  1. Number of poles/lines you can have in the water. In Iowa the limit is 2 lines, makes for less productive catfishing. Some states have no limit so you can be sitting there with 8+ poles.
  2. You could be right, I'm not great with all the subspecies of fish but I thought the South American had very little color like Oscars? Edit: quick googling confirms, it is indeed a Green Terror Cichlid and they are from South America. Learned something new!
  3. If you aren't big into fishing it probably won't be a huge deal but you'd be surprised, regs very quite a bit. Some states have limits on number of poles you can have, some don't. Some states allow certain baits, others don't. Some states and areas have different restrictions on fish you can keep and areas you are allowed to fish. You are definitely correct, fish and game laws are taken very seriously. That's pretty standard across all states, you definitely don't want to be on the wrong side of the law when it comes to fish and game.
  4. I've got quite a few but only one actually setup. - 5 gallon with glass divider inserts. Some kind of breeder tank? - 10 gallon that's empty - 10 gallon that has a complete hermit setup and never had a hermit in it - 20 gallon that was a bioactive frog terrarium that I recently took down. It currently has the dirt mix with springtails and isopods in it but nothing else. - 55 gallon bow front that's empty - 55 gallon bow front with a 5-6yr old Green Terror Cichlid and some fake plants because real ones wouldn't survive. My plan is to turn one of the 55 gallons into a bioactive paludarium with newts or salamanders and tetras with a nice cliff waterfall feature. Once the Cichlid passes I haven't decided what to do with the other bowfront but the current candidates are multi-species catfish or Bala sharks.
  5. I would look at state laws to make sure the state allows things you want. Firearms, hunting/fishing regs, tax laws, vehicle inspection laws, ECT. Weather/climate is another thing to consider. I think your best bet is to find somewhere that you can get property away from towns, somewhere in the mountains would be my choice. Only place you are going to get away from crime. Crime is going up, even in small towns anymore.
  6. I have never had issue with trimmer string on any weed trimmer I have used, as such I've also never heard of line being soaked in water to fix any issues. Currently I use a Dewalt 20v string trimmer with the DeWalt trimmer line. The line only really breaks when it hits the fence or after prolonged use it gets too short to be effective. SmarterEveryDay on YouTube has a video about string trimmer line. It's quite interesting.
  7. Just to be clear, you are talking about an XJ Wagoneer, not a full size correct? There is a difference between the XJ and MJ spring perches. Also XJs are spring over vs MJ spring under so unless you want 5+" of lift, you'll want the perches under the axle. No matter what you will have to move the perches on the axle. If you don't move them and force the springs onto the XJ perches, the suspension will be tweeked and bind real bad. You will reuse the MJ leaf spring so no need to adjust shackles. (Credit for the diagram goes to, I believe, HOrnbrod)
  8. My advise would be to find people parting out MJs and ask if they will cut them out for you. That's the easiest way I've found to get them.
  9. Welp I did a thing.. I did some research and it's flat under the seats and people actually take the 3rd row of seats out all the time to get quite a bit more space so I will likely be doing the same. Thanks for all the input everyone! If it wasn't for the Compass bringing me to the lot, I wouldn't have even looked at the Journey.
  10. That is interesting. I'm guessing when it broke it also popped out of the latch mechanism as well. Pushing or pulling that linkage should normally open it. I think your only choice would be somehow get the door panel off. Not gonna be the easiest task unfortunately.
  11. I too enjoy tinkering with electronics. Mostly in low voltage DC circuitry.
  12. Are you sure the clip broke entirely? I had the same issue in the past. I had to lock/unlock and wiggle the handle and eventually it opens again. Not entirely sure what caused it as it was intermittent and I didn't remove the door panel to investigate.
  13. So I went to a Chrysler dealer and test drove a 2015 Compass Altitude 4WD, 60k miles asking $12,500. It was a little tight for my knee on the center console side and my head was basically touching the grab handle on the ceiling but otherwise was okay. Definitely not the fastest vehicle, as is common knowledge. Cargo area is smaller than I hoped it would be. I did like the look of the burgundy with black badges and trim though. I also looked at a 2014 Dodge Journey Crossroad AWD, 86k miles asking $12,800 and is fully loaded, all options I didn't realize were even available in 2014. Full service record since new, new brakes and tires. Needless to say I was pretty impressed by it. The only downside is that the third row of seats is basically useless and they take up a lot of cargo space. Curious if they could come out to add usable space. We started working out a deal on it tonight but will continue tomorrow as it was after bank hours. Very much unintended but we may end up with a Dodge Grand Caravan and a Dodge Journey, both in black with black leather interior.
