Upgrading the cluster question
jimoshel replied to btm24's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I said that? Must have been 'nipping'. Always wondered why out of the whole platoon I was the only one Sgt Perez made carry a rock in my left hand. :rotfl2: -
Try holding the output shaft while turning the input shaft. If the output doesn't turn then it is in neutral. If it does turn then it's in gear. Remove the shifter. Take a screw driver and see if you can move any of the shift rails. Their are 3 shift rails. In neutral the notch in all 3 will be even, lined up. In gear. 2 of the notches will be aligned and one will be in front of, or behind them. Try to move the one out of alignment until it's even with the other 2. If you can't move it. the tranny is stuck. While it's off, see if you can move the shifter.

Just changed the oil and oil filters on 4 MJ'S and two XJ'S, That's 6, 5 qt plastic bottles of Valvolene 10-30 synthetic, and 6 filters. They had been running on straight 10-30. A couple weeks ago I poured a can of sea foam in each of their crankcases. Hopefully it flushed them out pretty good and they will be good for many a more miles, :wrench:

I have several dogs that are gone now. I miss those dogs more than I do a lot of people I knew that are gone now.

Just because they were aliens didn't mean they didn't eat breakfast.

mechaincal coolant gauge
jimoshel replied to nitroxsteve's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
They do have different size sensors. Check the Stewart-Warner catalog, or get a helpful autp parts clerk to look in his books. -
WD 40 is better than nothing but it's not the best for penetrating rust, Liquid Wrench and some other brands are better. After soaking if it still won't come off try heat. Keep it on the nut and not the bolt. If that don't work hammer and chisel. Cut the nut off the bolt. If I remember right the bolt has a serrated head. However any bolt, of equlalent strength can be used. No welding, No perches. Be sure and clamp the leafs together, vice or C clamp

140-Miles from home . . . HELP !
jimoshel replied to AMC-MJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
So,,,What was wrong with it? :thwak: -
Fortunately being in the Air Farce I never had that problem. If the fleet was in we just stayed on base. Fleet was out, look out. So what did you think of Barcelona? as compared Athens? :brows:

Had a GF once tell me "There isn't a thing wrong with sloppy seconds because it just shows some one had a good time" I suppose that would also apply to seconds an thirds. Any one besides me notice the deteriation in the intelligence ( moral standards) level of the conversations around here lately?
-
I was abducted by aliens once. They were trying to improve their intellectual level and after searching the universe they selected me. After a year and I had bred all their women they tried to send me back. The women revolted and raised such a ruckus they decided to keep me. I was only able to escape and return to Earth by building a rocket ship out of a Quacker oats carton and duct tape. :D :rotfl2:

I'm not sending out no false goods to my friends so I'm still checking to make sure they're real. As soon as I'm finished........... :D

Boy are you lucky. I got both of them into UPS before it was too late. Unfortunately lightening hit the pavement right in front of the driver as he was pulling out from the dock, blinding him so he didn't see the 747 making an emergency landing in the parking lot and got creamed. Sorry.

Renix vs HO sending unit detail
jimoshel replied to Gjeep's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Just looked at 3 renix sending units. There is no part no on them. Just the caramel colored plastic housing. -
Computer got knocked out by the lightening storm the other night and I seem to have lost everything. If anybody has ordered anything from me or has any unfinished correspondance, business drop me a note. Include details. Sorry, Jim :hmm:

Engine Compartment Overhaul, Long 1 sorry
jimoshel replied to 88AMComanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Find out what and why those parts are there. Once you understand that you can change, modify them all you want. Just make sure you're going to improve engine performance. Not hurt it. Factory manual is a good start. -
1989XJ, complete, good shape. $45 shipped.
-
The '88 uses a flexible cable to connect the output of the tran to the speedo. The '94 uses an electronic system. Remove the sending unit from the tran. Replace it with one from a '84-89.

140-Miles from home . . . HELP !
jimoshel replied to AMC-MJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Didn't know you were that close to a parts store. Thought you were stranded in the middle of nowhere. -
Compared to regular steel it is, but you get what you pay for. Personally, if I were fabbing up a roll bar, or any structural add on I would pay the extra. My experience in repairing and scratch building air frames probably influences my opinion. As for the plates, I have absolutely no idea.
