bored HO throttle body, HO header and down pipe, and a few other little items. I see no reason to ditch the renix operating system. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. The truck has a 1990 ecu in it, so a little more pep and power than an 87 ecu. I’ve done most of cruisers tips. Most if not all sensors on it are factory, but the ones I’ve checked are in spec aside from the IAC which I’m getting one from a friend next week. I don’t expect to be able to stick it in 5th and cruise down the highway just fine, but I barely get to 5th ever. I understand you need to downshift at times, but it shouldn’t be riding in 4th 90% of the time. This thing feels worse than my 2000 Jetta I had and that was a 5 speed 4 cylinder that had serious oil burning problems with who knows how many miles on the engine. That car weighed the same or more than the Comanche. Obviously the aerodynamics are different, but they also had at least 80 hp difference factory, and 100 less ft/lb of torque. I could stick that sucker in 5th and cruise. Maybe it’s just time to park the Comanche till I have the funds to do the engine build I want. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. Bought it from the original owner and the mileage is accurate. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. I’m not convinced it’s 3.07 gears. The fact that I can’t cruise highway speeds at all means something is up. I’m sure from the factory with 3.07s a Comanche could cruise the highway in 5th gear or else jeep would’ve made it a 4 speed with no over drive or put different gears in it. 16. Clearly you didn’t read my post since I stated the Cherokee has over 30,000 more miles. Probably now like 70,000 since the speedometer has been off almost since the day I’ve owned it since I’ve put bigger tires on it, and the gauges would go in and out when I first bought it so who knows how many miles the owners before me drove it without the odometer counting. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. I get up to speed then shift to 5th to try to cruise then downshift for hills then back to 5th down hill. With a trailer it’s never seen 5th. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. Last I checked the fuel pressure was good, but the pump has gotten really loud. Not much blow by last I checked either. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. Can’t hold speed on the highway no matter what. Kinda quick around town. Really only like driving it if I’m not going over 45 mph. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. It’s only a 6x12 trailer and my friends 16ft wooden deck car hauler is 1k so I’m sure it’s lighter being single axle and smaller. The ranger weighs about 1500lb. My Comanche weighs somewhere under 3k being stock 2wd swb. My Cherokee weighs 4500 with me in it according to the scrap yard scales. No cat, done a full tune up on it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. I’d agree if both were equally built, but my Comanche is stock height with street tires and my Cherokee has 5.5” of lift, and 35” Goodyear mtrs with heavy bumpers and armor. It has 4.56 with an auto and the Comanche is 3.07 4.0 5 speed with over 30,000 miles less. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. I can hear my fuel pump over the exhaust and currently the truck doesn’t have a muffler. It’s LOUD just gets louder as you drive. The vacuum line to the MAP is fine, haven’t checked the actual readings though. When the vacuum line is unhook it runs like garbage though so it’s doing something. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. So today I towed my dads ranger 900 on a wooden deck trailer. Under 3k for sure. I never touched 5th gear and could barely keep the speed limit. This thing has no guts. Less than my Cherokee on 35s. What’s the deal? It’s got new injectors, cap/rotor, wires, plugs, fresh fluids all around, 2wd 5speed 4.0, and 135,000 miles. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  24. I actually have a spare starter relay I pulled from a junkyard Cherokee, so I can’t tell you where to get one in stores. I’ve done plugs, cap, rotor, and fuel filter. I have a feeling my pump is going out so I need to replace it sometime, probably wouldn’t be a terrible idea to do the pressure regulator while I’m there and have a full fresh system. I put in some refurbished 746 injectors. Something is still up with it since it’s more gutless than my 4wd cherokee with 5.5” of lift and 35s. Gets better mileage, but has no power. The Cherokee gets under 14 mpg usually. What fuel pump did you go with? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  25. Got my battery cables in and as always I’m impressed with the quality. Also, installed a clock in the dash. I really think the fuel pump is dying. It gets very loud as I drive farther, and a few times it’s sputtered like it wasn’t getting gas then snaps back to life. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
