So for the last two and a half months I've been working on my complete axle and suspension upgrade . Parts list : RE HD SF 5.5" lift kit ( short arm ) New D44 w/Trac-lock , alloy axle shafts , TF disc brakes , seals and Yukon 456"s Complete rebuilt D30 w/ matching gears Tera Flex SOA kit Tera Flex SYE kit Custom made Tom Woods CV drive shaft HD Tera Flex rod ends TF high steer 1 ton knuckle kit Custom made drag link and tie rod @$$. TF sway bar relocation brackets RE quick disco's Bilstein / RE mono tube shocks So after a astronomical amount of money and long waited anticipation , AH the test drive .... Not even two miles down the road and The rear locks up like a horse that won't jump over a creek , locking all four tires at 35 mph , so there I sat right in the middle of the road all locked up and no where to go . She wouldn't budge , no neutral , back or forward . By this time I'm sheer meltdown mode because everyone that drives by me looks at me I'm THAT GUY who won't push his crap off to the side of the road . Then comes the cops , intro with " what did you do " really dude ? I planned all this out . " OH well can see your license and registration please" , seriously dude ? The only way we could get the truck on the skid was to drop the drive shaft right in the middle of the road , with rear still locked up we dragged my brand new sh@t right up on the skid . I know this kind of stuff happens to the best mechanics but man I had to vent some steam . It was either kick the dog around for a day or post a big @$$ long blog about how my panties are all wadded up . Thanks for being my emotional punching bag CC .

Went through this about a month ago with my truck , the problem is you will need more than just the brakes . All of the steering will need to be swapped as well as the knuckles from the WJ and you have to drill a different bolt pattern through the WJ rotors to match the 5 on 4.5 bolt pattern . Some other minor welding is needed as well like a spacer on the knuckle . There are a couple of ways that I've seen it done but most of it confused me . I did not want to have my truck apart and not be able to put it together if I ran into a problem . IMHO I just replaced the stock brakes with better NEW OEM rotors and calipers and SS brake lines , my truck stops way better than it ever did before even with wide wheels and 31x10.5's . The new aftermarket Tera Flex discs in the rear helped that a little as well However all I really notice from the rear now is the discs don't lock as soon as you mash the brake keeping the rear a little more stable , more noticeable under braking in a turn or a lean .

89eliminator's 92 Eliminator
DJM/78 replied to 89eliminator's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
Nice find on a real rare one , Ford made more GT 500 Mustangs back in sixty nine than the actual 92" MJ production numbers . So in essence you own an even more rare vehicle than a Shelby GT 500 ... All the Jeep guys up here think they are a dime a dozen so they pay me little mind when I walk into a discussion about cool Jeeps . -
:agree: The first gen DSM's were better through manufacturer design , the early years used cast iron blocks better suited for over boosting but most of the non turbo neons , dsm's and eclipses used the chrysler motor and the turbo models all got the better mitsubishi power plant . Better cylinder head but shaty clutch , even the new lancers have faulty clutches . Instead of fixing the clutch problem the dealerships blame the people driving the cars and charge them for replacing it . That was my last straw with Mitsubishi when a spanking new OZ rally edition threw a clutch three months into owning it . I don't care how hard I was on it , the clutches should last at least three months . EEFFF MITSUBISHI !! They should have stuck to making airplanes and bombers for the JDF .

Way to throw one down for the Comanche Nation .

Same trans as the mitsubishi GS , GST , GSX eclipse . not sure of the part no # but a TSI is all wheel drive like the GSX , same motor and drivetrain . I think they used allot of the same components on the turbo Neon as well . The drivetrain has major problems like a god awful timing belt and tensioner , once one of those fails once , you just swiss cheesed all 16 valves real quick . I did that twice before getting rid of the POS .

