  1. I have the Firestone Destination MT.... nice wheeling tire.. not a good street tire... and definitely not a winter tire for us Northern Folk. Them southern boys might be okay.. but once the white stuff starts flying those destinations start making me nervous. But I run a 33 x 12.5 on my Cherokee. Something smaller might be less butt-puckering.
  2. Doesn't mean we post anything worthwhile (mostly TJ Dribble for me).... And I don't go to JU any more either... Okay... I wasnt referring to you Wade... but hey... that means at least three of our members post there on regular basis..
  3. Sunday.. might work for me... It depends on what the wife and kids insist on doing for father's day. Saturday we have a scout fishing outing, so my day would be shot until afternoon.
  4. Bet those wooden wheels made that YJ ride even worse...
  5. I was microseconds away from logging in and laying down the law when I read that. Rob L. Me too. But then I realized I just had to let it pass. JF is unlike any other Jeep forum out there, more bad information gets passed around there than anywhere else. I get the feeling the reason those people stay there and pass around bad information is that whenever they leave that site they get the smack down from their bad information. And, rather than suck it up and move on, run back to JF where they can just keep passing out their bad information without anyone calling them out on it. Pete and Wade both post over there pretty extensively... You must have never frequented JU...

    Iceman

He's 40...At some point getting punched in the head that many times and you end up in George Foreman land...
  8. That's how alot of stations do it. Use two tanks. One low octane and one high. When you buy the middle grade it is mixed at the pump.
  9. On mine I used a 24" chain pipe wrench... wrap the chain around it.. brace the wrench arm against the ground. Don't worry about digging into the balancer.. its trashed already.
  10. I don't know of anyone offhand from here over in Streator and Dwight. Those are the towns in Illinois that got hit.
  11. Sometimes they slide right out.. other times they need a little encouragement from a drift. Also there were two kinds of retainers for center pins. Some early axles had a roll pin that had to be driven out. later ones had bolts. 1/4 inch 12 point to be exact.
  12. My UPS guy drops other people's stuff off at my house.. cause he is so used to coming here.
  13. Ask Correy for the pictures of his AX-5 rebuild... then we can talk about whether or not there are yellow metal parts in one...
  14. Says the guy with an enormous cup holder on his dashboard....
  15. I know the 44 in the rear of my 91 Waggy has no crush sleeve...
  16. No replay!! It screwed up football.. It screwed up last night's NHL finals game. The ump manned up and admitted he blew the call. That alone is refreshing...
  17. Pete... we need multi-quote for threads just like this one..... Yes, Chrysler did switch the recommendation of a 75w90 GL-4 lube in the AX-15 to 10w30 motor oil. This was done after all the AX-15's were out of warranty. This is a simple case of cost cutting. Why carry a one-use fluid in your service centers, when there are lots of uses for 10w30. Plus.. all of the affected transmissions were out of warranty so no lubrication related failures to cover. The AW-4 is much the same idea... In a TSB dated Oct. 07 the Aw-4 is specifically exempted from the ATF+4 recommendation. In a TSB dated Apr. 08, all transmissions are recommended to use ATF+4. The '01 XJ's would have left dealer lots with a 7 year/70k mile warranty, which would have been expiring right in that time period. The dealerships can stop carrying Dex III, Chrysler can stop buying a fluid that is liscensed from GM. And there are no lubricant related failures being covered under warranty. Like I asked earlier in this thread. Why play games, when acceptable replacement fluids are available?? Remember Aisin-Warner didn't change the fluid recommendations for either of these transmissions... They built them, why would Chrysler recommend something different???
  18. Thats correct. Most gear lube is GL-5 rated now and the formulation attacks the brass synchros in the AX-15. So, Redline MT-90 is friendly to the brass? Much rather be running a 90w oil... Yes.. Redline MT-90 or Amsoil MTG... both are "yellow metal friendly" (to steal your term).
  19. Yes... I just put them together for the picture. They are already tucked away in the dungeon-esque garage until I can get proper mountings for them.
  20. Got some new-to-me stuff the other day. Not as impressive as the guy who brought home a new pick-up. But certainly better priced.... Marquette Star Jet torches, with a cutting head, #1 and #5 brazing heads. 20 foot regular hoses and 30 foot extension hoses and the bottles, which are still a bit in them, plus a basket of of assorted gloves, an apron and leather sleeves. Total Price.....FREE!!! Gotta love it when Dad decides he has too much stuff he isn't going to use any longer. Plus this way if he needs it.. I have it for him. This little helper also followed me home the other day. It took a bit of trading to get it. But its one of those nice things to have around when you need it.
  21. Why would you want to, when the correct fluid is available??? What fluid would you suggest? Redline MT-90 or Amsoil MTG are both excellent choices. The both meet the API-GL-4 rating which means much lower levels of sulfur, which is what attacks and destroys the yellow metal parts of the transmission. Both are 75w-90 gear lubes, so they meet the original viscosity requirements also.
  22. Why would you want to, when the correct fluid is available???
  23. I know where there is an all original V8 Hornet Wagon Sportabout. Clean, no rust, garage kept. 304 Auto. Rob L. :brows: Very nice one... brought back memories to my childhood.. just needed the fake wood and the black vinyl seats.
  24. Are the PA inspections that bad?? Do you absolutely need MJ taillights??? Can you swap something else in, wire them to correctly light and still pass inspection???
  25. You are perfectly fine switching at this point. 3500 miles on the highway is still 3500 miles.
