  3. The oil pressure gauge will peg if there is an open in the circuit, or the wrong sending unit, the switch for the idiot light instead of the sensor for the gauge. Take the wire going to the sender and ground it. The gauge should go to zero. The individual gauges can be swapped between panels, letting you use the '86 panel and replacing the gauges with later year ones.

  5. With a Jeep, the first thing you always want to check is the grounds. Next check all connectors in the circuit. Then check the wiring, looking for frayed insulation and or a break. If that doesn't get it, run a new wire.Often times I have just run another wire from the neg bat post direct to the load. Maybe overkill but it works.

  7. $20 is the going rate for a cluster at the P&P here. It would have to be gold plated B4 I pay $116 for one.
  8. When you pull the head, if you haven't already, try to be careful and not tear up the head gasket. After getting the head off check the gasket for signs of it leaking. If the gasket was leaking, hopefully the block and head well be OK. If the gasket was good then you have either a cracked block or head. It is possible when the cylinders was bored they punched thru on No two. Only a visible inspection will show this. If it is a small enough crack, it will be invisible to the naked eye, making it necessary to magna flux the block and head. I once had a block I suspected was cracked but I could find no trace of one. Magna flux was un availble to me at the time. I closed of the top of the block with a piece of plexi glass and with the block in the horse water trough applied air pressure to the block. The air bubbles showed exactly where the crack was. Good luck guy. Hope you get it going.

  10. Been talking to Ron about this. He's the owner and head wrench turner there. They completely rebuild the engine before installing it. They don't make a kit for sale to the public, although he didn't rule out the possibilt of making me one up. So far everything is done in their shop. He has sold a couple motor mounts to a few customers but that's it. Been looking for an excuse to visit some friends in that area. This may be it.
  11. Don't laugh. Grandad made a drive shaft for his '20's something International. using a Walnut 4X4. It was back during the war when parts were hard to come by and for a Missouri dirt farmer a dollar was even harder.
  12. No. The 4wd will be much shorter. There's a transfer case between the the back end of the tranny and the rear axle.

  16. I just completed this swap. 1990 MJ, 4.0. I used a '88 panel from a XJ. Replaced the oil and temp sender units. Works great. Tach right on. Any thing from a '87 thru '90 will work. Also swapped the speedo to keep the mileage straight.

  20. I'd say that's your clutch cylinder leaking. If you haven't already, get ready to replace the fuse panel. To late for sealant. Replace the cylinder. Haven't you been filling the cylinder often?
  21. Another option would be to replace the stock springs and shocks with stiffer units.

  23. Cars got along OK without sway bars (anti roll bars) until the mid fifties sometime. The front suspension was much stiffer on the cars then. Primary purpose of the sway bar is to keep the car level when going around corners, Not have the outside of the car dropping more than the inside. Suggestion. Remove it without damaging anything and drive it awhile. If you don't like, put it back on.

  25. Dawggone Don. Your memory is sure better than mine. Forgot all about it until I clicked on the link you provided. So that brings up another question. Did Yellaheep ever get it fixed and running? Or would he be willing to swap straight across for a MJ?
