Do a full tune up! Plugs, wires, cap, rotor, air filter, oil filter, fuel filter. Costs under $100 and your truck will be happier, even if it only needed one of those things to run.
The problem with the brakes was that they are on my MJ, so I'd have to buy all new braking components for the rat.
The outer axle shafts won't bounce around at all?
Eff. I'll probably pick up an actual 2wd straight axle for it. I just realized I pulled all the brakes off my old 4wd axle, and it's rear brakes that I don't want, not front. Can't do smokey burnouts with only rear brakes.
But I'm still curious for an answer.
Will the axleshafts stay in with no ring gear, pinon gear, and spider gears?
I'm looking to cut out the center section and use my old Dana 30 as a straight axle for a rat that I'm working with.
What's the motivation to go so tall?
I think the arms'll do great, but I don't think you'll need to inboard them after seeing Pete's. I'm sure he'll chime in on it, but I think he's the only one on here to change to a 44 and keep the Ford radius arms.
Yup. Should be good. Gas mileage won't be a noticable difference with a taller lift. It's mostly tires/gearing that will affect that.
Here's the Energy Suspension part numbers for their coil spacers available in black or red polyurethane:
1-3/4" Black -- 2.6102g
1-3/4" Red -- 2.6102r
3/4" Black -- 2.6103g
3/4" Red -- 2.6103r
Don't spend more than $40 on em.
According to http://www.streetbeatcustoms.com/ , the part number for 1"-2" lowering shackles is the same for the '88-'98 lowering shackles as the '99-'06 lowering shackles, so I would assume so.
