manual window regulator source-DS
AmJay replied to Incommando's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I'm using 4 door XJ regulators on mine. Worked great. In fact better then the originals since they bolted in instead of being riveted in. Just make sure you get them from an XJ that doesn't have the one piece glass window. -
Do you have the sport steering wheel or the standard wheel. The sport wheel has a plunger in the turn signal cancelling cam and that can get pretty corroded. You can just file it a little and it should be good for another 20 years. The standard wheel has a wire with a brass rivet on the end that sticks out the turn signal cancelling cam. the brass gets corroded and green. There's just a little tab that holds it in (same with the sport wheel). Just give it a twist and the spring and wire should come right out (spring and plunger if it's a sport wheel). The brass ring around the turn signal cancelling cam is also brass and gets corroded so if you're going to change the tumbler you can clean that up pretty good too. All those parts are available at NAPA if you just want to replace everything. Mac...

The Honda Shadow, VTX, and Gold Wing are made in Marysville Ohio. Just outside of Columbus. They have a Honda Homecoming every summer and you can tour the factory watch them dyno every bike coming off the assembly line and even take a chance a going home with one for FREE. They even let non-Honda people come and park in their lot. Another Plus to the Jap bikes you can usually actually buy them without the wait.

No offense, if I was younger I'd have a crotch rocket for sure. We''ve discussed a side car more then once around here so the dog would have a place to ride. Not sure what the dog would think about it though.

No Tach....yet. I still have a 1970 SL350K1.. Only does 70 before it starts rattling the fillings out of my teeth. 70 is 7000RPM. Here's a pic..

My co-worker (Harley guy) has already told me it's a girl's bike. LOL I've driven a pre-crotch rocket KZ1000 and KZ900, I'm sure you're right about 80 in 2nd gear. I've seen you guys out there weaving in and out of traffic treating cars like cones in a slalom race. I'm at a different point in my life I'm no longer immortal.

Seems like old age is catching up to me. For the past couple of years my motorcycle has been getting heavier and heaver. I finally decided it was more hassle then pleasure to ride and it was time to down size. I'm not a fan of Harleys I'm sure they're a lot better then the 1951 Pan head that I spent more time kicking then riding, but 30 years ago I bought a 450 Honda CL and have stuck with Hondas ever since. That and the dealer and I are friends. So, I traded in my 2003 VTX1300 (nearly 700 pounds) for a 2010 Honda Shadow Phantom. The only Shadow made with fuel injection. It's still at the dealer being accessorized, but here's a picture. I drove it for several miles on the interstate and it will do 80 all day which is fast enough for this old fart. I can't believe how nice it handles and it doesn't hurt that I really like the bobber styling. I looked at the Harley Sportster 48 and liked it, but being vertically challenged the Honda was a better fit. Other then then Chrome exhaust and funky front turn signals, which will be changed I really like the looks and handling. The Harley dealer wouldn't let me take the 48 for a spin since it was allready spoken for. Accessories: Boulevard wind screen floor boards with heel toe shifter ( I have an inherited disease (genetic defect) called "Charcot, Marie, tooth disease (CMT) and upshifting is nearly impossible as a result.) custom seat and luggage rack.

Nice story. I think Art Arfons not Art Afrons drove the Green Monster. He used to drag race it and I actually got too see it run a couple of times.

I don''t think they had hydraulic brakes on anything that old. I remember my Grandpa's Model T pickup had brake rods because they would fall off whenever he went down a rough road. I'm guessing that is the gas line since it would be on the wrong side for brakes. Mac...

You can stick a screwdriver in one of the spokes on the hamonic balancer and wedge it under the bottom of the timing chain cover. If you remove the rubber or whatever that skirt under the front of the engine is made of you can access it from underneath a lot easier. If you plan on changing the front seal while you have the balancer off. Lisle tool makes the best seal puller on the market. The handle can be set at about a 45 degree angle making removing the radiator unnecessary. I know, you can use a screwdriver to remove it, but check out the lisle puller.