$500 92 in KY... 2wd/4.0/manual
DJM/78 replied to Pete M's topic in Craigslist/eBay... i.e. Not Your Stuff
I wish I could snatch that one up , somebody better save a 92" :fs2: -
My slop is coming from that bolt at the pitman , drag link and tie rod ends are all shot as well . A track bar will just dampen anything loose in there but won't fix it , after a couple of months the track bar end will be loose again . probably reamed the track bar end oval and so you'll probably need a new track bar again . I have replaced mine twice before putting up the cash for a complete steering upgrade . IMO , the stock steering and suspension sucks for lifted trucks .
-
Found it ! Mine is a 92" so I won't have to replace all that stuff as well . http://www.teraflex.biz/products/high-s ... uckle.html

Yeah I guess I'm already doing all that at the same time with a RE super duty 5.5 lift , SYE and rebuilt axles , so far though It looks like the Tera Flex kit will use all of the stock brake calipers and rotors but we'll see .

I went through this a couple of weeks ago . Trying to get a handle on all the different ways to set the steering up , I gave up and went with the Tera Flex high steer knuckle kit . You don't need the other Knuckle unless you want it and I'm making my own Tie rod and Drag link out of more solid round rod instead of the expensive aluminum rods . I'm still using the Tera Flex rod ends though . It all bolts up fine and uses the stock break set up and there are a couple of options of rod placement and set up .

Gas leak.. now more problems
DJM/78 replied to one_bad_MJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
It may not work , but for an emergency try rubbing Lava soap on the small holes , when the gas hits the soap it will solidify sealing small holes . I would just wait for a new tank instead of doing this over again in the future . The soap works though , old Ranger handbook stuff . -
Or you can add up how much it will cost to KILLS the basement and have the landlord take it off your rent , you would be doing him a favor at the same time . Its white so it will cover anything painted or not .

Sounds like you need to find your own place of zen . The problem is someone does own that house and any damages or costs of cleaning can and will be at your expense . We are not talking about a small apartment here , a house can cost a homeowner a fat bundle to repair and general maint. I had a deal like that quite a few years back with a roommate that was worthless , the land lord came back and fined us about 1400.00 bucks that she took us to court for and was awarded by the judge . Took me two years to pay off . Lesson learned . Find your own place to live ..

Exactly .... This is how I do it , since I work 6-7 days a week 12-15 hr. work days , if someone comes in and needs anything thats special order or special fab. I tell them the time it takes to do it and with a smile , then I tell them what it will take to do it their way . For some weird reason , they always pick my way , because their way costs allot more .... Oh" , you still want it your way , Yes sir I accept Mastercard , Visa and good ol' cash , sorry no American Express . I've been known to be still working late Christmas eve nights finishing projects for customers that wait till last min. to buy something for their wife . I always give them a little crap but I always come through , I know how cold the dog house is in December . :rotfl2:

is there any common reason why ....

Sorry guys I've been busy . My loose ground is behind the console bolted to the lip at the edge of the floor pan . It may be aftermarket because of the :dunce: that installed the sound system . Check any bolts with wires running to them . I had to pull the carpet to get to mine . -

DJM/78 replied to shawn's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Sounds like a loose ground somewhere , possibly in the cab ? Mine has a faulty ground behind the console that shorts out my door buzzer , console lights , pillar lights all at the same time ... Someone should really come up with a painless wiring harness thats actually painless . :dunce: -
Looks like a good candidate for the first official convertible MJ .

MJ Wheel Stance WITH PICS WAHOO!
DJM/78 replied to HOrnbrod's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The tires do show their teeth a bit more , I think its an improvement over a stock BS any day . Mine rides great with 4" BS wheels . -
I don't think I've ever seen a OEM front bumper in that good of shape .

Perfect , looks like a custom . They probably don't have one for a short bed .... Looks good man , does the back corner hang off a little or is that just me . -
Mine was coming from that bolt at the pitman arm and the rod ends are shoty . The bigger tires put allot of wear on old stock components . All my noise came after I put the 31" on a 200,000 mile suspension . NO BUENO !!! Do the WJ upgrade or look at Tera Flex for their high steer kit , way better than the stock components .