  14. I never really thought to look at a Lexus, don't really ever see them and I always assumed they were expensive. Hows the reliability and repair costs been for you? Yeah I'm not necessarily looking for crazy high mpg, 20 is fine with me. Was surprised to see that the 4wd Compass claims to get up to 30mpg highway. And yeah I'm staying away from turbos, I've seen a few vehicles with them but with approaching 150k miles, I'm not dealing with that. Subaru is definitely on the list. My mom has had 2 Outbacks, sister bought her first one from her. I do like them, haven't seen many for sale in my price range yet.
  15. Commuter. Has to be kid friendly tho hence the back seat. As well as have some room to haul stuff. I found a few more trucks tonight that I am going to look at tomorrow. Hopefully they aren't too bad.
  16. Minivan is out as we already have a newer Grand Caravan, it's a great vehicle but we don't need two. I do like the Journey but is very close to the minivan still so its a candidate but kind of low on the list. I have read that the Compass is underpowered and for some reason it is ranked as the least reliable in its class by JD power? I find that hard to believe for some reason. Good to know about the cross members! I also have trouble in smaller vehicles, so that's a huge factor as well since I'm a bigger guy.
  17. Dzimm

    Most comanches

    Two here as well.
  18. Surprisingly enough, I have yet to come across a Tundra. The sales people I talked to all said used trucks are pretty hard to find right now, especially in my price range. Some dealers have less than half the usual amount of cars on the lot right now.
  19. So I'm looking to take the 25-30 year old Jeeps out of daily driver status and am struggling to find something. Budget $10k-$15k absolute max. 4x4/AWD and the bigger the better. The better the MPG the better for me as I have a decent length commute. I wanted a truck but I looked at many Silverados, F150s, Rams and the ones that are in my price range around here are high mileage rust buckets. Not much for Tahoe's either and I'm not looking to travel all that far. I also looked at some Dodge charger police cars as I like them quite a lot but insurance is twice as much on those as anything else I've checked. Currently I'm looking at some 2015-2016 Jeep Compass' and they seem like decent vehicles. Do any of you have a Compass? Any other suggestions?
  20. That's freakin crazy. Let this be a lesson to always carry a fire extinguisher!! You never know what could end up on fire. Last Monday I went to test drive a truck, followed an old crown Vic into town decked out as a wide load pilot vehicle, he obviously was on a break of some kind as he was alone. After my test drive I left the dealership and noticed billowing black smoke a half block away. Sure enough in the Theisens parking lot was that crown Vic and the entire front half was engulfed in flames. The unlucky guy was likely quite a ways from home as well. I only got a crappy Snapchat video driving by so no real good pictures. Cops were showing up so I just stayed out of the way.
  21. Sweet! Now don't ever put it in a VCR again. If your luck is anything like mine, it would absolutely eat the tape.
  22. How do people even come up with this stuff?
  23. are you asking about LS swapping a 67 Fury? I'm confused how this relates to a Jeep Comanche, do you have one?
  24. Welcome to the club!! 4wd swap is not really hard, just time consuming. First off The trans tailhousing is different so you can't use the 2wd trans with the transfer case. You'll have to go to the aw4 which you can either use as an automatic or set it up with some relays and make it manually shifted 4 speed. If you decide to ditch that 2wd transmission, post it for sale on here (classifieds will open after 10 posts), assuming it's the AX-15 (as it should be for your year), it should sell easy. I'd actually be interested in it depending on price, I'm only a couple hours from you in Iowa. As for the axles, the front will bolt right up, the rear you will need to move the perches. Post a picture of your MJ rear axle so we can identify it but I'm going to assume it is a Dana 35 as they are most common. You will need to move the spring perches to the underside of the rear axle to mount in the MJ but it's fairly easy and that XJ axle is a C8.25 which is much stronger than a Dana 35. Whatever you do, make sure your front and rear gear ratios match! If they don't you will have major problems. The front driveshaft will bolt up fine if you use the transmission, transfer case, and cross member from the XJ. The rear shaft will need modified or replaced no matter what you do as the XJ is much shorter. As for the gas tank, you appear to have a short wheel base truck based on your picture, you will need an 18 gallon tank which can be found on rock auto, Amazon, eBay, ECT. Get a set of fuel tank straps as well as they will likely be rusted. Not too expensive and could save you from a major fire. For your hard shifting, I'd first replace the trans oil and see what it does. Make sure you use proper fluid as the brass synchros in an AX-15 will be eaten up if the wrong oil is used. I personally use redline MT-90 in mine, curred some of my trans issues when I replaced it. Be sure to start a build thread for your truck and add it to the registry!
  25. Haha yes. The zuki grill was no more, it rolled through a cornfield at 65mph.. I needed lights and just used what I had! There's a thread in the "other projects" threads on the zuki.