I wish you lived closer to me I'd save them for you. I have a sand blaster and it works great on restoring aluminum wheels. You probably have someone near you in the business. They usually don't charge much to blast wheels. The blaster near me can even powder coat them in a million different colors, probably something that even looks like aluminum. Mac... PS: I use silica sand which is available from places like Home Depot and Menards.

Is this the MJ you changed the lock cylinder on? It sounds like the ignition switch needs adjustment. It's held on by 2 bolts and you can loosen those bolts and slide the switch up or down on the column. Tighten the screws and test, repeat until it works right. Mac...

Well I finally got around to starting my floor pan repairs. Here are some pictures of what I'm starting with. I was a little surprised that the passenger side is rusted at the back behind the seat. It is rusted through on either side of the frame rail. Well time for some grinding. Does anyone have a secret to get out those t50 Torx bolts that hold the seat belt? I've ruined a USA made torque wrench T50 and they didn't budge. I got 3 of them out and 3 still stuck. I can't use heat because the belt is still attached. Mac...

My latest dog, Ming came from a rescue. My last 3 dogs have come from rescues I've found on Petfinders. I've adopted, blind, diabetic, deaf and geriatric dogs. Maybe the rescues are just glad to be rid of them. Ming had, I say had, because she's better now, a fear of anything on 2 legs. She had been adopted twice and returned and was destined to be a rescue dog forever. In fact we went to look at another dog and ended up with Ming. The rescue hadn't listed her and considered her not adoptable. I have no real advice on dealing with animal rescues. I pretty sure my Vet recommendation is worth it's weight in gold when dealing with rescues. Having a diabetic dog will guarantee you'll be on a first name basis with your vet.

I'm pretty sure you have an unpartioned 460GB of disk space. If you want to expand your current partition look for a program call GPARTED. Although designed for Linux it will expand Windows partitions. Google Gparted and you should be able to find it. Also if I remember there is a 140GB limit per partition. I'm not real sure since I don't run windows too much.

I'd like it for $300. If the transfer case is good and a good D30 plus the correct length drive shafts for my SWB. Yep, that would be a no-brainer. I have a 4x4 AW4 sitting in my garage. It's also the same year as mine.. Mac...

I'm going to pass on it. I use mine as a dd I'd have to pay someone to remove the locker and redo the spring perches. I'm holding out for a cheap wreaked XJ to do the 4x4 conversion all at once instead of part by part. Anyone in the Zeeland Michigan area it's on the Grand Rapids Craigslist. Mac...

Yeah, I know they don't look right, I assumed is was just a stock picture. I did a parts search for "Jeep Comanche" on their website and that's what came up. Do they look more like a J10 or J20?
-
Never saw a Comanche with a rear window louver. Here's a place that still sells them. HERE

Does this look like it's worth $300.00? Rare XJ dana 44 w/ crown vic disc brake conversion. Need this out of my garage. Lincoln locked. 3:55 gears Ran great. Swapped axle back and forth when going wheeling. Not to thrilled about the budget locker. On my local craigslist.

One of lifes great mysteries, Pete. Who gets all those 1/10 pennies on a gallon of gas? How come I never get them?

help request with dash power problems
AmJay replied to STERLING STINGER's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I'm kinda scratching my head on the ignition cylinder too. I suspect the ignition switch connector was loose or corroded and disconnecting it and reconnecting it burnished the contacts enough to get everything working. Mac... -
Nice. Front wheel drive?

bucket seats and sliding rear window common??
AmJay replied to Huntingman2706217's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I'm guessing if they have bucket seats and sliders they also have the tach and gauges which is also nice to have. -
Project "Eliminator"
AmJay replied to 89eliminator's topic in MJ Hardcore Tech: Epic Journeys to Greatness
I'm curious about the patch. Was it from an MJ? Did you flange or butt weld it in? How is the wheel house connected to the patch? Mac...
