  1. Get a factory stat 52028186. Keep in mind that we now have "winter blend" fuels and that can affect MPGs.
  2. I've only done the C101 elimination on auto trans rigs. Maybe that's it. I don't feel like reading wiring diagrams right now. LOL.
  3. Correct. MORE reliable with the tips done.
  4. Alot more work to convert the injection system to 95. Renix is easy and there's a ton of support here.
  5. Cruiser’s HO into Renix Swap This swap is easier than some will lead you to believe, generally those who have never done it. Those of us who have done it, like myself, will share with you the things that need to be done for a successful swap. Just think of it as swapping in a long block. The HO and Renix have some differences but none that can’t be overcome very easily. Any HO engine from an XJ or ZJ through 1999 can be used. One running change was that the rear of the head was no longer drilled and tapped for the temperature gauge sender beginning in the 96 model year. The sender can be relocated to the threaded hole in the thermostat housing taken from the HO engine. You’ll have to extend the wire to that location. Some brave souls even drill and tap the HO head for the sender. You will be using the intake and exhaust manifolds from your Renix, along with all your sensors and wiring. Since the intake ports of the HO are slightly different, you use the Renix gasket. Exhaust ports are identical. You will need to use your Renix distributor as it is different than the HO because they use different fuel management systems. The flywheel or flexplate from the Renix must be used so your CPS gets the correct signals. The valve cover from the Renix allows you to keep your CCV system intact and requires no modifications. The HO block will have a plug in the coolant galley on the driver’s side of the block, closest to the front, which needs to be removed so your Coolant Temp Sensor can be installed in it’s place just as it is on the Renix. It requires a 5/16” square drive or a modified 3/8” drive that has been ground down to fit. Do this before installing the engine. As for the knock sensor, which is located just above the oil pan on the driver’s side of the engine about mid way, all the blocks I’ve seen are threaded for it. If not, I’ve heard they may be drilled but not tapped. Tap the hole if that’s the case. Revised 03/28/13
  6. Yes it is an 88, sorry I didn't mention that. I found your post and bookmarked it, I will try that tonight. SUPER important to do all 5 of them. Won't take but an hour and half maybe.
  7. 88? Click on the link in my signature and do posts 1 through 5.
  8. Check out Post #27 in the link below. Eliminate that troublesome C101!!!
  9. Obvious. The flexplate only fits on in one position as the bolt holes have one that is "misaligned". Only goes on one way.
  10. Extremely rare. Is the braided strap there that goes from the firewall to the back of the head? Before wasting any more money on parts, I would do a coupla things. Posts 1 through 3 in the link in my signature. The CPS signal may not be getting to the ECM through the C101 connector......
  11. Tighten the BRACKET. LOL.
  12. Red with gray interior. Overhead console. Power locks and windows. Tow hooks. Rear seat shoulder harnesses.
  13. Don't know yet. I was pretty much at his place to pick up a 90 XJ Laredo with a 5 speed for a parts Jeep. Snapped a few photos and drove the 90 home.
  14. He wants to sell it but I'm not in the market for one now. Unless it was a shortbed.....
  15. I've already got a 90 Pioneer pretty well decked out. after talking with John today, he's ready to sell the MJ. He's used to 750 HP BMWs and the like.
  16. I'll get photos and send them to Hornbrod to post up for us.
  17. What color are those wires? Do the sensor ground test again.
  18. I think about 150K. I'll find out more tomorrow.
  19. I can get some when I go to his house tomorrow to pick up my 90 XJ parts Jeep.
  20. Have you ever clicked on the link in my signature and checked out posts 1 through 5?
  21. Got to see it on it's maiden voyage the other day. He replaced the fuel tank and pump, exhaust manifold and a bunch of stuff. He's working on doing the Renix Tips right now. He's still debating as to whether he wants to keep it. We're gonna hook up my DRB to it sometime soon and view the sensor activity.

    The Lost Mj

Years ago, 1987 to be exact, I ordered myself a new MJ for a demo. I got to do that a few times a year. Had 12 in all. One in particular was an 87 4.0, auto trans, 4wd, 2 tome longbed. Maroon and silver. It arrived at the dealership while I was on vacation and they sold it!! Old guy and his wife had it. Then, it disappeared and they passed away. Fast forward to 2014 and a guy who has a towing business, and used to work for me, called and told me about a real nice MJ that he towed for another friend of mine. Had been in a warehouse. I contacted the guy who bought it and he said it was funny because it was maroon and silver and had paperwork in the glovebox with the original owner's name and one of my business cards.
  23. I just bought another XJ......for parts.
