That gasket is very good. Even comes with new grommets for he screws in the valve cover. -
Valve cover bolt Torque specs needed....
Yesterday's Danish replied to mikeviera's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Haynes manual says 28 in-lbs if you're using RTV or 55 in-lbs if you're using a permanent gasket. Or do what I did and snug them up with a 1/4 inch ratchet. -
90 Comanche rear drum brakes (again)
Yesterday's Danish replied to pioneerpilot's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
For what its worth, my 2000 XJ also doesn't have the push rods visible. It has a 8.25 Chrysler in the rear. Just press the tab of the brake shoe into the wheel cylinder and call it good. -
were to find marker lenses
Yesterday's Danish replied to akamcbird's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Be careful getting these. I bought a pair like these for my XJ. They let water in and fried the socket and bulb. Went back to the OEM amber lenses and haven't looked back. -
We use Lincoln's and Miller's at school. Both are great machines. I'm sure the Hobart's are nice, too. CW is right, make sure you get a machine with enough power. I stick welded on 3/8 inch carbon steel without any problem on a 220V welder.

Running a Fram oil filter?
-
Laredos came with the cloth seats and I don't believe they came with seat warmers. Also, my brother's special edition WJ came with cloth seats. Swapping for leather seats would most likely be a bolt on affair. Not sure about the transfer cases or transmissions. I will say that my families experience with the 4 WJs we've owned have been overall very positive. No major problems. Really wish I had that 4.7 in my XJ.

88 MJ come with power steering?
Yesterday's Danish replied to drase's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
What has to be done to install AC? My Comanche doesn't have it either. -
My 2000 XJ Classic does not have power seats. Power seats were an option on all models (I believe) and standard on the Limiteds.

2.5 aluminum valve cover
Yesterday's Danish replied to pug's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Nope that sounds about right. I just replaced my CCV elbows and hoses after doing my valve cover gasket. Might as well change all the elbows, hoses and grommets out while you change the valve cover. Give the valve cover a fresh coat of paint (or 3) too. EDIT: Go this site www.madxj.com. Under the tech articles, there is one that deals with swapping over the old CCV system to the newer CCV system. You'll have to get a couple new hoses and elbows but it won't break the bank. The newer system is better at preventing blow by, apparently. -
I'll have to try that and see if it works. It's kinda cramped where the oil filter is. Thanks for the part number.
-
That's the regular sized Jeep filter. Is there a different part number?
-
Yeah fram filters are notorious for low oil pressure. At hot idle on my XJ, the oil pressure would dip down below 10psi with a fram. When I switched to Wix, the psi would be steady at 20 psi. Also, if you have a 4.0HO engine, you can run a bigger filter. It spins right on without any problems. The Wix part number is 51515, or just look for the same oil filter as a 5.0 mustang. A bigger filter means cleaner oil.

Here's a site that lists all the differences between oil filters. Good read. http://people.msoe.edu/~yoderw/oilfilte ... study.html Oh yeah and frams are junk. Only Wix for me.

This happened to my dad. He bought an 2007 grand cherokee that was a leftover in 2008. He put down a deposit and the dealership ended up selling it on him. He just went down there and raised holy hell with the dealership. They ended up giving him a 2008 instead for the same price of 2007. So he made out on that deal. I believe you could sue them. The contract you sign is legally binding so if you put down a deposit they HAVE to sell you the vehicle. But I agree with everyone else, something isn't right about that whole situation.

I had the same problem on my MJ. Not to the extent that your friend has but it was somewhat annoying. The PO put in a new radio and quite honestly, had no idea how he got it to work. He had wires running from the fuse box up to the radio, he hacked the crap out of the harness and tried splicing in wires for god knows what. He had aftermarket fog lights on the bumper and had wires running into the cab that went to a switch that he drilled into the lower dash. None of that worked because there was no power coming to the switch. He also tried putting in a third brake light. Good idea, but all he did was run one single wire to the brake switch. It looked like he tried putting in a bed light too by drilling a hole in the back of the cab, but again, wires went to nowhere. He tried putting in new interior lights, too. He put in the most gaudy piece of crap for a light that I have ever seen. This, like the rest of his awesome wiring, didn't work. He actually tried running a ground wire to the inside of the cab vents. :huh???: Last time I checked grounding to plastic doesn't work. It looked like the guy just did a bunch of half-assed projects and never finished any of them. He had absolutely no clue what the heck he was doing. The topping on this sundae is the fact that when he spliced wires together he used masking tape. He's lucky the truck didn't burn down.

Time for exhaust...
Yesterday's Danish replied to xmeatbagx's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I have a dynomax cat back with a high flow magnaflow cat on my XJ. Sounds a little bit louder than stock when you get on the skinny pedal. There isn't any highway drone. You can get the dynomax cat back on the cheap. $75 rebate. http://www.jegs.com/i/Dynomax/289/17463/10002/-1 -
97+ tachometer works after changing plugs.

My valve cover was pretty rusty and dinged up. So I decided to take an extra day and give it a few coats of paint. Hopefully after Easter I can put this all back together. Looks pretty good in the engine. I don't see any sludge.
