I remember ol' Franks car. That was a pretty slick setup back in the day. -

Close. 3D filament is cheap. https://www.amazon.com/Gizmo-Dorks-Filament-Printers-Natural/dp/B074W3LLJ8/ref=sr_1_5?dchild=1&keywords=nylon+filament&qid=1605656103&sr=8-5 -
Carbed 87 Comanche RENIX 4.0

3D printers can handle a lot of different materials now. Nylon would probably be my 1st choice, good gas and heat resistance. In fact, my cruise control cable end (the one that attaches to the throttle body and always breaks) is 3D printed nylon. Has held up great for the past 8 months so far. -
My school put together a map by county of how likely you are to get COVID-19. It's updated often, like the weather map and you can see your chances of comin in contact with someone who has it based on the size of the even you're going to. Pretty cool. https://covid19risk.biosci.gatech.edu/

MJ Winch Bumper Lineup
Tex06 replied to DirtBound's topic in Vendors- members making products for MJs
Ever make this modification Krusty? -
I'm currently considering a BadDadFab BTSB winch mount Winch: Yes Prefabricated BadDadFab https://www.facebook.com/Baddadfab/ Looks pretty cool and allows a winch mounted without changing the length of the truck. The newest addition is D-rings that stick thru the bumper and tie back to the unibody giving you a nice anchor point. $400 plus shipping seems pretty reasonable too.

I know this is kind of a dead horse but most of the front bumper pics here are from over 10 years ago at this point with a lot of missing pictures, broken links, or discontinued items. I'd like this thread to be a quick reference for those of us looking to modify our front end. Bumper Picture(s) Winch (Y/N) Homemade/Kit/Prefabricated Manufacturer Link (if applicable) What you like/dislike or would change if you could do it over again, price, and any general comments.

Fog in/on gauge cluster?
Tex06 replied to Wounded_Fighter's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Any smell of smoke? -
Glad to hear you've adjusted well. I go to the gym for lunch 3-4x a week. Then eat whatever I brought while working at my desk (ADHD, much? lol). The gym breaks up my day and helps me be more productive in the afternoons I find. Working from home is nice, I get 1x a week to do it, schedule permitting. I've managed to get my motorcycle maintenance done and fixed the driveshaft on my MJ with my WFH days....it's very nice.

I'm afraid you nailed this one on the head.

You know, I would take that. I'm not quite ready to do the upgrade and if I pull my dash for my AC I'd love to get a working tripmeter. Then I can see if I can repair mine. I've also got some electrical gremlins behind the dash, intermittent wipers that work intermittently (loose connection somewhere, I've swapped the module with 2 others from the JY and same results), AC control lights don't light up, flickering dash lights behind my speedo (but not the tach, yet another loose connection). Oh and my blower door/blend door seems to be jammed, I always have air coming thru the defrost vents no matter where I set it and it's weak coming from the floor and upper vents.

I'm gonna have to ask you to sit in the corner, sir.....

Updated interior with digital gauges, a working tripmeter since apparently the HO tripmeters can't be repaired, working A/C, updated looks, power windows and locks, bigger windows.....I can go on Oh, and I just think the facelift looks better overall too.

It's been a year....how's the transition going? I went from Field Service to design engineer, living on my tools and on the road to an 8-5 in front of a computer. You can tell because I post to here a lot more
-
Oh yeah, it's always cheaper to do it yourself but time is my biggest constraint right now. I can source a decent '99-'01 XJ for about $3500-4000 locally, if that can be beat then we'll talk. Planning on keeping the current trans/xfer case....as far as painting I'd prefer it to be painted while it's apart but if they've done an MJ swap before and have a shop they previously used with good results I'm open to that. As far as I know, there's nothing more than light surface rust on the Jeep, however I would go over it prior to handing it over and repair/record anything I come across. It's been a while since I pulled my carpet up and checked my floorboards. I don't mind the drive...I can pack my motorcycle and ride it back Dog, human or both?

Front Axle Repair - Rusty rusty U joints
Tex06 replied to McDougal's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Do you have access to a newer axle with the proper gearset in it? If so, I'd swap it as the CAD axle you have is a known weak spot. -

Just spitballing at the moment, but I would like to do a 97+ (Ideally 99+) swap on my '92 longbed. Issue is, I don't have time for it and most of my tools, my shop, my lift, air compressor, etc etc is in Georgia in storage while the MJ and I are in Louisiana. I figured with winter coming up, I'd throw this out there to someone who's done it before: Would you do the swap for someone else and what would you charge? I'm looking for the dash, seats, motor, keep the original doors (probably swap the windows but keep the shells), and front clip then paint. Shoot me a PM, there's been a few swapped MJs up for sale recently and although I'd like them, I am partial to mine. Shoot me a PM and let me know if you're interested.

I've got a member of another Comanche group (I know, *gasp*) who called first dibs. If he falls through, I'll bring it up with me.
-
I've got the tailgate portion of one. I know that's no help 😂
-
You have an ad up yet? I've been looking at airstream basecamps (the older ones) as I want something I can haul my motorcycle with. With your trailer, I could take off my camper top and put the bike in the back of the truck....

Didn't realize you had so many!

Headlight harness relay upgrade... with DRLs?
Tex06 replied to gogmorgo's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Shouldn't be an issue. That's just the voltage that it will absolutely unlatch, no matter what over an entire factory run of these things (probably several 10s of thousands at a time). It's most likely much higher than that, probably just below the "latch in" voltage (IIRC they're usually about .5-1VDC difference in real world application). Worst case, add in a small resistor just before the relay. It'll drop the voltage the relay "sees" effectively raising the unlatch voltage. Bonus, it would also raise the latch-in voltage closer to 12VDC. -
Headlight harness relay upgrade... with DRLs?
Tex06 replied to gogmorgo's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I'm gonna be the first to veto this idea. Arduinos are very cool, very powerful little devices but one thing they are not is reliable. I've had to go back and "undo" several things where some enterprising individual scabbed in an arduino in a place where a proper PLC should have been and then they can't figure out why things go to dookie-doo when it crashes and has to be restarted. They are one of my #1 headaches when improperly used. (but if you want to try it, don't let me stop ya!)
