They're a great option! For some reason, they cost a pretty dime. but the flex is amazing from them, and the people that have used them say that they don't get hung up on things like everyone assumes. A panhard is a track bar, yup. And DD plus weekend (or midweek, or at night) wheeler is what my truck is. 3/4" does make a difference, but my rig rides like butta. Like butta. Like a big stick a butta.

rough country or rusty's?
feerocknok replied to jackel18's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I've heard from a couple people that those are the old style springs that had the problem with breaking. They've since starting having them made out of house and the quality has been brought way up on em. -
rough country or rusty's?

ok so i was wrong sorry  There are alot of people that don't like em, don't worry. I've only had one experience with them, and that was buying adjustable LCAs with jam nuts. They sent me the right part, it was a good price, and when I called to ask for an estimate on an adjustment to put them at, the guy on the line seemed very knowledgable and picked up after only two rings. -
Rusty has 4" spring packs and I think it's EPCO who makes metric ton springs that hornbrod tried, and they lifted him a couple inches. Chevy 63" springs from an '88-'98 pick-up would work if you built a new front spring hanger, but I'm not sure if they'd give any lift, however '88-'98 Chevy lift leaves with a new front hanger would work.

Yeah, holy crap.

Ah! I forgot that you need a new panhard and brake lines. Phew.

I'm at 4.75" and at full droop my adjustable LCAs hit they're mount. I'm getting away with it, but at 5.5" you'll be kinda limited on droop. You'll be able to drive it around town and wheel it lightly, but the lack of suspension travel'll get to you on the trails.

the AMC equivalent of the D44. Pretty ballsy axle. And drop out thirds are nice for gear swaps. They don't have drop out thirds. Yeah, don't know what I was thinking. Think I saw a 9" in my mind for some reason.

If I remember my numbers properly, an MJ shackle gives an XJ 3/4" of lift, so a 2" XJ lift shackle would give an MJ 1-1/4" of lift.

So welding it is!! that's not to hard of a thing to do anyways. I have done some welding myself and I also have 2 friends that could do it. one will be helping me with the swap anyways so it will more than likely be him. Shouldn't be a problem then! Everything else should be good, just get those perches moved. They also don't line up with the Cherokee perches. They need to be moved to the inside something like 3/4" on each side, so measure your old axle.

Voila!

Do we have a part number for these?

Oh, gotcha! Just saw the name at the bottom of the page and jumped. Thanks Pete!

Wha-oh! Rear axle? Cherokees have the leaf springs over the axle, Comanches have the leaf springs under the axle...

non mechanic looking for info

You need to find a Cherokee with the same engine and tranny for it to be bolt in. Then the front axle bolts straight up to the pre-existing control arms, front driveshaft'll fit right up, and the one real modification you'll have to do is to get your driveshaft cut to the proper length by a driveline shop. No one ever brings up transfercase linkage, so I don't know anything about that. If the condition of the truck is better than average, I'd say go to swapping it to 4wd, as it can be difficult to find a well conditioned Comanche. -
I've wondered about this as well, cause I'd like to have a seperate rack for my snowboards or to mount lights up front.
-
If it's a 2wd, it'll be a little easier to find an axle for as 3.55s should be acceptable as well, and you won't have to match your front end.

adjustable control arm lift heights
feerocknok replied to comancheman's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
My opinion is with uppers as well you could go 6"+, but there becomes a point where the amount of lift doesn't justify the performing characteristics of short arms, if that makes sense. I'm at ~5" with only my LCAs changed out, but I'd definitely prefer to have new uppers, and would not mind going to long arms if I go any higher. -
I saw the thread title and knew exactly who made it... I gotta say, I dig the stepside models. I'm a lil 'eh' on the short and long beds, but the stepsides score big.

New long block fuel injected 2.5 with 31s never breaks 80... Ever. I just spent the last 3.5 hours at the U-Pull with the wrong tools and improper clothing pulling the axle out of the wrong Jeep, and ended up with 3.55s instead of 4.56s. The correct Jeep was right behind the one I was working on. :wall: Tomorrow I will fix my mistake.
-
that doesn't give me a warm fuzzy.... How do i know what i'm gonna get??? :???: Pete, I'm curious if you mean lift from the trucks current height or lift from factory varying? I'm sure engine and bumpers are going to make things change.

I got the cheapy Skyjacker Hydros on my truck. They're perfect for the front of the truck, but too stiff for the rear. ~$30 a piece. If I did it again, I'd run the Skyjacker's in the front and Anything else in the rear.

Here's some antenna talk: http://www.comancheclub.com/forums/view ... ht=antenna Didn't come up when I searched for "CB", just "antenna".
