  1. You could always make one out of a 55 gallon drum. http://www.instructables.com/id/How-to- ... BQ-Barrel/ We were actually thinking of doing this at work.
  2. That's what I felt like I had with the stock headlights in my XJ. Silverstars are much better.
  3. Here is a pretty comprehensive write up on swapping gauge clusters and odometers. http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=921205
  4. Just found that thread when I searched for the hood seal. I guess I'll see if I can find a stock gasket for the bulkhead connector that's in good shape. Otherwise it's back to making a mess and praying that RTV will seal up the hole.
  5. I tried putting silicone in the hood seal and it still leaks pretty bad. I'm guessing I need a new one. I checked my 2000 XJ and it looks to be a different material. Anyone have any experience with replacing this?
  6. So I ran water over the hood while it was closed. When I opened the hood I saw that the back of the engine, the bulkhead connector and the passenger side (I think the blower motor is over there) were covered in water. This isn't normal right? Seems like the rear seal on the hood isn't doing much to keep water out. As far as the baby powder trick, where did you put it, Pete? On the firewall?
  7. Yeah I checked the hood release cable and I don't feel any wetness there. It's all coming from the fuse box/bulkhead connector. I'll put silicone on the hood seal and see if that helps. Thanks, Pete.
  8. Any other ideas out there? The hood seal looks good so I don't think it's that. This leak is making my lose my mind.
  9. How did you fix it? Maybe I am getting too much water under the hood and that's why it's leaking. I've checked the hood cowl and cleaned that out. Silicone should work but perhaps I'm not applying enough (or I'm applying to the wrong areas) to plug up the hole in the firewall.
  10. I'm attempting to plug up a leak between the bulkhead connector and the fuse box. When it rains heavily I get water inside the cab. I've tried silicone and tried making my own gasket and neither have worked. The stock gasket rotted off due to a leaky clutch master cylinder, which has been fixed. I must be missing something. Any tips?
  11. I haven't notice one on the 97+. I think maybe it is wired in with the defrost switch for the rear window. :dunno: The XJ I pulled the mirrors from did not have the heated option so maybe someone that has one will chime in. The heated mirrors are wired with the rear defrost switch on 97+ XJs.
  12. Yeah, you are missing a wiring diagram. The two wires do not complete a circuit. The lights are always "hot," and the door post switch completes the circuit to ground when the door opens. I don't remember why, but the driver's side door has a second wire for an additional circuit -- maybe a warning chime? Dunno -- try touching each wire to a bare spot on the door post -- like the edge of the hole for the switch. Most likely you just need a new switch. Yep you are right. I touched one of the wires to the edge of the hole for the switch and the lights came on. Thanks again!
  13. I just bought an 89 comanche and it has this problem. I just replaced the crappy factory lights. The lights work from the passenger door. I pulled out the door jamb switch and disconnected the wires and connected them together and still no dice. So it can't be the switch then right? Am I missing something? Thanks.
